Too much, too soon? It just might be the case with
several Bolywood stars playing turbaned Sikhs and a few more coming up
(including Tiger Shroff in The Flying Jatt). And that’s the reason why
Shahid Kapoor won’t be playing a Sardar in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon.
Sources close to the project say that was the original plan. “Shahid has never played a Sikh before. Also, he felt he’d look dapper in a turban. But in recent memory, several A-List stars have already sported turbans in films, so Vishal dropped the idea of casting Shahid as a Sardar.”
And so, the actor’s role was altered. It is learned that he now plays a Muslim character, as it was important to cast him in a culture-specific part. The film, according to a source in the know, is a love triangle among three people from three different backgrounds.
