Her turn as a Kashmiri
Gertrude in Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider, a contemporary
retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet, won her plenty of awards. And
Tabu is set to return to the valley, this time as Fitoor's Begum. After
Rekha bowed out of the film (Mirror, May 27), where she was to portray a
desi Miss Havisham, the makers quickly turned to Tabu.
And merely a day after Rekha's tumultous exit, Tabu was onboard. And
director Abhishek Kapoor is happy with the replacement. “Tabu is a
powerhouse of talent, having made her mark as a strong performer in this
male dominated industry of ours. I am confident that she will bring a
whole new energy to her part in Fitoor, “said Kapoor.
And the director left no stone unturned to make sure that the actress joined the unit on the set immediately as Mirror spotted the actress leaving the set at Mehboob studios. “The crew will now film for Tabu and there is a pending marathon schedule of 40-days, which she will start on Friday,“ revealed a source from the sets.
Unaffected at being the second choice for the role, Tabu said, “I am very excited to be working with the same production house that backed my last successful project, Haider. The script of Fitoor is unique and after going through it a few times, I am beginning to now imbibe the feel of the character. I am going to develop Begum in my own way. I am very happy to be a part of the film.“
