MUMBAI MIRROR (January 2, 2015)

Sanjay and Manyata Dutt brought in the New Year with a low-key get-together of family and old friends at their Bandra apartment. However, word soon spread and by the time the guests started arriving, photographers were swarming the venue looking for 'exclusives'.

They got their Kodak moments when Sanjay's brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav's Range Rover rolled in. Keeping him company was wife Namrata, their newly-wed daughter Saachi and brand new son-in-law Bilal Amrohi. Saachi and Namrata took turns to carry their puppy love, who too had tagged along.

Manisha Koirala, who is returning to the public eye after recovering from cancer, too had the lensmen going click, click, click. Ameesha Patel's sole mate was a spiked number from Christian Louboutin and she gave the occasion a nod with a glittery crown perched perkily on her head.

"More than the New Year, it was a celebration of Sanju's return. There was mostly family members around, I was one of the few outsiders," said the actress who owes her friendship with the Dutts to a "disastrous" movie which she refuses to name.

Ameesha, like everyone else, was wowed by Sanjay's newly-trim body. "He has used his prison time really well. He can give any of the young boys a run for their money with those abs. He has come out a spiritual person, which is really inspiring," she asserted.

Her words were echoed by Gulshan Grover, who was twirling moustaches with his buddy, whom he was meeting after two years. "Sanju is so positive.... And his body is amazing, like a rock!" said an awed Gulshan who himself is fighting fit at 59 and goes to the gym seven days a week.

Interestingly, Gulshan was an assistant professor at Roshan Taneja's acting school where Sanjay enrolled to groom himself for his debut film Rocky, which released in 1981. "Sunil Dutt saab, who was the film's producer-director, spotted me there and offered me the role of Sanju's buddy. We made our debut not just in the same film but also in the same shot. I remember we were on the lawn of the Oberoi Hotel in Sringar and Sanju was singing, Aao mere yaaron aao," he recalls.

"His sisters, Namrata and Priya, are my rakhi sisters. Looking into his warm eyes I was completely overwhelmed. I am glad Manyata had invited me into their home."
