LAAPATAA LADIES will be the biggest beneficiary of the dull period post Eid as it has maintained weekly collections at similar levels post Eid running on around 100 cinemas on average per week. The total of the film will go over 20 crore nett this week.

The film has found some appreciation among the gentry audience but a break out is missing and for that it needed a better holds earlier in its run. The drop in the second week probably sealed its fate as it it took it down to low levels.

A film like 12TH FAIL maintained similar collections over the first two weeks which allowed holds at higher levels. The box office profile of the film though is very similar to 12TH FAIL with the same places doing better business. Generally its the metros where the film scores and then you have those few high end multiplexes in places like Lucknow, Indore, Patna etc,

The out performance for LAAPATAA LADIES is probably Kolkata which will take West Bengal to a near 2 crore nett number. This will be just 30% down on 12TH FAIL when the all India number is 65% down on 12TH FAIL. Overall its a respectable end for the film as with just 10 crore nett in two weeks, it has managed to reach 20 crore nett though a lot is down to lack of releases which has probably added around 2-3 crore nett which is a decent amount for this film.

LAAPATAA LADIES has slowly managed to get a respectable total of 18 crore nett plus as it meandered along after the drop in the second week on low collections and is still running. The numbers look better due to the fiasco of big films like MAIDAAN and BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN as these big films are doing 50-60 crore nett and this small film will do 19-20 crore nett.

The film has been well supported in the PVR Inox chain and will come out with around 75% of the all India business as from the first day the film had better showcasing here. This is not just compared to non nationals but the other national chain Cinepolis as well.

The film has found some appreciation with the niche gentry audience and off course the industry and media but was not really able to break out further as today you get the time and run at the box office to get numbers but public appreciation has to be there. 

The film looks like a common man Indian heartland tale but the issue is that it only reaches the niche gentry audience while the people whom the actual story is about don't watch and don't care. This even holds true for a genuine HIT film like 12TH FAIL as again, its that niche upper to upper middle class audience despite being a story of the common man.  

Its like mainly the rich or more well off watch these films while the audiences to whom these characters will be more relatable are just not interested. This is where a film like ZARA HATKE ZARA BACHKE deserves some credit as it actually reaches out somewhat to that real audience. Gone are the days of Rajhshris when these sort of stories without the stars reached out to the wider audience and that too when there were only single screens.

A few films released weeks back are managing to keep alive and will now end with respectable numbers at the box office as they run post the Eid releases. This made little difference to LAAPATAA LADIES as its run was nearing an end by Eid anyway.

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR would not have got hardly anything post Eid if the Eid releases were upto the mark. but now they look like heading for 30 crore and 25 crore finishes which looked tough earlier. LAAPATAA LADIES should finish at over 18 crore nett.

None of these films can be called successful but at least they have got some numbers up on the board and that is something in todays time. Today, smaller films have more of a chance to break out if there is something in them due to the lack of releases which gives time at the cinemas. At the same time, none of these three could manage that like what HANUMAN did earlier this year.

LAAPATAA LADIES is very niche and limited to the bigger cinemas (mainly PVR Inox chain) in urban centres. MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR are all Mumbai circuit centric with both films comfortably over 15 crore nett in the circuit. The former is strong Maharashtra with a little support in Gujarat while the latter is majorly performing Maharashtra. Business in North, East and Central is awful for both films which is why they could not break out.

LAAPATAA LADIES had a poor first week as it collected 5.75 crore nett. These films are about what happens post Monday but the collections were just not good enough and too low as simply the Monday has to be on worst case as good as the Friday when initial numbers itself are so low.

The film had media support which maybe before the pandemic may have helped this sort of film especially when the national press supports. But today, the spectrum of reviews is so wide and there are thousands of them that it has become irrelevant and does not help these type of movies like it used to. Not that it would have mattered here as the appreciation is not there but numbers could have been a little better if the media support helped.

The collections did not drop in the Mon - Thu period so the film can meander along in the second week but with just under 6 crore nett first week, there is nowhere to go.
