Sumona Chakravarti on not being part of Kapil Sharma’s show: "Koi khoon ka rishta thodi hai"
7:50 AM
Posted by Fenil Seta

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; June 7, 2024)
Sumona Chakravarti values her privacy and prefers to keep the focus on her work rather than her personal life. She explains, “Hamesha available ho jaao toh mystery khatam ho jaati hai. I am quite old-school in that regard. Pehle zamaane mein mystery rehti thi, jab social media nahi tha. I believe in maintaining that sense of mystery, so I prefer the era before social media. While I am fine with attention on me as an artiste, I prefer to keep my personal life private.”
Sumona is currently shooting for the 14th season of the stunt-based reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in Romania. She says, “I have taken it on as a challenge. Being an adventure and adrenaline junkie, I felt the urge to reignite that passion.”
The actress, who has been part of several TV shows such as Kasamh Se, Kasturi, Khotey Sikkey, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, and Jamai Raja, is today more known as Kapil Sharma’s wife Manju from his comedy show. Often, a popular role can overshadow an artiste’s other work. Does she feel the same way?
“Yes, it has been overshadowed because many know me only from Bade Achhe Lagte Hain or as Manju from Comedy Nights With Kapil. It has been a bit of a speed bump, but I am also repositioning myself by telling people that I have a body of work and am eager to take up different characters,” she replies.
Since Manju has been a much-loved character, was she disappointed when she wasn’t called to join the cast of the OTT version of Kapil’s show?
“Not at all. After wrapping up the season on TV last July, I got busy networking and auditioning. When I found out about the show, it didn’t matter because koi khoon ka rishta thodi hai ki hum kahiin aur zindagi mein kaam nahi karenge kisi aur ke saath, aur yahin karenge. Honestly, I am on a different journey and in a different mindset. That’s a very talented group of people, and I think it’s time for people to see my other talents,” she concludes.
Sonu Sood steps up for Indian students in Ukraine

As India ramps up evacuation plans, Sood’s foundation teams up with embassies in Poland and Romania to help Indian students stranded in Ukraine cross borders
Uma Ramasubramanian (MID-DAY; March 3, 2022)
In the week since Russian President Vladimir Putin began the military invasion of Ukraine, its effects have been strongly felt around the globe. India has since ramped up its evacuation efforts to get countless students back home. Even as the government aims to bring back over 6,300 Indians from Ukraine by March 8 under Operation Ganga, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has now joined forces to aid the initiative.
Over the past few days, several stranded students — from Kyiv to Lviv — reached out to the actor on social media, seeking help. Sood Foundation reacted promptly to the distress messages and initiated contact with the Indian embassies in Romania and Poland. The members of the foundation teamed up with Ukraine’s neighbouring countries with a two-fold objective — first, to determine alternative routes for students to cross the Ukrainian border and reach safe territories.
For this, the team is heavily relying on the embassies’ knowledge of the local region and is constantly tracking the situation at the chosen exit points. Secondly, the foundation is also arranging transport for students in certain areas.
A source says, “They have teamed up with local Indian bodies in Poland and are sending taxis to take Indian students to the airport.” Yesterday, Sood wrote on Twitter that his foundation had helped 300-plus students cross the border, so far.
mid-day got in touch with Laxman Agarwal, a Lviv National Medical University student, who landed in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon by one of the flights under Operation Ganga. He said that while some of his friends were stuck at the Shehnyi border, he was guided by Sood’s team to take an alternative route, thus making it safely to Poland. “They suggested a safe route to cross the border. They were constantly in touch with us, and were aware of the ground reality. His team gave us hope when we had lost it.”
In 2020, amid the pandemic-induced lockdown, Sood helped numerous migrant workers reach their hometowns.
I feel bad about direct-to-web release of Yaara as it was made for a theatrical release-Tigmanshu Dhulia

Even as he is glad that Yaara is seeing the light of day, director Tigmanshu Dhulia rues movie was designed for the big screen
Uma Ramasubramanian (MID-DAY; July 6, 2020)
Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has mixed feelings about the digital premiere of his film, Yaara. While he is relieved that the Vidyut Jammwal and Shruti Haasan-starrer is finally seeing the light of day after being stuck in the cans for over three years, the director admits he had hoped for a big-screen release."Only the producer can answer why the film was stuck all this while. I believe we have no option but to release our films on OTT platforms amid the Coronavirus pandemic. I am thrilled that people will be able to watch this film finally. Despite the delay, it will not look dated because the story is set in a certain period," he states.
Yaara is an official adaptation of the 2011 French film, Les Lyonnais. The movie, also featuring Amit Sadh and Vijay Varma, revolves around four friends who enter the world of organised crime. Even as several big-ticket films are seeking a digital release, Dhulia acknowledges that he had envisioned his story unfolding on the 70mm screen. "I feel bad [about the direct-to-web release] of Yaara because it was made for a theatrical release. It is not a concept-driven film. It was mounted on a big scale and shot across nine locations, including Bhopal, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Mumbai, Dehradun, Kathmandu and Romania," he says.
The director adds that the medium plays a crucial role in determining narrative style. "I would have made Yaara differently [for the digital platform] because OTT is a mix of films and television. In that case, the writing, blocking of scenes and the treatment of the script would have changed drastically."

Makers flew to Romania, where they initially wanted to recreate the city, for a recce but have now decided to go with real locations
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 26, 2019)
Prep for Mahesh Bhatt’s directorial comeback Sadak 2, which is a sequel to his 1991 romantic thriller and features his daughters Alia and Pooja Bhatt alongside Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur, is in full swing. Recently, Mahesh and Pooja flew to Romania, where they had initially planned to recreate Mumbai, to scout for locations. Now, Mirror has learnt that the landscape of the European country didn’t really meet the duo’s vision, so the makers have decided to shoot the portions in the city.Confirming the news, producer Mukesh Bhatt told Mirror, “Yes, it’s true. We didn’t find locations like Mumbai in Romania, so we would be shooting those portions here. The film will also be shot in other parts of India. The creative decision to not go ahead with Romania was taken by Mahesh, who is directing the film. We are putting up a set at Mehboob studio in Bandra where Sanjay and Alia will join us on the first day in mid-May.”
Previously, the team had also travelled to Kedarnath and Rishikesh for a recce. Sadak 2 marks Mahesh Bhatt’s return to direction 20 years after the 1999 Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala-starrer action-crime-thriller Kartoos.
Anurag Basu’s name was enough to get me on board-Aditya Roy Kapur

Actor on working with the Metro director, Mahesh Bhatt’s comeback & discovering the filmmaker in Varun Dhawan
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 1, 2019)
Aditya Roy Kapur, who was last seen on screen in Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu in January 2017, has started the new year on a busy note. While he starts work on Anurag Basu’s multi-starrer this month, he will shortly move on to Mahesh Bhatt’s directorial comeback Sadak 2, having wrapped up Abhishek Varman’s period-drama, Kalank. Incidentally, in the last two films he shares screen space with Alia Bhatt. The actor recently made his social media debut and admits that he has no idea how he will handle the attention. Excerpts:
What’s the latest on Anurag Basu’s film?
I start work on it this month, but I don’t know where we are shooting yet. Anurag’s name was enough to get me on board. I have always admired his work and have wanted to work with him. This film is in a different zone from Kalank and Sadak 2, and as an actor, at this stage, I want to experiment and push myself. I am not sure if you can call it lighter than my previous roles but it’s certainly different.
You kick off Sadak 2 next in Romania in April. The film reunites you with Alia after Kalank...
Sadak 2 will begin after I wrap up Anurag’s film. It is exciting to have Bhatt saab (Mahesh Bhatt) come back to direction after so many years. Of course, it’s great working with Alia again too, since we are bringing something different from Kalank to the screen with this one.
Kalank has just wrapped up and we often see you hanging out with your co-stars, Varun Dhawan, Alia and Sonakshi Sinha at social dos…
The film’s wrap-up felt like a big loss but now we are excited that the world will get to see what we had been working on for the last year-and-a-half. It doesn’t happen with every film but on this one, Varun, Alia, Sonakshi and I got along well. Now I’m waiting for the promotions… more masti is sure to ensue.
The film also sees you share screen space with acting veterans Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. There’s always so much to learn from them. To be able to have a front row seat to watch these greats do their thing is priceless.
Varun recently shared a video online which showcased your funny side. It went viral.
People tend to associate me with serious characters and think that I am like that in real life as well. Maybe I should be flattered but good thing is, people saw another side of me. Varun is a master at capturing memorable moments on his Insta stories. He’s cool and easy-going so people feel relaxed in his company. I’d like to thank him for being such a good director solely on the basis of the performance he got out of me.
So, you are finally on social media. How does it feel?
It is one of those things that was a long time coming. Everyone, from my contemporaries and friends to my managers, put a lot of pressure on me and I resisted all this while. In the end, it was like ‘the straw that breaks the camel’s back’ kind of a situation where I was at the gym counter waiting for my protein shake. There were two girls who I had never met before. They had watched Varun’s video of me which shows me trying to get on Instagram. They were very persuasive that I agree and maybe I was in the mood to give in. So, I downloaded the app and made an account. Even now I have no idea what I will post on it. It’s a case of jumping into the deep end of the swimming pool… you will either sink or swim.

Salman Khan’s family is perfect. They are an example for everyone to follow-Iulia Vantur

Itishree Mishra (BOMBAY TIMES; February 1, 2018)
As Iulia Vantur walked confidently into a hotel on Sunday in a peach dress, the Romanian TV host-singer looked quite comfortable and relaxed, greeting everyone warmly. She was unperturbed by the curious glances of many who wanted to catch a glimpse of Salman Khan’s alleged girlfriend. In a chat with us, she spoke about her love for India and why she doesn’t want people to label her or her relationships.
You’ve made India your second home... what do you like best about this country?
It’s beautiful. It’s a challenging experience for me because I have to learn so many things. But I enjoy all this learning process and I love Indian culture and the warmth of its people. I think it’s a life-changing experience for me. Living in a different country with a different mentality is not easy. Of course, there are quite a few similarities, in the way we girls grew up, for instance. The fact that the family bonding is so strong. You know, the kids might be living somewhere away from their parents but they still keep that bonding. That’s very important because it gives you stability in life and a base because there’s nothing more important than having your dear ones near you, right? When you feel weak, when you are down, if you have your family next to you, if you have a brother-sister, I think it’s amazing. I’m the only child, so I understand even more what it means to have close bonds and relationships.
On your first visit to India, you visited Rishikesh. Tell us more about that visit.
I had heard about the place from several people that it is very beautiful and serene. I’m very passionately curious about my personal development. I want to grow as a person because I know that’s the most important thing in your life – to be a better person with every passing day of your life. No matter what your job is, no matter how much money you have in your account or even if you don’t, to become a better person, that one can do, without money, without power without any other advantages. I think that was my first goal, to become a better person in life. So, I searched for places that help you to go on that path, so Rishikesh was one of them. I had heard about it too, from friends and people who had been there. And honestly, I wanted to see what was it like living in an ashram. It was so beautiful!
So, do you visit the ashram often?
No, I don’t go back very often. But I would love to go back. Actually, now that you’ve reminded me, I will. I think it’s a very good idea, thank you for reminding me. (laughs)
You must have had some idea of India before you came here. Is what you’ve seen and experienced here so far better than what you had imagined it to be?
Yes, but what I have discovered here is so much more than I had thought of ever. The first time when I was here, I remember I loved it so much that when I had to go back to Romania, I was crying. The vibe, the energy, the bonding that I had with this land was so strong that I was like, ‘Okay, I actually should come back here.’ I knew that I would come back here, yet I was crying while going back. So I came back, I came back many times!
How has having friends like Salman Khan helped you feel more comfortable here in India?
It means a lot to have good friends and good people around you. I discovered so many beautiful things because of these people. It feels good to have someone who can teach you things about the culture, who can show you another world, right? Salman’s family, for instance, is such a beautiful family, it’s perfect. They are an example for everyone to follow. And the amount of good work they do, every single day. Not just feeding people, they help people in whatever way they can. Medical camps, and so many other ways in which they all help anyone they feel is in need.
Are you happy that people now also know you as Iulia rather than just Salman Khan’s friend?
I’m happy with myself, anyway. I know the value that I give to myself because I know who I am and what I am capable of, and the people who are close to me know who and what I am. Perhaps better than me. So yeah, people can put labels, we tend to do these things. But after some time I think, we remove that label and we see the person. So I would like people to know me Iulia, as I am, without these labels.
What do you have to say about Salman?
What can I say about him? He is a beautiful human being and we all can learn from him.
How’s the music going on? Have you started learning Indian classical music?
Oh, that’s going very well. Yes, I have started learning music and I really enjoyed it. I enjoy the whole process. I never thought I’ll love it so much. But I really love to spend time in the studio, I love to jam with Vishal and other friends. I spend a lot of time in the studio when we’re jamming, recording or playing a new song. I love it.

Iulia Vantur takes on trolls, opens up about good friend Salman Khan and describing Mumbai as her home, says ‘Home is where the heart is’
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 16, 2018)
For someone who is seen way more than she is heard in the public domain, Iulia Vantur instantly registers her presence with a pronounced accent and wit. She is also strikingly articulate in a retelling of her discovery of India — walking through the streets of Rishikesh during her maiden visit, exploring art in Rajasthan, and acquainting herself with the vibe of Mumbai, which she has come to call home over the last few years. In this interview, the 37-year-old TV host-singer (she was never an actress, she clarifies after frequently being called one) talks about lesser-known aspects of her life in Romania, her equation with Salman Khan and Bollywood aspirations.
Your friendship with Salman Khan and proximity to his family has made headlines in the last two years. Is it somewhat tiring to remain silent on the subject, especially since you live in Mumbai now?
I was 19 when I walked into a newsroom for the first time. I had heard that a channel was looking for an anchor. I was going to drop in my CV and leave, when an assistant told me that the producer hated blondes and I didn’t stand a chance. I insisted on giving it a shot anyway. As luck would have it, the producer walked by right then and upon learning that I wanted to be an anchor, asked me if I’d take the test right away. I was young and hesitant but I aced it and landed the job. I worked as a news anchor for the next 15 years, writing, editing news stories and becoming an independent, working woman in the process. I was winning at life. I went on to host Dancing With The Stars for eight seasons. So, I don’t scare easy. And I don’t focus on the negativity.
Nobody knows this side of you…
Nobody knows me here. They even call me ‘Lulia’ here, when my name is spelt with an ‘I’. I am a respected personality in Romania. A news anchor receives a certain status symbol wherever they are based. Here, people don’t know of my life and journey. They don’t know my struggles and the hard work that I have put in for decades. They look at me and they see a girl with big Bollywood dreams. (Laughs) But that’s not me at all! I’ve lived the famed life, the rich life, and I don’t crave for it. I never thought life would bring me to India but I followed my heart and here I am.
Online trolls have been merciless, constantly using uncharitable words to downplay your professional achievements…
Many friends have told me that I need to have a reaction to things that are happening around me. But my life is filled with beautiful moments and beautiful people, and I choose to stick to that. I’m a single child, born to caring and protective parents, and they get really pissed off when they hear things about my private life. After I finished law school, my father was sure I’d become a court magistrate one day. And despite my foray into television and eventually music, they have supported me. It upsets them to hear negative comments about their only child. But they know who they raised at home, and I like to guard their privacy.
You’re a Hindi singer now. Do you also have plans to become a Bollywood actress?
(Laughs) I had never planned to come to India to work. There was no ambition, no fool-proof plan. Salman (Khan) is a good friend and he guided me, encouraging me to sing. I never thought that I would be able to sing in Hindi but he supported me. I started singing because of him. I had no plans to be a part of Bollywood but I also like surprises at the same time.
There is so much talk around his bachelorhood and your impending marriage…
I’m aware of the gossip. Most of it is not true. But I cannot stop people from spinning stories. I have a lot of respect for Salman. At the same time, I have no idea where life is taking me. Three years ago, I was all about being responsible and making plans, but not everything turns out the way we expect them to. Not everything is our will. What happens was meant to happen.
How did it all – the music, the rumours, your initiation into the elite circle of Bollywood – really begin?
It started from the song “Teri Meri” (sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal for the 2011 Salman-starrer Bodyguard). At the time, I was in the studio, and everybody asked me to sing a Romanian song. I chose a Christmas carol that I sing to my parents every year. Himesh (Reshammiya, composer) loved it and said, “We’re going to make a beautiful song out of this.” Six years later, when he wanted to work on a music video, he thought of me, and “Every Night and Day” came into being.
You’re ready with your next single, “Harjai”…
Maniesh (Paul, who also features in the single) and I are great friends and since we’re both TV hosts, there’s a lot of conversations around that. I spend a lot of time at recording studios and Sachin Gupta, who was composing a track for T-Series at the time, heard me jam with Maneish. We were soon having fun and he asked me to join in. It was a challenge learning pronunciations of Hindi words but Sachin and director Shabina Khan helped me through it. There’s so much to learn from Indian classical music and I’d love to explore it next.
Is there an album in the works, too?
I don’t have a plan for that. My music will remain an organic journey. And Mumbai is now my home. Home is where the heart is.
So will the media be hearing more from you now?
Maybe… Well, honestly, no.

Vantur tells a Romanian publication that she won’t be returning to
India to marry Salman Khan due to “cultural differences”
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 19, 2016)
Following months of speculations surrounding their impending nuptials, Salman Khan’s alleged Romanian fiancee Iulia Vantur, in an interview with the leading Romanian publication, Libertatea, recently revealed that she has no intentions of marrying the Bollywood superstar and that it was their cultural differences that sent her scurrying back to her home country on the pretext of renewing her visa.
Thirty six-year-old Iulia who is a popular television host and actress in Romania recently won a ‘Successful Woman’ award at a celebrity gala. And while she told the media on the red carpet that she would not like to talk about her relationship with the 50-year-old actor given that the duo preferred to keep things private, she finally opened up to the local publication over two interviews.
When asked if she had already secretly tied the knot, Iulia said in her mother tongue, which translated to – “I have been married, and I have left my previous husband in the past. But when I was in India, neither did I marry, nor did I part ways with anyone. God forbid!” She continued to recount her India journey in the last two years. “I started to sing in Hindi, and took singing lessons. I worked hard for many years and it bothers me that only my private life has been discussed. The last time I stayed in India for five-six months, it indicated a lot of things that I do not want to address. But the Indian mentality is really different, the culture, the people. Everything is different. You do not have as much privacy, because you stay with many people in one house. I also did not realise that I had to dress a certain way on the streets. Now, I understand that my clothing was too low cut,” Iulia confided.
While in India, Iulia lived at Salman’s Galaxy apartments, with his parents Salim and Salma Khan, and was a permanent fixture at all Khan-daan gatherings. She had also accompanied the actor to the sets of his last release, Sultan, for which she had recorded a song as well as Salman’s upcoming film, Kabir Khan’s Tubelight, which was being shot in Leh Ladakh till a while ago.
Meanwhile, grapevine in India was abuzz with news that the duo would be tying the knot by the year-end but looks like Iulia prefers the comfort of her European home over the idea of sacrificing her freedom for Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor.
However, in her last interview with European channel Pro TV, which was also transcribed by Libertatea and published on November 17, Iulia admitted that she would definitely like to go back to India. “But for a vacation…” she added with a smile.

9 facts you didn't know about Raaz Reboot
8:03 AM
Posted by Fenil Seta
BOMBAY TIMES (September 15, 2016)
Raaz Reboot has generated
curiosity ever since the first teaser was launched online. Given that
the makers have called it curtains on their hit franchise after the
fourth instalment, here's looking at four reasons why audience shouldn't
miss this Emraan Hashmi-Kriti Kharbanda-Gaurav Arora-starrer that is
written and directed by Vikram Bhatt.
ROMANIA
One of the locations that top the imagination of horror aficionados, the country, famed for its countless tales of Dracula, has been aptly explored by Vikram. From shooting in Romania's most haunted forests to other spine-chilling yet exotic locales, the film promises to be a visual treat.
RAAZ
The film's makers revolutionised the horror genre with a different story that also gave audiences something to take back with them. Not to forget, every franchise in this series has been a box office hit. What's the raaz this time for Kriti's possessed avatar to send shivers down the spine is what the producers and director keep the viewers guessing.

ROMANCE
This is a significant ingredient that makes the franchise unique in the genre. Toplined with talented names in the music industry, the haunting and soulful soundtrack has only added to the romance and mystery of Raaz Reboot.
REUNION
This film also brings together producers Bhushan Kumar and Bhatt brothers - Mahesh and Mukesh - a formidable combination, who prove it yet again with the soundtrack. Emraan teams up again with his Raaz 3 director, Vikram, in a role he owns with trademark ease.

BEHIND THE SCENES
- While shooting at the Bucharest Palace, Emraan, Kriti, Gaurav, Vikram and the team could sense a eerie vibe. What's more, they would get gooseflesh each time they walked down the hallways and felt that they were being watched.
- Besides steamy intimate scenes with Emraan, Kriti also performed the action scenes herself. Not only does the film mark her Bollywood debut, but also her first in doing stunts, dubbing her own lines and mouthing expletives as part of her character.
- According to Emraan, this is the scariest of the Raaz films. The actor, who has been associated with the franchise from the first, on which he was assisting Vikram, says the locations and the atmosphere added to the chilling moments.
- After having played a painter in Raaz 2 and a director in Raaz 3, Emraan turns a photographer for Raaz Reboot. He experiments with a different look, sporting a man-bun, which has got him a lot of attention.

- Gaurav, who plays a banker, looked to Hollywood star Harrison Ford for inspiration and adapted his sophistication and mannerisms for his role.
- The first intalment featured a raven and the director has brought the bird back in the fourth outing as well. The scene in which a raven flies straight into the windshield of Gaurav's car spooked the crew at the shoot, too.

- Vikram was impressed that his lead actress had no qualms about looking ugly in the scenes her character gets possessed. He says, “Kriti was the first actress who insisted on being made to look ugly.“
- Emraan calls Lo Maan Liya from this film his 'all-time favourite' song. He says, “The tunes are haunting and have an element of mystery about them.“
- While shooting for the scene that required her character to be nude, Kriti insisted that every crew member in the room would strip down, too, despite minus 10 degrees temperature. “Why would I freeze alone?“ she joked, making sure all present were stripped down to their basics.

Whether we go for Raaz 5 will depend on subsequent scripts-Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi on the biggest challenge he faced while filming the fourth instalment of Raaz
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 29, 2016)
Emraan Hashmi is back with another Raaz, part four of the hit franchise, despite having said earlier that he wouldn't want to go beyond part three. Remind him of this and the actor insists he had a good reason to change his mind.
"I was clear about not wanting to be in part four because our audience is smart and has already seen and experienced not just Hindi but also international films. But after hearing the script I was convinced about going ahead with the next part. There is a supernatural element in this story which will keep the audiences guessing about who is playing the dirty games. Whether we go for more instalments will depend on subsequent scripts," he reasons.
He prefers keeping mum on speculations that he plays a vampie in the film, saying simply with a smile, "The suspense element is integral to this franchise you have to unravel. Why spoil it!" His co-star, Kriti Kharbanda, who is a big name down South is making her Bollywood debut with Raaz Reboot. Emraan is all praise for her. "She's fantastic, there's so much subtlety and subtext in her acting. But this is the first time she's doing a horror film, it is a different experience for her too," he points out.
He's a master in the horror genre after Raaz: The Mystery Continues and Raaz 3D. Did he need any particular prep for this one? The actor laughs, "The only prep required was how to deal with the cold, mouth your lines in minus 18 degrees. We were trying to give the audience chills while dealing with the chill ourselves."
Meanwhile, buzz is that he's playing a vampire or may be the devil himself in the new Raaz. The query is greeted with a guffaw, "I can't reveal anything because going by the title it's a deep dark secret. You'll know once you watch the film."
Shooting for the fourth Raaz kicked off in Romania on January 14 this year with the team shooting in sub-zero temperatures for almost 60 days. "The snow took the franchise into The Omen and The Shining zone, giving the characters an eerie vibe and enhancing their sense of aloneness," Emraan had told Mirror in an earlier interview
Romania's leading tabloid calls Iulia Vantur as 'royal Mrs Khan'

Romania must function in a time zone light years ahead of India. While the desi media has been stuck with referring to Salman Khan's ladylove as his 'girlfriend', as far as their Romanian counterparts are concerned, 36-year-old Iulia Vantur is already the 'royal Mrs Khan'
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 16, 2016)
On Saturday, the couple visited the Thikse Monastery to meet the Dalai Lama and seek his blessings. The spiritual leader was clicked holding both their hands as the trio shared a laugh. Buzz is, Iulia and Salman are set to tie the knot later this year.
Born in Romania in 1980, Iulia completed her schooling with specialization in law at 15, going on to work as a TV presenter and model. An only child of social worker parents who run the Hope Foundation in Romania, Iulia went on to work full-time with Europa Nova, a local channel in Eastern Europe.
Her Bollywood career didn't quite take off but she did manage to land a seven-figure remuneration for just a special appearance in Salman's sister, Alvira and hubby Atul Agnihotri's 2014 film, O Teri. The film tanked but served as a catalyst to Salman and Iulia's blossoming romance.
Iulia grew close to Salman's inner circle, especially Daisy Shah who debuted in Jai Ho, while maintaining a calculated distance from him in public. She was among the audience at the trailer launch of Salman's 2014 Eid release, Kick, and might have gone unnoticed had it not been for a hawk eyed Indonesian Sallu fan who posted a picture of her on social media.
More recently, Iulia struck up a friendship with Arbaaz Khan's wife Malaika Arora Khan who turned up at a Bandra eatery when she heard that Iulia was dining there alone. Last month when Salman was in Budapest to shoot a promotional song, he met her parents. On May 13, his lady love was with his sister Alvira when they arrived for Preity Zinta and Gene Goodenough's wedding reception. When quizzed about their first public appearance, Salman had shot back, “Was I with her or was she with my sister? I ran away in front. I don't want to keep the press so busy. My private life may be national news but it's not that important.“
Iulia's presence at all Khan dos attracted wide media attention, forcing her to turn all her social media accounts private three months ago. Her pictures with Marius splashed all over the Indian web rattled her in particular and Salman prodded her to release a statement which read, “Dear friends, I didn't feel the need to react to any rumours, ever. But now, I think I should state clearly that I was never married and I am in no hurry to wear my wedding dress. God bless us all!“
Sallu mentioned Iulia publicly for the first time this July, sharing a link to the song she'd sung for his wrestling-drama, Sultan. But he has consistently maintained that if he ever got engaged or married, he'd announce it himself and not hide it like those yesteryear stars who hid their wives thinking that it would lessen their fan following. “I know the whole country would be happy for me,“ he'd asserted to Mirror (May 21). Salman loves kids, so does Iulia. When quizzed about whether he wants kids of his own, Salman had said, “I'd like to have a child but the problem with that is with the child the mother comes along. If I can avoid the mother and have a child I wouldn't mind two or three.“
Maybe it is a big step for Salman, however, as far as the Romanian media is concerned, their leading tabloid, Click, has already taken to addressing Iulia as “Doamna Khan“ which translates as “royal Mrs Khan“.
After over three decades of dating actresses, mostly co-stars with whom he'd shared screen space, sources believe that Salman has picked Iulia to be his life partner because she is extremely discreet, gets along with his family and shares his love for kids and animals. Ms Right? We'll know soon enough.
I'd have risked meeting a ghost had I been around-Emraan Hashmi

BRRR, IT'S COLD!
Raaz had taken off in the hills of Ooty, moved to Mumbai and continued to create horror in the heart of the city through Part 2 and 3. It was time to give the series a new look. The snow took the Mukesh Bhatt and Bhushan Kumar production into The Omen and The Shining zone, giving the characters an eerie air and enhancing the sense of aloneness of the characters. January is the peak of winter in Romania, when I landed, it was minus 16 degrees centigrade. My jacket meant for the Arctic climes, leather gloves and snow cap kept me warm till it was time for a shot. Then, the layers of woollens would come off because you can't look obese on camera, and at times, I'd have to give a retake simply because my teeth were chattering too much.
Occasionally, when it was freezing, urged on by the local crew, I'd take a swig of Tucia, a plum drink. One shot and I was good to go out into the winter chill. But unsure of its alchohol content, I was careful not to drink too much as I didn't want to look tipsy on screen.
IN DRACULA'S CASTLE
Having seen the Francis Ford Cappola's 1973 classic, Bram Stoker's Dracula, I was excited about visiting the Bran Castle, an hour's drive from Sibiu our first stop, between Transylvania and Wallachia. It was snowing. We didn't get permission to shoot inside Dracula's castle, so we took a few shots from outside. Then, I took the guided tour, climbing the stairs, gawking at the art and furniture collected by Queen Marie, and buying a knife as a memorablia.
GREAT DICTATOR
I couldn't film in the Hoia-Baciu Forest near Cluj-Napoca as I had to return to India midway through the shoot. Romania's Bermuda Triangle is supposed to be the world's most haunted forest following reports of ghost sightings, unexplained paranormal events, strange-looking trees with charred stumps and branches. Locals who have gone in have come back complaining of rashes, migraines, burns and other physical discomfort. Some never returned. I'd have risked meeting a ghost had I been around. The only ones I've met so far have been in reel life. We filmed in the mansion outside which dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was apprehended while attempting to flee with his wife in a chopper. He was handed over to the army, tried and shot. The story gave us the shivers and so did the property where we were staying. You reached it after a 15-minute drive through the woods and some of its many rooms were said to be haunted. But I'm still waiting for my first paranormal experience!
BEAUTIFULLY SERENE
Sinaia and Sibui where we shot initially, are small towns, beautiful but boring after sundown. I was writing my book, The Kiss of Life: How a Superhero and my Son Defeated Cancer, so scribbling furiously between shots and burning the treadmill early morning and after pack-up. But Bucarest, the capital city and the sixth largest city in the EU, has its clubs and restaurants. I went out a couple of nights but if I go to Romania on vacation, it'd be for the sking and winter sports.
BOLLYWOOD CALLING
We had a line crew, and they were of big help. The Romanians are friendly, hardworking and professional, interested in world cinema and familiar with Bollywood because Akshay Kumar filmed a song for Singh Is Bliing here and Salman Khan was here for Jai Ho! A gentlman turned up on the sets with some DVDs of my films, including Murder, and was talking of releasing Azhar there.
I was on a strict diet of grilled fish or meat, and with an Indian chef on board, I didn't sample local delicasies like meaty Caltabos, desserts like Amandine, not even my director Vikram Bhatt's birthday cake.
THE LAST GOODBYE
I'd wrapped up the shoot and had a day to explore. That morning, I learnt my mom who was suffering from cancer, had been rushed to the ICU. Just before I boarded the flight, I was told she was gone. I remember nothing of the long journey home but I hope to go back some day...
People don't come to the theatres to watch a kiss-Kriti Kharbanda

Kriti Kharbanda, Raaz franchise's new scream queen, on her Bollywood debut, link-up rumours and why she isn't bidding South films farewell anytime soon
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 11, 2016)
The first meeting with producer Mukesh Bhatt and director Vikram Bhatt allayed her anxieties. “I was excited about the script since I heard it but, for me, it's more about the people I am working with. Mukesh sir and I talked about life and cinema at length, which made me very comfortable, but he didn't say anything about me bagging the film then. I got a call from them four days later, Raaz was happening and I was thrilled,“ Kriti reminisces, saying she liked the first Raaz the most.
Ask her about puckering up to the resident serial kisser, Emraan Hashmi, in her first Hindi film, and Kriti retorts, “Who doesn't kiss on screen today? For me, it's all about emoting correctly. People don't come to the theatres to watch a kiss. It's the story that appeals to them. I would have been apprehensive if anything was forced into the script.“ She admits that she gets spooked easily and is never going to shoot a song sequence in a cemetery again. “After that shoot in Romania, I couldn't sleep for a few days,“ she shivers. Apart from her screen kiss with Emraan, an alleged linkup with her other co-star, Gaurav Arora, have been creating buzz but Kriti is quick to refute it with the clichéd line that “he is a good friend, there is nothing more to that, and we just laughed it off“. She also rubbishes rumours of her dating actor-producer Sumanth Kumar, nephew of Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, saying he is her best friend and like family. “As of now, I am single and only concentrating on my work,“ she says shortly.
Does Raaz mean she's bidding South films goodbye for Bollywood? Kriti insists South films are a priority and she will never give up on them. “In fact, I am currently working on four projects. I would love to do more Hindi films but I am very laid-back that way and wouldn't go looking for more films,“ she admits.
Prod her on Bollywood role models and she says she really likes Kareena Kapoor's performances. “But what I like the most about her is that she doesn't give a damn about the world. And, like her character, Geet, in Jab We Met, main bhi apni favourite hoon,“ she chuckles, adding that Deepika Padukone is another B'town actress she's impressed with.
Presently, the actress is on a lookout for a house in Andheri and plans to move in by August. “I will be shuttling between Bangalore and Mumbai. I was brought up in a very protective environment and have never lived alone so this will be a good learning experience for me,“ she concludes.
Gaurav Arora gets cosy with Kriti Kharbanda on Raaz Reboot sets in Romania?

After Kriti Sanon, Gaurav Arora gets cosy with Kriti Kharbanda, while shooting in sub-zero temperatures
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2016)
Two years later, seems he is not the only actor Kriti is willing to sip coffee with. Mirror has learnt that the 27-year-old actress was cosying up with another Kriti's ex. Gaurav Arora, reportedly Kriti Sanon's ex-boyfriend (Mirror, August 12, 2015), till last week was filming the fourth instalment in the Raaz franchise in Romania with Kriti. He plays a debonair banker heading the East European Finance Consortium, while Emraan Hashmi, without whom a Raaz instalment is incomplete, is a fashion photographer. The shoot flagged off in snow-covered Sinaia, a mountain town in Romania's Prahova county, with Gaurav and Kriti nothing more than cordial co-stars. On January 23, the unit was travelling from Sinaia to Sibiu, a Transylvania town located 200 km away. It was a long journey through the hills in minus 20 degrees. Eyebrows raised when Kriti chose to travel with Gaurav instead of her designated car.
In Sibiu the growing closeness between the two was apparent, with Kriti hanging around on the sets, waiting to have lunch and dinner with Gaurav, keeping him company between shots. Quiz co-producer Mahesh Bhatt on the secret romance and he laughs, “I seem to always let the cat out of the bag, but I believe there are no bags, only cats.“
He admits that he heard the rumours too. “There are stories that play out on the film sets. This is one such story. We are living in the 21st century and when a young man and young woman are pushed together in an unforgiving place, far from home, pushed against the wall by the harshest work schedules, it's not surprising that they're drawn to each other,“ he says, adding that while watching the rushes he noticed a certain electricity between the two. “I thought it was the genius of my director Vikram Bhatt, until I realised that it was a hormonal dance playing out.“
But it was not all love and no war in Romania. During the final schedule in Bucharest, which began on March 2, the unit heard the couple arguing at the top of their voices in the wee hours. “Yes, it reached my ears too and I learnt that all was not well in Romania,“ Bhatt confirms.
However, according to our source, the two quickly patched up before the unit returned to Mumbai on March 14. Kriti flew back to Bangalore for her South commitments while Gaurav is promoting his upcoming film in the city. “Film sets have been cradles for some great romances. We'll have to see if this one has the power to go beyond a shoot. Time will tell,“ Bhatt concludes.
Emraan Hashmi to shoot Raaz Reboot at ‘world’s most haunted forest’ in Romania

The cast and crew of Raaz Reboot, currently shooting in Romania, are ready to put themselves on beta- blockers. For, they are headed to the Hoia Baciu Forest, labelled as the world’s most haunted woods notorious for UFO sightings, disembodied screams, and inexplicable burns left on those who enter. The idea to shoot at the spooky location came from lead actor Emraan Hashmi, we hear.
A source says, “The makers want the film to be look as realistic as possible, and Emraan recently suggested to Vikram (Bhatt, director) that they must shoot at the haunted Hoia Baciu Forest. He had heard that it is also called the Bermuda Triangle of Romania and is associated with paranormal not really kicked about the idea, but Emraan has managed to convince all of them.”
Emraan confirms the story and says, “I had from some of my friends. They shared a lot of experiences and that is when I thought that we should shoot at Hoia Baciu forest.”

While it’s known that Emraan Hashmi plays a vampire in
Raaz Reboot, the latest instalment of the Raaz franchise and that
the film is already on floors, shooting in the freezing locales of
Romania, here’s what you don’t know: they’re shooting there at Emraan’s
suggestion.
The team will be shooting a major portion of their film in the Hoia-Baciu Forest which is situated near Cluj-Napoca in Romania. A source from the team tells us, “Emraan loves reading about haunted places and he came across this story which revolves around people facing unusual situations in the Hoia-Baciu forest. Known for its paranormal activities, this is also called the most haunted forest in the world. And it was reason enough to get Emraan excited.”
After researching a lot about the forest, Emraan immediately called up his director and told him about the stories that he read. The entire team instantly agreed to shoot there as it will also add to the film’s aesthetics. Emraan too felt that the surroundings of the forest will bring out the spooky ambience beautifully on screen. So if the team witnesses something strange while shooting, you know who to blame!

Raaz Reboot team battles the winter cold in Romania for a frozen secret

The fourth instalment of Raaz took off in Sinaia four days ago with Emraan Hashmi and Kriti Kharbanda facing the camera for a scene which has them chatting in a hotel lobby. It appears in the second half. They look warm and comfortable, which is far from how it really is. Emraan, who is returns to the franchise three years after Raaz 3D, describes the climate shock, saying "straight out of the pan and into the refrigerator".
It's winter in Romania and director Vikram Bhatt is filming in sub-zero temperatures. "The hands freeze in 30 seconds," he says, drawing closer to the heater. "A decade ago, I shot Elaan in the snow but it was not so bad. On Monday it was minus 18, Emmi is frozen and so is Kriti," Vikram laughs.
He is all praise for the local crew who are hospitable and helpful, teaching their 'brave' Indian counterparts how to survive the Transylvania winter. "They are telling us what food to eat and how we can protect ourselves from the blizzards and biting cold. The winter wear we brought with us from Mumbai packed up at the hotel reception," Vikram admits. Now, it's Tuica and Palinca alcoholic beverages distilled from plums for the B-townies.
Kriti makes her Bollywood debut in Raaz Reboot. Vikram describes her as a good actress. "Having done many films in the South makes it easier for her," he adds.
Gaurav Arora who makes his debut in Vikram's Love Games plays a debonair banker who heads the East European Finance Consortium in Raaz Reboot. "The joke amongst the crew is Gaurav jab ayega thand main uski band bajegi. He is carrying something or the other for everyone since he is arriving late," laughs the director. Emraan plays a fashion photographer who has rehabilitated himself after a stint with drugs and alcohol abuse, not to mention a nasty temper. "The point being is the seemingly good bad or is the seemingly bad good," he says enigmatically, adding that this Raaz looks like none of the films they've made before. "It's a whole new and white world. Fabulous, it better reboot!" he signs off.
Raaz 4 to go on floors in Romania in Dec; Emraan Hashmi might be the main villain?

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 14, 2015)
Three years after Raaz 3D,
the fourth instalment of the horror franchise is gearing up to kick off
in Romania during Christmas. It will be a hat-trick for Emraan Hashmi,
the heroine is yet to be finalised.
Confirming this Mahesh Bhatt told Mirror, “Yes, Raaz Reboot will roll in Europe towards the year end. Vikram Bhatt is currently in South Africa filming Love Games but the screenplay is locked. It's a horror-cum-love story, which needs snow. Snow has a certain texture which will take it into a different spatial world which is different from any of the earlier films.“
The film was earlier supposed to go on the floors in the first quarter of this year and filmed in UK, US and parts of Mumbai. But a source close to the production told Mirror that the theme lies in snow-clad Romania. “It is a different take on horror and will be shot like an international film, adds the source. The film will open on June 1 next year."
Raaz took off in 2002 with Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu playing a couple who is desperate to save their marriage and move into a new house in Ooty, only to find themselves in the grips of a ghostly conspiracy.
Seven years later, the sequel directed by Mohit Suri, Raaz: The Mystery Continues, drew the Bhatts blue-eyed boy, Emraan Hashmi, into the franchise. He played a painter whose art predicts the future of a model (played by Kangana Ranaut).
This was followed by Raaz 3D, on September 7, 2012, which projected in 3D, brought the original director, Vikram Bhatt, and Bipasha back to the 'Secret' series. Bipasha excelled as a fading movie star, a prisoner of fame, who uses black magic to destroy her younger rival, Esha Gupta, and hold on to her love, Emraan Hashmi.
Vikram Bhatt, who has been posting a story a day on Facebook and Instagram, has, for the first time, penned the narrative. The Bhatts are careful not to divulge any details that could give away the suspense. However, buzz is, Emraan, is the villain of the story, this time. Prod Mahesh on this and he quips, “Well, there's no smoke without fire.“
After the success of Murder (2004) and Murder 2 (2011), it was a given that Emraan would kill to be in Part 3. But he made way for Randeep Hooda in the Valentine Day-release and the film, which marked the directorial debut of Mukesh Bhatt's son, Vishesh, tanked. There were many reasons given for his absence, from date clashes to wanting some changes in the script. But the actor himself had rationalised that he believed a franchise could be at best stretched to a trilogy. After Part 3, he believed, that it was better to experiment with a new franchise than get lazy with an old one and dilute the brand. However, he's obviously changed his mind about Raaz 4.
Mahesh Bhatt has the last word, “There can be no Raaz without Emraan. And this year, Raaz Reboot will be a quantum leap forward, both in terms of content and presentation, from the previous film.“
89-year-old woman comes to the rescue on Singh Is Bliing sets in Romania

Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 23, 2015)
Akshay Kumar, who has been filming his comic caper Singh Is Bliing in Romania, returned to Mumbai this week after wrapping up the action-packed climax in the countryside of Transylvania.
Mirror has learnt that during one of the scenes which required Akshay to fight off a baddie, who incidentally was his Romanian trainer, his suit tore. "It was a suit tailored to match his turban and the sleeve was ripped off. There was no way the shoot could progress without that suit of arms. The production team panicked because time was precious," revealed a source from the sets of the film.
That's when an 89-year-old woman who was watching the shoot from the sidelines came to the Bollywood's knight's rescue by stitching up his ragged armour. She was a local who lived in the neighbourhood. She ran back home and lugging her sewing machine returned to the location. Within minutes, the jacket was patched up and the shooting resumed.
A stitch in time, definitely saved a lot more than nine lives this time.
