DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY had a poor weekend as it grossed around 14.25 crore nett. The writing was on the wall on day one as the collections were not high enough for the for a holiday and Saturday remained pretty flat. Sunday was better with 20% growth and business in the 5.50 crore nett range.
The film has a very high ratio of business coming from the high end multiplexes which enabled the film have relatively decent figures at the PVR, DT and Inox chains while other multiplexes were poor. The film released at a limited number of single screens and collections were awful.
-------------------------
FAST & FURIOUS 7 shattered every initial box office record for Hollywood releases in India. It is basically what DHOOM 3 did as far as Hindi films are concerned. The film has collected a huge 48 crore nett over the four day weekend in all languages.
The previous records for Hollywood releases were 7.48 crore nett on day one by THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (2014). FAST & FURIOUS 7 however went to 12 crore nett. The three day record was THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012) at 24.69 crore nett and FAST & FURIOUS 7 went to 35 crore nett
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (2014) also had an extended four day weekend last year and grossed 30.37 crore nett and now FAST & FURIOUS 7 has gone to 48 crore nett. The margin of all records is huge. The film is already the eighth highest grossing Hollywood release in India and the only films above it are the 50 crore nett plus grossers which is a benchmark for Hollywood films. Another record that is has surpassed is the lifetime business of FAST & FURIOUS 6 in just four days, that film had grossed 43 crore nett approx in 2013.
