The film has become the second highest grossing film in all circuits of India barring Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab which are the three biggest circuits of India. The film even got tax exemptions from week two onwards in Maharashtra and UP but still the overall business in Mumbai and Delhi / UP has remained lower than RUSTOM and AIRLIFT. The tax exemptions and weak competition is giving the film a better run that what would have been expected after the falls in the weekdays of the first week. The way the film is going it is going to be the second highest grosser of 2016 in all circuits barring the big three of Mumbai, Delhi /UP and East Punjab. In Mumbai circuit Gujarat has let it down while in the North it is Delhi city and East Punjab which have under performed due to a weak hero. UP in North has done better after the tax exemptions. Its a dull phase at the box office but because of practically no competition this film is getting benefit as its the only decent film being screened. The tax exemptions are also benefiiting the film as Maharashtra is holding much better than it normally would and UP is doing far more business than Delhi city and its was a lesser gap in the first week. The film can also lead the box ofice next week as far as Hindi films are concerned which may help it to a 120 crore nett plus total. The dubbed version has grossed a further 6 crore nett. It is the fourth highest second week collections of the year after SULTAN, AIRLIFT and RUSTOM but the drop is also 73% which seems okay but the film went tax free in UP and Maharashtra in week two and on top had holidays in week two as well but still a big fall is there. If we compare the GROSS collections with HOUSEFULL 3 which has the fifth highest second week total of 2016 they are lower. The second week GROSS of HOUSEFULL 3 is around 31.50 crore while M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY is 29.50 crore  Though obviously the Nett figures of HOUSEFULL 3 are lower as there were no tax exemptions. Basically the film has trended below HOUSEFULL 3 which also had a weak trend. The trend in the third week is better than the second week though there is no support of holidays like in the second week. It is pre Diwali period period but all the films around it are doing very poor which is allowing M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY to benefit. Tax exemption in UP and Maharashtra is also a big benefit. M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY (Hindi) managed to cross the 100 crore nett mark on monday which is a big achievement for the film going by the face value but not if you look at the costs and initial of the film. The holidays should give it a boost over the next two days and take the second week collections to around 22-23 crore nett giving it 107.50 crore nett total in two weeks. The competition is weak for the next two weeks as far as Hindi films are concerned and it should finish in the 115-120 crore nett range. The dubbed version will add a further 6 crore nett. M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY (Hindi) had a big fall in the second weekend with collections dropping 76% and this was despite being tax free in UP and Maharashtra from the second week onwards The film has still not reached the 100 crore nett mark for the Hindi version despite that huge first weekend. Its Hindi version stands at 99 crore while the dubbed formats are at 5.50 crore nett. There are two holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday which will will boost the collections but the fact is that the film has not really much found appreciation and will scrape through to HIT status but it is mainly due to the Mahendra Singh Dhoni factor rather than the film itself. Overseas was worse than India as it crashed badly adding just about $1 million after its first weekend of $3.25 million. Despite a $3.25 million weekend the film is unlikely to hit the $5 million mark.

The film is tax free in UP and Maharashtra in the second and that is helping the NETT collections. These two states are among the ones which have the highest entertainment tax rates. These tax exemptions will now help the lifetime NETT collections to 115 crore nett plus. A final 115 crore nett total will make it the fourth highest grosser of the year after SULTAN, RUSTOM and AIRLIFT but in terms of GROSS it may still remain below HOUSEFULL 3. Ther Tamil and Telugu versions have fallen very badly in the second week and will finish at around 6-6.25 crore nett after a 5 crore nett week.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY fell heavily on day eight with collections in the 3.25-3.50 crore nett range. The drop is over 80% from day one and the film has also fallen around 25-30% from Thursday. This is with the washout collections of MIRZYA and other releases but if they had collected better as it should have then the drop for M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY could have been more. Still despite the drop it still has the best collections compared to the new releases and 3.35 crore nett for day eight is not great but not bad either. The only problem is how fast the collections have come down which makes it a moderate success rather than a major one which it looked after three days. There are holidays this week for Dusshera and Muharram on Tuesday and Wednesday which should help the film to a 20 crore nett plus second week. Then there are two weeks till Diwali which have no major releases and so the film should hang around and could finish with a final total in the 110-115 crore nett range.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY is finding it tough going on the weekdays with another noticeable drop on Tuesday. The film looked set to be a huge hit with its weekend collections but since Monday the collections are coming down fast. It should scrape through to HIT status due to a weak line up of releases. After the weekend it looked set to be close to 100 crore nett in seven days but now the way it is going it may not even reach there in 10 days. The collections in the North are now actually down to poor levels which will make it tough in the North in week two and that will tell in all India collections as Mumbai comes down in week two anyway compared to circuits in North and Central India. M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY (Hindi) has had a good first week at 84.75 crore nett but its down to the strong weekend which was over 61 crore nett. The collections had a noticeable drop on Monday but they were still healthy at 7.50 crore nett but the problem came after as the film could just not hold on any of the other weekdays which is likely to tell on its second weekend collections. The film also had a Tamil and Telugu version which grossed around 5 crore nett over the first week which is decent considering that it is more than the lifetime business of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO and HAPPY NEW YEAR in the same formats.

The Dhoni brand and cricket factor has helped the film immensely in the South as its an out performing market especially Mysore which should not be the case for a film about a boy from the interiors of the country. Even West Bengal is similar as the Dhoni brand and cricket factor helped it put up good collections. The problem for the film has come in North where East Punjab is at a similar level to Mysore and when that happens to a film which is not based in South India then it means the potential of the film is unlikely to be unfulfilled. The collections in Delhi/UP are also not that good comparatively though Mumbai circuit has done well.

Basically the film has gone through due to the initial which came due to curiosity for the Dhoni story and a good theatrical promo but the film has turned out to be not as good as the audience expected after the theatrical and appreciation for the film is limited. It remains to be seen where the film goes as far as its lifetime business is concerned and the business today (Day 8) will probably answer that.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY dropped around 65% on Monday but still the collections were fairly good at 7 crore nett plus. The total so far is 68.75 crore nett which again is very healthy. The problem is this big drop in collections. Even a market like Delhi/UP which holds up well on Monday has shown a considerable fall though that could be due to the film not really getting the numbers over the weekend in the North as it did in other markets. It is just not North but the drops are there in all the markets. The Tamil and Telugu version has also had a huge drop. The film really has to hold well on Tuesday because if was to fall 15-20% it would really start to struggle and then emerge just a weekend film. The first week is looking to close at 84 crore nett although if Tuesday can really hold it can go higher. The next few days and crucially the eight day will determine the lifetime business. It should comfortably cross 100 crore nett but it looked like getting a much higher total after the weekend.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY has scored a fantastic first weekend grossing around 62 crore nett in its Hindi format over the first weekend. There was a Tamil and Telugu version of the film which has grossed around 3.75 crore nett which is also pretty decent and better than films like HAPPY NEW YEAR and PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO. The collections of the film are excellent all over over barring North India. In North India the film has done good business but has not performed as well as it has in other parts of the country. Comparing with other films, the weekend is in the same range as films like BANG BANG (Holiday release) and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI. It is also a bit unlucky that the huge Gandhi Jayanti holiday fell on Sunday which gave a minimal boost as Sunday is a holiday anyway. The weekend ensures a HIT film despite high costs and the next few days will tell how big of a hit the film can be and whether the industry gets the second BLOCKBUSTER of the year. The trend of the film is better than the weekend numbers suggest as the film did have capacity constraints at major multiplexes due to the length of the film. So although there is not much growth over the weekend the film has recorded high occupancy rates which should mean that the film will hold on the weekdays. 

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY had another excellent day as it collected close to 19 crore nett for its Hindi version. There is a drop from day one but it is minor and would only be an issue if the film had lower collections. The film is doing very well across India and is already a HIT film with potential to go higher. The weekend of the film is on course to beat films like HOUSEFULL 3 and RUSTOM by a big margin. The very earthy and Indian feel of the theatrical did give the film the potential to be the TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS of the year and it may happen depending on what the weekdays bring. That film was driven by North India as it was set there, here it will be other circuits driving the film. Obviously the profits will not be like TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS due to high costs here but like that film it can be a big grosser without face value which happens rarely.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY had a huge first day grossing around 20 crore nett in Hindi making it the second highest opening day of the year. The film did phenomenally well over due though the under performance came in North India where the cast factor probably came into play. The film has done fantastic business in Mumbai and South while the Central India markets (Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI)  also contributed very well due to the small town feel of the film. The cricket factor aided the film in markets like Mysore and West Bengal. The film in Mysore has collected almost the same as what it has in Delhi city and East Punjab while for a film a like SULTAN the numbers are double in Delhi city and East Punjab as compared to Mysore. East Punjab had a Punjabi film for competition which has done well.

The Dhoni brand and the theatrical trailer having a very earthy and Indian feel to it has contributed to this huge first day number and now the film just has to hold at these levels to be a big success. The film can probably afford to even have a drop on day two but that will hit the trend of the film which will hurt the eventual lifetime total of the film. If the film was to go up on Saturday then the film will be able to go anywhere considering the limited number of major releases till Diwali. Never has a film with no face value and so so music taken such an initial in recent times. The theatrical was good which suggested a good opening but brand Dhoni took it to another level all together.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY grossed around 6.50 crore nett in Mumbai, 3.50 crore nett in Delhi /UP, 1.65 crore nett in East Punjab and 1.55 crore nett in Mysore. Barring Delhi/UP, East Punjab, West Bengal, the figures were the second highest of the year in all other circuits.
