SRK answers in the middle of the night, Deepika sends smileys, Big B always responds, while his bahu is another story…

Newbie Urvashi Rautela, who made her debut in Singh Saab The Great (2013), has a caller tune that warns the caller to be careful about what they speak. It goes, “The number you have called is a VIP number. This call may be monitored for surveillance. Please choose your words carefully before speaking”. Probably, it’s her way of warding off unwanted calls. A few years ago, Bipasha Basu had a funny caller tune. It went, “Hello, hello... I can’t hear you... could you speak a little louder...”, making the caller feel as if she was actually on the other side.

However, these two sexy women and their caller tunes are not the only talking points. Superstars and their phone manners, or should we say, the lack of them, do make for an interesting read. Amitabh Bachchan still has impeccable phone etiquette. You will always get a reply from the cinema legend, even if it is sometimes delayed by a day. His daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is the exact opposite. You may never get a message from her, even if you call to wish her on her birthday.  

 RAHMAN, TABU, SAIRA BANU HAVE A 786 FIXATION
 
The Bachchan bahu is in august company. Shah Rukh Khan also has terrible phone manners. Of course, the nice thing about SRK is that just when you are in deep despair that he hasn’t replied, you may get a surprise message from him in the middle of the night. Since he usually personalises his message — it brings a smile to your face, even if it comes a fortnight after it was meant to. Incidentally SRK’s fixation for the digits 555 extends itself to his phone numbers just like it does to his car registration numbers.

Talking of which, there are at least four to five filmwallahs who insist on having 786 (that denotes Bismillah) in their phone numbers. These are AR Rahman, Firoz Nadiadwala, Saira Banu and Tabu. Rishi Kapoor and his wife Neetu are separated by just one digit in their cell numbers. And the entire Oberoi family—Suresh, Yashodhara and Vivek—has the digits 777 present in their cell numbers.

Katrina Kaif is quite like the Big B. She may not respond to an SMS immediately but be sure you will get a reply even if she is in the UK or Las Vegas. Deepika Padukone is a charmer. If she cannot respond to your message, she will send a non-committal smiley for sure. Her current date, Ranveer Singh, should learn from Deepu. The actor, who would wait next to the phone to respond to messages before Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela, has now developed a very different attitude. These days, he responds to Deepika’s messages, leaving the rest of the world hanging.

 Priyanka Chopra’s phone messenger status usually tells you everything about her. Her destination and her state of mind come across nicely on the messages she posts. Aamir Khan will always respond to a message as does his wife Kiran Rao. And, Karan Johar is prompt on most occasions, except if the question is too sticky.

 Kareena Kapoor Khan has pleasant phone manners. The Begum cannot be separated from her smartphone for even a few hours. Her husband, the Nawab of Pataudi, is charm personified when you meet him but his phone manners suck. Saif Ali Khan prefers not to have any Bollywood people on his phone chat list. That prerogative is reserved for his friends from Oxford.

Ajay Devgn never looks at his phone when he’s at home and his wife Kajol couldn’t be bothered with the world either. Akshay Kumar is always prompt and polite with his replies; wish some others would learn from him. It would foster communication.
