THACKERAY has fared poorly at the box office with the Hindi version collecting 15 crore nett in week one and the Marathi version collecting around 10 crore nett in week one. It means a total of a 25 crore nett in all formats for THACKERAY.

The Hindi version was a dud from day one all over barring Maharashtra and even here the collections could not be called good as far as the Hindi version went. The Marathi version took a very strong opening and had a very good first weekend but the collections went downhill in a big way from Monday.

The Hindi version will do less than THE ACCIDENTAL PRIME MINISTER and remain under 20 crore nett and even in all formats the film could remain under 30 crore nett as there will be a huge drop on the second Friday and the Marathi version will also not contribute a lot.

THACKERAY (Hindi) went down further on Tuesday as it took its total to 13 crore nett in its first five days and the week will finish at around 15 crore nett plus. The film will be out in most places barring Maharashtra in the second week.

The bigger problem for the film is that the Marathi version is falling fast and despite a solid weekend the film is going nowhere. The collections on Tuesday were 20-25% from Monday. The film has not been appreciated at all be it in Hindi or Marathi.

The lifetime business in all formats will close under the 30 crore nett mark.

THACKERAY (Hindi) took a big hit on Monday as collections dropped more than 50% to the 1.25-1.50 crore nett. This takes the business to a little under 12 crore nett and the week will be poor as it will finish in the 15 crore nett range.

The Marathi version which did well on the weekend also saw a big drop on Monday as it actually fell more than the Hindi version and this version will do around 12 crore nett for the week. Although even this version will not sustain, it will be better than the Hindi version.

THACKERAY did not do well on its first weekend with collections of 10.50 crore nett in Hindi. The bulk of the collections were from Maharashtra though even there they cannot be called good. The business was poor in North and Eastern belts while cities in Maharashtra which fall in the CP Berar and Nizam circuits were average.

The Hindi version of the film is unlikely to do well and the Marathi version should sustain as it has maintained high level of collections over the weekend. The collections of Thackeray (Hindi) are as follows.

The Marathi version of the film did very well as it picked up collections in the range of 2.5-3 crore nett on each day. This version hardly saw any growth on the big national holiday as day one was so strong. The collections on day three were similar to day one. The weekend business for this version is around 8-8.25 crore nett.

The all formats business of this film is around 18.5 crore nett

MANIKARNIKA - THE QUEEN OF JHANSI (Hindi) was below the mark on day one as it collected around 7.50-8 crore nett on day one. The film was a wide release with over 3000 screens but was unable to penetrate the mass with collections mainly coming from the bigger multiplexes

The film should have done much better in places like UP, MP and Rajasthan but these places had disappointing collections. Mumbai, Gujarat and South were always likely to have lower collections so it is not really surprising that these places have not collected well. The best collections for the film have come in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida belt.

The first day number is still fair if we look at it from the point of heroine driven films but considering the cost of the film the film really needed a double digit or higher first day number. Despite the scale there was limited face value and no music which has probably affected the initial of the film.

There is the big holiday on Saturday which will push up the collections but from this level its unlikely the film can do what it should be doing on a big national holiday. The crunch will be Sunday when the film will have to show collections matching or even going higher than the national holiday depending on where the Republic Day figures land.

The other major release of the week THACKERAY grossed around 2.75-3 crore nett in Hindi with bulk of the collections coming from Mumbai circuit. The collections were pretty dull outside Mumbai circuit with collections getting worse further North you went. Like a Gurgaon or Noida were better compared to a Amritsar or Jammu.

The film will will only really have chances in Maharashtra but if it is to go anywhere then the film really has to show a big turnaround in collections in Delhi/UP. When a film can score in Mumbai and Delhi/UP then it always be at least reasonable business even on a worse case scenario.

The Republic Day holiday will also help push this film but the real story will be post the holiday. The film was also released in Marathi which had good numbers and could cross 2 crore nett in this format.

MANIKARNIKA - THE QUEEN OF JHANSI (Hindi) showed strong growth on its second day as it collected 17.75-18 crore nett to take its two day total to around 25.50 crore nett. The growth on the second day is a huge 125-130% though a lot of this growth is down to the national holiday and Sunday will tell actually how big this growth was.

The growth has come all over on the second day with Delhi/UP and the central markets leading the way with good collections with a little under performance in Mumbai and South but that is sort of expected. THACKERAY is providing competition in Mumbai circuit especially as there is a Marathi version.

The next two days will be crucial for MANIKARNIKA - THE QUEEN OF JHANSI (Hindi) as although these collections are very good for a female driven film it is also a far bigger film than other female driven films.

THACKERAY is doing very well in Marathi but the Hindi version is not good. There was growth on day two but not the sort that is required on a national holiday. The Hindi version only really has chances in Maharashtra and Mumbai and Pune to be specific and the growth was far less than MANIKARNIKA - THE QUEEN OF JHANSI in these two cities despite the film collecting at lower levels.

The Marathi version of the film is very strong and will probably turn out to be one of the bigger Marathi films outside their historic blockbuster SAIRAT. The screenings for the Hindi version are being shifted to Marathi in many cities of Maharashtra.
