Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's period epic Begum Jaan, which stars Vidya Balan, will also see Naseeruddin Shah in a special appearance. Confirming the news, Mukesh Bhatt said, “Naseer will make a special appearance but his character is pivotal to the plot. He has worked with us in Naajayaz (1995) and Sir (1993) in the past. We've always shared a special bond with him but we didn't come across a story worthy enough to approach him before for an actor of his calibre.“

The film is a Hindi adaptation of Srijit Mukherjee's Bengali classic, which is set against the backdrop of partition. Srijit will direct the Hindi version too.
