The Censor Board has clipped a sequence from the Hindi version of Drishyam, where a female character is slapped during interrogation by the cops.

The film, releasing July 31, is a remake of the Malyalam film of the same name. It was recently released in a Tamil avatar entitled Papanasam to critical acclaim. Interestingly, the same sequence was allowed in the Malayalam and Tamil versions of the film.

Says a source in the know, “The Censor Board, under the chairmanship of Pahlaj Nihalani, is very clear on the question of violence against women. Under no circumstance, are they willing to allow a woman to be shown being hit, abused or violated.”

Besides the above visual cut, some words in the dialogues were also asked to be deleted from the soundtrack.
