THE TIMES OF INDIA (March 8, 2022)
New Delhi: India’s public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Monday said it has tied up with OTT platform Yupp TV to widen the reach of Doordarshan India in newer regions, including the Middle East, US, UK and Australia.
As a result of the agreement, DD India, the government said, will be able to “put forth India’s perspective on various international developments on global platforms”.
The agreement between Yupp TV and Prasar Bharati is part of the broadcaster’s “vision” to expand the global reach of Doordarshan’s DD India and to showcase India’s culture and values to the world.
“With this, DD India is now available on the OTT platform of Yupp TV in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand,” it added.

‘IAMAI Assurance To Self-Regulate Content Was Not Adequate’
Swati Mathur (THE TIMES OF INDIA; February 7, 2021)
New Delhi: Responding to a string of questions by Lok Sabha MPs on TRP manipulation and regulation of OTT content, information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar said the government is taking affirmative action and will notify new guidelines in each case.
Javadekar said assurances given to the ministry by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) to develop a self-regulatory mechanism for Over The Top (OTT) digital content “did not give adequate cognisance to content prohibited under law and there were issues of conflict of interest”.
He also said the ministry held several consultations with OTT platforms and IAMAI following complaints.
“In August 2020, the IAMAI had informed the ministry that a self-regulatory mechanism had been developed for the OTT platforms. On examination it was felt that the mechanism proposed by IAMAI did not give adequate cognisance to content prohibited under law and there were issues of conflict of interest, which were communicated to IAMAI in September, 2020,”
Javadekar said. On TRP manipulations, Javadekar said while the BARC Disciplinary Council said it took action to maintain panel sanctity and filed 11 FIRs against those who manipulated samples, the ministry appointed a committee that made recommendations on measurement methodology, and structural changes in the composition of rating agencies and audits, among other things.
“Existing guidelines have provisions like methodology for audience measurement, panel selection, viewing platform secrecy and privacy, data analysis, transparency and complaint redressal mechanism… essential for a robust, transparent and accountable rating system in India. Notwithstanding, based on the report of the committee headed by CEO, Prasar Bharati along with recommendations of TRAI, present guidelines are being analysed/evaluated vis-à-vis shortcomings, if any,” he said.
The minister said the government will notify new uplinking and downlinking guidelines for private channels. “Reference was received from Prasar Bharati regarding reception of some channels of private broadcasters on Set Top Boxes of DD Free Dish subscribers which were not part of channels downlinkable from that platform. “This has arisen due to co-location of signals and non-mandatory requirement for encryption of signals of a Free-to-Air TV Channel. The ministry proposes to address this issue in the new uplinking and downlinking guidelines for private channels to be notified by the government,” he said.

News and film channels have shown the maximum growth; in GECs, Ramayan, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Khatron Ke Khiladi are superhits again
Himesh Mankad (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 4, 2020)
On March 25, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day national lockdown due to Coronavirus, the entertainment industry came to a standstill, with the exception of TV. As TV tracking expert Shailesh Kapoor informs, there has been a spike of 42 per cent in TV viewing. “News and film channels have shown the maximum growth. GECs (General Entertainment Channels) haven’t grown much because they are running out of original content,” he shares.
There has been an increase in the overall consumption of films across the country, with Sony Max, Star Gold and Zee Cinema leading the race. “Star Gold benefitted through the world TV premiere of Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War, which premiered on the same day as Janta Curfew. Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak also premiered in the same week on Star Plus,” informs Shailesh. Meanwhile, Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Saath Saath Hain continued to grab eyeballs 21 years after its release. Sajid Nadiadwala’s more recent comic caper, Housefull 4, is another hit, with consistently high ratings despite repeat runs.On the GECs, Rohit Shetty’s Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, with a bank of original episodes, is the top show while Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues its historic run despite repeat telecasts. “Sab TV is the only GEC channel that has shown a significant growth during the lockdown because of Taarak Mehta’s repeat value,” says Shailesh.
The other TV shows that are doing well are Kumkum Bhagya and Kundali Bhagya on Zee TV, Naagin 4 and Choti Sarrdaarni on Colors and Kasautii Zindagii Kay on Star Plus. Shashi Shekhar, CEO, Prasar Bharati, recently tweeted that Ramayan re-runs on DD National have recorded the biggest rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015.

MUMBAI MIRROR (May 22, 2017)
Kajol, who was nominated
last year to be a part-time member of the Prasar Bharati board, which
oversees the functioning of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, for
three years, may lose her post after repeatedly missing meetings this
year. According to the provisions of the Prasar Bharati Act, members who
are absent without taking permission for three consecutive board
meetings are understood to have “vacated the office“.
Reportedly, the Information and Broadcasting ministry (I&B) has sent a letter to Prasar Bharati and is looking into the matter. Kajol's repeated absence had also figured in a recent meeting of the board.
The actress's spokesperson said Kajol's been unable to attend the last three-four meetings “due to prior professional commitments and a family emergency on medical grounds through most of this year“.
