He remembers that their brief was to compose a dance track with Hrithik in mind. And since he is one of the best dancers in B-town it was a “happy“ challenge. “The song was composed in five minutes flat. Vishal and I were jamming on the loop and we came up with an interesting format,“ says Shekhar.
Picking up the thread of conversation Vishal adds, “The engineer, while extending the loop erred, and we got an up-down-up-down tempo which intrigued us. It was a new sound and we played it back to Siddharth who loved it, so did Hrithik. That's how Tu Meri evolved.“
Aisi kya, chali hawa, ki le gayi meri saanson ko mujhse door, Tere paas aur mujhe huaa ehsaas, tu tu tu, tu meri ri ri, main tera ra, hone laga.... The lyrics, penned by Vishal, were part of the scratch-words to hum with the tune.
“Very simple words, with an easy connect and heart-felt. Everyone fell in love with them so they were retained,“ he beams. Vishal has also sung the song. “He sang the scratch and both Siddharth and I loved it. He was the best voice for this song so there was no question of getting it dubbed by anyone else,“ Shekhar reasons.
“This is our fifth film with Siddharth, after Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Bachna Ae Haseeno and Anjaana Anjaani. And in every film, he has taken our songs one step up with the picturisations. We love making music for his movies,“ Shekhar signs off.
