WILL EMRAAN GET BACK IN THE BIG LEAGUE WITH MR X?

Emraan Hashmi, at one point, was one of the most bankable stars of Bollywood. But his attempts to do something unconventional didn’t really bear fruit. Many thought that once he gets back in the masala films zone, he’ll reconsolidate his position. But sadly, even so-called commercial films like Raja Natwarlal and Ungli flopped miserably. Now all eyes are on Mr X – it’s in a way make or break film for the actor.

Mr X is produced by Vishesh Films and directed by Vikram Bhatt. It’s a 3D film and deals with a protagonist who is invisible. However, it’s not like Mr India where the protagonist used to go invisible at will. Neither it is like Hollow Man where the lead character turns invisible after a lab test gone wrong. That’s what the makers have claimed and have assured that the film isn’t a copy or anything like the 2 films in question. Songs are melodious and have gradually caught on. Amyra Dastur, Emraan’s co-star, looks quite pretty and supposedly also has a pivotal role in the movie.

However, the excitement of the film is limited and the film can score only if the response is positive. Hence, a poor to average opening can be expected. Also, the entire Mr India-Hollow Man inspiration stories might prove detrimental. The film has to be genuinely unique and different. Otherwise, it will be definitely ridiculed by the netizens and as things are today, such things can go viral which might spell doom to the film.

Emraan is a great actor and here’s hoping Mr X works, especially for him!

The other 3 releases of the film are Margarita With A Straw, Marathi-Hindi-English film Court and Nanak Shah Fakir. The first 2 films have made a lot of noise at various film festivals. Hence, the buzz is very positive for these films despite the fact that the excitement is limited as both the films are sans stars and are not typical entertainers. Margarita With A Straw deals with cerebral palsy and has Kalki Koechlin play the leading role. It is directed by Shonali Bose and it promises to not be just another film on disabilities. The film has several intimate scenes and thankfully, all of them got passed from the revising committee of the Censor Board.

Court on the other hand comes at a great time as it just won a National Award. Again, it promises to be not just another courtroom drama. As evident from the promos, it attempts to present a real picture of courts function in India, without drama. However, those who have seen the film assure that it’s quite engaging.

Lastly, Nanak Shah Fakir is about the life of Guru Nanak as seen from the eyes of Bhai Mardana, the first Sikh of the world. Buzz is very limited but as evident from Chaar Sahibzaade’s success, film on Sikh history can do wonders. Hence, it won’t be write to underestimate Nanak Shah Fakir.
