It is that time of the year when after all the popular
awards have gone to the same set of actors and technicians over and
over again, the Golden Kela awards comes along to award the worst
cinematic achievements of the year. Shah Rukh Khan bagged the award for
the Worst Film (Dilwale). And from what one gets to hear from sources,
Shah Rukh is game to personally receive the award, if asked
Says a friend of the actor, “Shah Rukh has never shied away from laughing at himself. Even during the promotion of Dilwale he did spoofs and stand-ups on his own film.” It is generally believed that when it comes to themselves, Bollywood-wallahs have no sense of humour. A fact corroborated by Jatin Varma, founder and organiser of the Golden Kela awards, who informs that in its eight years of existence the only Golden Kela award winner sporting enough to accept is Sonam Kapoor. If Shah Rukh Khan actually came forward to receive his award, it would set a new precedent in self-deprecatory awards in Bollywood where each year hordes of awards functions humour and flatter the stars with redundant and ridiculous awards.
When told that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has won the ‘Manoj Kumar’ award for ‘historical accuracy’ in Bajirao Mastani, the director who has been collecting awards galore this year for the same film, laughed heartily and commented, “These are reality-check awards for us. We should not take them to heart. In Hollywood big stars and directors attend the Raspberry awards (the awards to honour the worst achievers) in the same season as the Oscar awards. Why can’t we do the same?”
Meanwhile...Shimit and SRK to come together after nine years?
