After earning acclaim with Ship Of Theseus last year, Sohum Shah will be seen playing a flirtatious guy next door in director Khalid Mohamed's remake of Katha. The actor has bagged the role of Bashudev, essayed by Farooq Shaikh in the original helmed by Sai Paranjpye. The 1983 film, also starring Naseeruddin Shah and Deepti Naval, is a slice-of-life comedy revolving around two friends and their common love interest. Says he, “Khalid had met me with another subject earlier. However, that didn't work out. When he got the rights of the Katha remake, he offered me the role and I agreed instantly. It's one of my favourite films.“

Sohum is aware that stepping into Farooq's shoes is a tall order.Says he, “Farooq sahab had his distinctive style. I'll be interpreting the character as per today's times,“ adding, “Katha is as charming, funny and wise as it was when it released over 30 years ago. It's a delight to be able to bring back this beautiful story for an audience that may have missed out on it.“

Much like the new generation of actors, Sohum, too is chalking his own path by choosing unconventional subjects. Besides the remake, the actor has Meghna Gulzar's next that is written and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and the period drama Tumbad, in which he plays the lead.
