Aditya Narayan is not being approached by a single composer despite two massive hits in 2013. He also brings up his upcoming album and how he’s spending all his earnings on realising his dream

Missing something?
It’s quite an honest admission, and in that instant, one realises that here’s a guy who doesn’t mince his words, even if it means admitting his own shortcomings. “After the songs became such huge hits, I went to a number of composers and told them I’d like to work with them, but maybe I’m missing some step in between,” he adds with a laugh.

Hard at work
While his playback career might not be much to write home about, on the singing front, Aditya’s never been short of work. He’s been hosting Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs, hosting shows and performing live for audiences across the country and abroad. And with his latest project, the singer hopes to bring about a revival in the pop music scene in the country. He’s almost finished with the work on his album, Mohobbat, and will soon release the third single from his album, titled Zindagi.

‘My showreel’
Prod him further about this venture and he says, “It has always been my dream to produce my own album and now I’m doing that. After Ram-Leela, I asked myself, ‘What now?’ and I realised that this is what I wanted to do. People have called me to sing for them with their perspective of what I’m capable of. But I want to now show them what I am capable of. In a way, this is my showreel.”

All his women
Along with his band, The A Team, Aditya has worked on the eight original songs, three of which he has written and composed himself. “It’s a concept album, where each song is a stage of love in my life. It’s a personal album, and I’ve written songs on women I have been with in the past. A la Taylor Swift? I ask and he laughs, “No, I haven’t bitched about my exes. Nobody broke my heart and I didn’t break anyone’s either.”

Realising my dreams
This album is clearly very close to Aditya’s heart and he reveals that it might be one of the most expensive albums produced in the country. “I have spent every penny I have earned since Ram-Leela on producing this album. For me, money is just the means to realise my dreams. By God’s grace, for my age, I’m earning a lot of money. While people struggle to make ends meet, I struggle to spend my money,” he guffaws.

Giving back
On a serious note, Aditya says that maybe this is God’s way of telling him what he needs to do with all that moolah. “I might be doing a lot of commercial work, but what is my contribution to the world as a creative soul? My prediction is that pop music will be huge in another three years, and by then I’ll be way ahead of others. I’m just looking at the future,” he smiles.
