Shweta Basu Prasad has signed her first film since clearing her name in a controversy last year, where she was dragged into a flesh trade racket. The as-yet untitled film is a Marathi-Bengali bilingual directed by Amit Khanna.
The former child star, known for performances in films like Makdee and Iqbal, was to make her comeback to films in Kannada flick Devravne Budu Guru, but that didn’t happen. Sounding happy about landing the bilingual, she says, “It’s an exciting script and a performance-oriented role. I understand Marathi pretty well and have seen a lot of Marathi films. Amit and I have done a couple of photo-shoots together. He is a talented photographer and story teller.”
The bilingual film is a horror-thriller that will be shot in Nashik and Kolkata. After the controversy died its death, Shweta has been quietly working with Phantom Films in the creative department as well as completing her documentary called Roots, on Indian classical music.
Amit says, “It’s a psychological horror-thriller. Shweta plays the lead role – that of a painter. It’s a very challenging role spanning over more than a dozen years. The other cast members are known names from the Marathi and Bengali industry.”
