The 62-year-old actor took to the micro-blogging site Twitter, stating: “My only resentment is that Shammi Kapoor never got recognised by the government in his lifetime. Posthumously would be great.“
Rishi went on to seek advice from the fans of the late cinema icon, tweeting: “Then I think I am being too greedy! Is that what you all Shammi Kapoor fans and aficionados think? What songs what romance what macho (sic),“ he added.
Shashi Kapoor is the the third Dadasaheb Phalke awardee in the Kapoor family, the first was for Shashi Kapoor's father Prithviraj Kapoor and second his elder brother Raj Kapoor, Rishi's father. With his flamboyant personality and groovy dance moves, Shammi was often referred to as the Indian Elvis Presley. He died on August 14, 2011 of chronic renal failure.
