Shahid Kapoor and Irrfan Khan were shooting for Haider in the Aishan Sahib in Zaina Kadal area in Old Srinagar when a kangri (pot filled with coal embers) was hurling at them from the gathered stargazers.
The crew then moved to the next location, Feta Kadal, in the old city, where they were followed by a large entourage of J&K police as well as Central Reserve Police Force personnel.
Sahil Khan, an eyewitness, told Mirror, "The shooting was in progress and both the actors were moving towards a Maruti car when suddenly somebody from the crowd threw a kangri which almost hit Irrfan Khan. The ash flew into the air and covered both Shahid and him. Soon after the incident spectators started fleeing from the spot while a few youths raised anti-India slogans. It was the really childish act." However, the police dismissed it as a freak accident, saying that a man in the crowd had slipped and his kangri had inadvertently hit the two actors."The kangri was not thrown at the stars, it slipped out of an onlooker's hand," said Tahir Saleem, Superintendent of Police (City North).
A Haider crew member outright denied the incident. "The crowd was cheerful and was asking for autographs from the actors. They reciprocated with a smile. No one was injured," said the crew member.
Earlier, the crew had faced protests while shooting at the Kashmir University over the hoisting of the Indian tricolour.
