In an interview to Mirror (February 5), Sriram Raghavan, the director of Varun Dhavan's upcoming action thriller, Badlapur, had admitted that while an U/A certificate would have given his film a wider reach, the tradeoff would have meant diluting the film's tone. "I'm happier with a clean 'A' and no cuts. At least it's still the film I set out to make. Anyway, I wouldn't show it to any under-10 kid, but today's teenagers are mature enough to have enjoyed the film. I wish we had a mid-rating like PG12, but since we don't, I had no choice but to take the risk of them not seeing my film," he had rued.
Now Mirror has learnt that the makers had applied for a PG 12A rating in UK. This ensures that children who are 12 and above can watch the film under the supervision of their parents or guardians. But according to a source, the censors apparently had issues with the excessive violence and asked that some of the gory scenes be edited out. But this was not acceptable to the filmmaker.
"So, they have gone for a PG-15 rating instead without any cuts. The same 'adult' version which is releasing in India on February 20, will also travel to UK," added the source.
