SECRET SUPERSTAR had a fair first week of 41 crore nett plus as it managed to collect well over the Diwali period but could not collect so well over the weekdays. The decent first numbers have come because of the presence of Aamir Khan in an extended guest role but the film itself has not really found an audience.

The film is very much like a DEAR ZINDAGI which had Shah Rukh Khan as an guest extended role where the reasonable numbers come because of the big star but the film itself does not work and is not really liked by the audience. The collections of SECRET SUPERSTAR till date are as follows.

SECRET SUPERSTAR is continuing with low collections on weekdays but collections are steady with 10% drops daily. It added another 2.50 crore nett on Wednesday taking its total to 39 crore nett and the week will finish 41 crore nett plus.

Despite the low steady collections the problem is the film has not gone on as a content film should on the weekdays. Its likely that the film will have the bulk of its collection on the opening weekend and that is not really the aim for these type of films. The plus for the film will be hardly any new competition in week two and could enable the film to some decent collections in the second week. If there was major releases then screenings would have been a issue considering the occupancy SECRET SUPERSTAR is having on the weekdays.

SECRET SUPERSTAR continued with low collections on Tuesday as it collected 2.75 crore nett. The drop is 10% from the previous day but the film is running at low occupancy which does not go well for the second week. The total business of the film so far is 36.50 crore nett

The holiday continued in Gujarat yesterday but this film has only a limited benefit as collections are very bad in Gujarat. In fact the Gujarat collections of GOLMAAL AGAIN are almost double of the whole Mumbai circuit collections of SECRET SUPERSTAR and Mumbai along with Mysore is the best circuit for SECRET SUPERSTAR. SECRET SUPERSTAR dropped on Monday as it collected around 3 crore nett apprx. If we take the fair value collections on Friday then the drop is a little more than normal. Still despite the drop the film is okay financially as Aamir Khan is the producer and there is no cost of his role but if there it was outside producer and there was cost then it would be a different story.

The film was never going to be appreciated outside the five metros and looking at Monday figures the appreciation in the metros is also average. That is where the problem has come for the film that the metro audience has not really taken to it. Most of the country does not care for these type of films be it NEERJA or KAHAANI or DEAR ZINDAGI or now SECRET SUPERSTAR. If the appreciation is to come then its the five metros to varying degrees and this one is seems far less than a NEERJA or KAHAANI and even less than DEAR ZINDAGI. The extended first week should close above the 40 crore nett mark but then it will be a struggle and remains to be seen how much it can add post the first week.

SECRET SUPERSTAR had a fairly good weekend as it grossed over 30 crore nett in its extended first weekend. The film released on Thursday which was not a good day for collections but then picked up on the big holiday and has held up well over the weekend. The film is for a very limited audience and though some stations outside the metros are reasonable that is only down to the holiday factor and they are unlikely to do well.

DEAR ZINDAGI which had a similar audience profile with a big star guest role did 32 crore nett over the weekend. It was a three day weekend there and without a clash but it was not a holiday and the that film was also released on 600 less screens. It will be down to the metros to take the film to a respectable total as the reports from smaller cities are not too good and on top there is GOLMAAL AGAIN going very strong. SECRET SUPERSTAR had a reasonable third day as it grossed in the 8.50 crore nett range. Its a decent hold after the big holiday with a drop of 8%. The film is performing well in the metros but  not outside the five major cities where the holiday did not give it the sort of push that it really needed. SECRET SUPERSTAR should do well enough on Sunday to record healthy weekend figures but the test will be on Monday.

It is going to be about what the likes of Mumbai city, Pune and Bangalore do on Monday which is the case for most films of this genre. The collections of SECRET SUPERSTAR till date are as follows.

SECRET SUPERSTAR had low opening day in the range of 4.50-4.75 crore nett. The film was affected by festivities for Diwali in most circuits but that is always the case for a film released on Diwali day. The collections of the film were best in Bangalore while Mumbai city and Pune were also fair. Generally the collections outside metros were very poor and this was partly due to Diwali puja but also as this genre does not hold much interest for that audience especially as far as the initial goes. The film may have Aamir Khan as a face but it does not make much difference in the core markets for Hindi films. The worst was UP which had awful numbers. The film will be depending on the metros and possibly a few other A centres especially the ones with a bigger Muslim audience.

The film will have a huge jump on Friday as it is the big holiday for Diwali and the best day for collections in the year and the figures will be much higher than what these type of normally do which means a far bigger audience will come due to the holiday and the solid 1750 screen release the film has managed to get. The screen count is not huge if you compare with likes of TUBELIGHT and BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION but for this genre its big as 1000 screens would have been enough. The film will have GOLMAAL AGAIN for competition from today and this will make it tougher outside the metros as that film will be first choice but Secret Superstar will probably dent GOLMAAL AGAIN in the metros especially in places like Bangalore and Kolkata.

SECRET SUPERSTAR had good growth of around 80% on the national holiday as it collected around 9 crore nett. Its a good collection for the film as it has limited appeal although the presence of Aamir Khan gave the film higher expectations as far as the trade and media was concerned. But eventually a film of this genre has a limited audience and the numbers will reflect that. The film has managed to collect a little outside the metros but that is because of the holiday period.
