Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays the antagonist in Badlapur, was not handed out written lines for the movie. He was briefed on the premise of each scene and would deliver the dialogues impromptu. A source said that the idea was to ensure that the dialogues don't look over-dramatised. Director Sriram Raghavan wanted to use Nawaz's spontaneity in upping the cruelty quotient.“Nawaz was not given dialogues but only an overview. Before every shot, he would improvise his scene and structure his own lines, which ended up adding an interesting evil hue to his character,“ he explained.
