Shoojit Sircar is ready to
roll with a new film early next year and no, it's not a sequel to Piku. It's a social thriller and he is not directing it. “I'm working on a couple of ideas with my Madras Cafe team, with Juhi
Chaturvedi and also on my own. I'm not working in a factory that I am
under pressure to start a film immediately,“ he laughs, adding that this
will mark the Bollywood debut of Bengali director Aniruddha Roy
Chowdhury who had made Aparajita Tumi (Undefeated) in 2012 for him and
his partner Ronnie Lahiri.
In fact, Aniruddha admitted that in 2011, when they were on their way to the US for a recce for Aparajita Tumi, he had sketched out the idea to Shoojit in the plane. “He loved it and decided then itself that it should be made in Hindi. For the last two-and-a-half years we have been working on the script and last month we approached Mr Bachchan (Amitabh) who liked it as much as Shoojit and agreed to come on board. For me it's a dream come true,“ exults Aniruddha whose 2006 debut feature, Anuranan (A Resonance) bagged the President's Award for Best Bengali Film followed by Antaheen (The Endless Wait) which bagged the Golden Lotus for Best Film along with three other National Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Lyrics and Best Playback Sing (Female).
Shoojit goes on to explain that they wanted to set the story in the right city at the right time and on his suggestion the as-yet-untitled film is now based in Delhi and inspired by some recent, real life incidents.“It talks about an important issue which Mr Bachchan feels for strongly and so immediately allotted his dates. We will start shooting in February-March. It will be completely shot in Delhi with music by Shantanu (Moitra),“ informs Shoojit.
