Will they, won’t they? There was a lot of nail-biting
suspense over the fate of the new subversive superhero global
blockbuster Deadpool, what with its content being panned and banned in
several parts of the world including China where the film has been
stopped.
Showing its newly-discovered liberal stance on Hollywood releases, the Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed Deadpool for an Indian release with seven cuts.
Says censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani, “We have made very general cuts. If you look at what has happened to Deadpool in China, it was apparently banned because any number of cuts was seen to hamper the storyline of the film. I can assure you the cuts we’ve requested in no way affect the storytelling.”
The film has been granted an ‘Adults’ certification with cuts. Says the censor chief, “We are very clear that films made for adult viewing won’t be cut if they do not contravene censorial guidelines.”
