Makes an impromptu call to record unplugged version of a rock ballad with Ankit Tiwari and Shreya Ghoshal

The actor has flexed his vocal muscles only once before — for Welcome Back. “But that track had him sound autotuned. In any case, it was in the vein of Ghulam’s Kya Bolti Tu, which is like a spoken word/rap track,” insists our source.

It is learnt that the track was recorded after the soundtrack for RH was finalised. Says the source, “The film’s OST has already been launched. Ankit sang the original version of Alfazon Ki Tarah, but the Unplugged version features Shreya Ghoshal and John as well. The three recorded for the song in Mumbai recently.”

Adds the source, “It was John’s idea to put out his version. It was an impromptu decision. John and Ankit met only an hour before the recording and after a few short rehearsals, went for it. JA got done quickly, in a few hours.”

Concludes the source, “The makers and John still haven’t finalised how they plan to shoot/cut the music video for the Unplugged track.”
