No rehearsals yet, but Shah Rukh Khan already claims to be the best man for his role in Rahul Dholakia’s Raees
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; April 8, 2015)
The last time Shah Rukh Khan did an unconventional
film was Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan. Five years on, he is trying out
something different again with Maneesh Sharma’s Fan and Rahul Dholakia’s
Raees.
But he insists that the two films are no different from his commercial outings. “I would not say that Raees and Fan are diametrically opposite to what I stand for. To me, these are films that I want to work in, but I just got the time only now,” he says.
Raees will feature SRK playing a Gujarati don and he shares his special connection to the film. “It’s a very earthy role, something that I have missed doing for so many years. Today, I have reached a stage in life where I would want to go in the morning on the sets and feel I have put my best foot forward. I was like this in the first seven-eight years of my career”.
The actor also sounds super confident about his film. “I have not even done a rehearsal for the film, but I can
assure you that no one can do the film like me. It sounds extremely pompous and arrogant, but I am being humble at the same time,” he laughs.
He concludes, “I am not surprised because Rahul came to me with this film. I am surprised that not many filmmakers dare to make such films anymore. I wonder why more such films don’t come to me. But then, I also understand that I can only work on one film. I work for 16-18 hours a day and I get less time to focus on multiple films at the same time.”
