Shabana Azmi is currently shooting for a British BBC
film titled Capital where she plays a Pakistani woman. Besides Shabana,
it stars Toby Jones, Lesley Sharp, Wunmi Mosaku, Adeel Akhtar, Rachael
Stirling, Gemma Jones, Robert Emms, Bryan Dick and Radoslaw Kaim.
Set on a single street in South London, Capital is Peter Bowker’s adaptation of John Lanchester’s critically acclaimed bestseller of the same name, and is produced by Kudos for BBC One. Says Shabana, “I had no idea that Kudos is one of the biggest production houses in UK or that the star line-up was so spectacular! I don’t think any of them except producer Matt and director Euros Lynn know about me either!”
About her role, Shabana shares, “The Asian family is central to the plot. I play a feisty Pakistani mother whose son is locked up for alleged terrorist activities. She fights back, gets a human rights lawyer and is totally unafraid. She’s funny, domineering, but with a warm heart. It’s a nice part. I’m enjoying the work.”
