Anurag Kashyap is an angry
man these days. Ranting on Twitter and screaming at scribes at press
events, the director is clearly feeling the heat, weeks before
his most ambitious film, Bombay Velvet, opens in cinemas on May
15. Right now, his wrath is directed at the Central Board of Film
Certification, whose members watched his period-drama last week and
quickly shot down the filmmaker's request for a `UA' certificate.
Said a source close to the development, “The Board asked for several cuts, including the deletion of certain cuss words like 'son of a bitch'. They also wanted some violent sequences toned down. And many members of the Examining Committee (EC) agreed that given its theme, the crime saga is more suited for adult viewing.“
However, with almost Rs 100 crore riding on the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer, an `A' certification can limit its reach, hit collections for a six and make recovery on the investment difficult. The filmmakers will challenge the Board's decision by taking the film to the Revising Committee.
Confirming this, Anurag told Mirror, “There is absolutely nothing in the film that warrants an 'A' certificate. We are going to Revising Committee.“ So, did he snap at the EC members? “No hungama happened, we just didn't agree with the cuts the Board asked for. I have more faith in the CBFC's Revising Committee. Let's see how it goes.“
