The Tamil film VIKRAM is looking at a finish in the 225-230 crore nett range making it the second highest grossing film from the Tamil film industry after 2.0 and the seventh highest grosser from the South film industries after BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION, KGF - CHAPTER 2, RRR, 2.0, BAAHUBALI: THE BEGINNING, SAAHO and PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01.
In Tamil Nadu it easily beat the record of VISWASAM which was the highest grossing Tamil film of all time in the state before VIKRAM and it also went past BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION which was the highest grosser in Tamil Nadu though that was not a Tamil film.
VIKRAM: HITLIST, the Hindi version of the film, managed to do almost 11 crore nett which although is a dud performance it has got here with just a 25 lakhs odd opening day. So on that side it did manage to hold on at the box office though the returns and share is paltry at 4.5 crore for Hindi version.
The collections of VIKRAM across India are as follows.
Tamil Nadu - 1,29,00,00,000
Nizam/Andhra - 29,00,00,000
Karnataka - 20,00,00,000
Kerala - 34,00,00,000
Hindi Circuits - 13,50,00,000 (including regional dubbed)
TOTAL - 2,25,50,00,000 apprx

The Tamil film VIKRAM continues its super strong run in the South as it scores excellent numbers in all markets in South. In Tamil Nadu, it has become the highest grossing Tamil film in history as it beat the numbers of VISWASAM. The highest grosser in Tamil Nadu is BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and it will surpass that film by the end of the week.
The film should cross the 125 crore nett mark in Tamil Nadu making it a first for that circuit. VIKRAM has also scored very well overseas and it became the fourth film cross the 300 mark worldwide after ENTHIRAN, KABALI and 2.0. It will also top 400 crore mark which will leave it behind 2.0 only which was around 700 crore.
VIKRAM is also a rare South film to cross the 200 crore nett mark. Although you see big numbers thrown around for South films, in real terms only the two BAAHUBALI films, KGF - CHAPTER 2, RRR, 2.0, PUSHPA and SAAHO have gone over 200 crore and now its VIKRAM. The Hindi version of the film is a dud which is no surprise as the trailer offered nothing but for whatever its worth, the film has held up well on insanely low collections till now.
The collections of VIKRAM across India are as follows. These numbers are till Monday
Tamil Nadu - 1,15,00,00,000
Nizam/Andhra - 28,50,00,000
Karnataka/Mysore - 18,00,00,000
Kerala - 30,50,00,000
Hindi Circuits - 10,25,00,000 (including Tamil version and Telugu versions)
TOTAL - 2,02,25,00,000

The Tamil film VIKRAM is a huge blockbuster in Tamil Nadu as it grossed around 43 crore nett over its first weekend and is heading for a first week total of 66-68 crore nett. The Hindi version VIKRAM: HITLIST is a disaster but the film has done phenomenal business in Tamil Nadu and is generally excellent in other markets of the South. The film should cross the 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu.
The numbers from Tamil Nadu may not look huge as in our industry as you have crazy numbers going around for South films but generally those are way off the mark. Basically the bigger films in Tamil Nadu have not done great in recent years and VIKRAM will be that first big BLOCKBUSTER after VISWASAM in 2019 for the Tamil film industry. KGF - CHAPTER 2 is another blockbuster but that is not from the Tamil film industry. The other blockbuster films of the last 5-6 years have been smaller films. At an all India level the business of VIKRAM should be in the 115 crore nett in the first week.
The Punjabi film SAUNKAN SAUNKNE is also proving to be one of the biggest BLOCKBUSTERS of all time for Punjabi cinema as it will close its fourth week in India with around 30 crore nett business making it the third film in history to cross that mark after CARRY ON JATTA 2 and SHADAA.
The film has also done huge business worldwide as it will be around 55 crore worldwide after its fourth week which makes it the second highest grosser worldwide in history after CARRY ON JATTA 2. Its is unlikely to reach the numbers of CARRY ON JATTA 2 as the run is now coming to an end be it India or Overseas.

SAMRAT PRITHVIRAJ picked up on the day to collect around 10.50-10.75 crore nett on the first day which is a collection on the lower side but much higher than it looked in the morning. The film saw solid improvement in collections in certain circuits while others improved at a slower pace.
The film was driven by business in places like UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, MP and Gujarat with many centres in these areas seeing the best collections of 2022 for original Hindi content. It is basically behind KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR. The subdued initial was mainly because as the film offered little for that initial mass and youth audience as the commercial elements not really there and also the music was not a Hit.
The film will improve further today but it is crucial for the multiplexes of the metros to show good growth as they have had a weak first day comparatively to other pockets. The film is the second most expensive film of Akshay Kumar after SOORYAVANSHI and his second film to have a budget of 200 crore apprx with only SOORYAVANSHI being higher.
There were a couple of other films releases this week from the South and the bilingual MAJOR collected around 1 crore nett while the dubbed VIKRAM - HITLIST was in the 25 lakh nett range. The last named though has done very good business in Tamil Nadu with an expected collection in the range of 14 crore nett.
