KESARI is still running in its seventh week with collections standing at a little under 152 crore nett. It is the second highest NETT grosser of 2019 after URI but considering AVENGERS: ENDGAME will collect around 250 crore nett plus from just the Hindi circuits (not counting South) the the figures of all Hindi films do not look impressive.

KESARI is the second biggest HIT of the year after URI and continues the consistent box office record of Akshay Kumar over the last few years. KESARI is now mainly collecting in the Delhi/UP circuit. In East Punjab it is the highest grosser of the year and its the only circuit where URI is not the top film. This is counting Hindi films only and not AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

KESARI will finish in the 152 crore nett range as there is maybe just 10-20 lakh more to come.

KESARI has crossed the 150 crore nett mark in its fifth week with collections set to be around 151 crore at the end of the fifth week. The film has crossed the business of TOTAL DHAMAAL despite having regional restrictions. The film was a good commercial content film but due to it being overtly regional it meant that it became a metro/A centre film in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bengal and Nizam/Andhra while in other circuits it did well in all centres.

There is a thing in the industry that these sardaar film have huge potential and it mainly comes due to the historic success of films like GADAR and BORDER but its not actually the case as outside these two films there have been many made but not many have actually done huge numbers. This is because outside GADAR and BORDER they find it tough in the West, South and East.

There is always this talk about Akshay Kumar getting a 200 crore film especially among his fans but this number of KESARI ensures its around the corner. The volume of releases makes it harder for the real big number but with KESARI doing 150 plus, then universal good commercial content will easily go above 200 crore nett as if you double the Mumbai and East business of KESARI then you are at 200 crore nett already. The bigger commercial films are going to come over the next 18 months and the dates are correct and if they are liked like KESARI, then 200 crore nett will easily be crossed.

KESARI managed to show 20-25% growth coming from a part holiday on Friday. The film is now the top grosser of the year in East Punjab as it beats the numbers of URI. This is the only circuit where it will be the top grosser and that is due to heavy local feel of the film which is a positive for East Punjab but will be a negative in some other circuits.

THE TASHKENT FILES collected 45 lakhs nett apprx on its second Friday which is more than the first Friday. The film has now crossed the 4 crore nett mark. The collections are low but the film has managed to get a run at the box office and that is all you can do when you open to such low collections. Also the audience is very limited for these type of films. If the film can run for a few weeks it can put up a respectable final number.

The film has held well post the first week and is now easily the highest grossing Akshay Kumar film outside 2.0 in terms of NETT collections. ROWDY RATHORE is the highest in terms of GROSS collections and its unlikely to reach that as KESARI has a GROSS of 174.50 crore after five weeks while ROWDY RATHORE is 180 crore. The film is still in the theatres with a show or two in the bigger multiplexes. So it will comfortably go over the 150 crore nett mark and become the second highest NETT grosser of 2019.

The film has not seen this sort of growth on Saturday till date but it is getting benefit of being the only film running with decent number of shows that has been liked. The others like ROMEO AKBAR WALTER, HELLBOY and SHAZAM. The film is now at 146 crore nett and should go over 150 crore nett and TOTAL DHAMAAL to be second highest NETT grosser of the year. The GROSS figures will remain less than TOTAL DHAMAAL as that film has a higher ratio of business coming from Gujarat and Maharashtra where the service charges are higher and the former has a local tax state also.

BADLA collected 2.25 crore nett apprx in week five to take its total to 85 crore nett. The film could still have a crore or two more to come. The film has now crossed the business of ANDHADHUN in Mumbai circuit also and that film was mainly a Mumbai/Pune HIT. The collections of BADLA are still a little over than ANDHADHUN in Mumbai city and Pune but it has better collections in practically every other city in India.

KESARI is heading for a third week of around 11 crore nett as it picked up 1 crore nett apprx on the third Monday. The total collections for the film so far are 141 crore nett. The drop in the third week will be in the 60-65% range.

The film had grossed 35 crore nett in Mumbai, 37 crore nett in Delhi/UP and and 19.50 crore nett in East Punjab so far. Rajasthan is 8.50 crore nett while the traditionally weak West Bengal and Nizam/Andhra for a heavy Punjabi film collected 6 crore nett.

The film will cross TOILET - EK PREM KATHA in all circuits except Mumbai while 2.0 (Hindi) will cross only in East Punjab and South (this is because of a limited release of 2.0 in Hindi due to regional versions being screened).

KESARI had another good weekend as it collected 7.25 crore nett over its third weekend. The film has a total of 140 crore nett in eleven days and should comfortably be another double digit week for the film. The business in North India (Delhi/UP and East Punjab) has crossed 55 crore nett now while Mumbai circuit is around 34 crore nett.

The film had initially scored in Gujarat/Saurashtra as far as the Mumbai circuit was concerned but now the bulk of the collections are coming from Mumbai city, Thane and Pune. The numbers are very good in Mumbai and South for what is essentially a Punjabi film. Even West Bengal is continuing to collect and is now in fact better than TOTAL DHAMAAL. This market has very few takers for the Punjabi type of films.

A SUPER HIT  like SINGH IS KINGG fared poorly in West Bengal and so have all the other very Punjabi type of films over the last 15 years or so.

KESARI did well in week two with collections near the 30 crore nett mark. The fall from week one is over 70% but that is taking the extended holiday first week so in real value the drop is less. The total collections of the film are now 135 crore nett making it the second highest Akshay Kumar grosser after 2.0 (Hindi).

The film edged past the numbers of TOILET - EK PREM KATHA and ROWDY RATHORE in terms of NETT collections. It will probably need another week or so to go past the GROSS numbers of these films. The footfalls of ROWDY RATHORE wont be reached which remains the biggest blockbuster of Akshay Kumar alongside the 1994 film MOHRA.

KESARI will have ROMEO AKBAR WALTER for competition this week but should remain pretty steady and gradually push itself towards the 150 crore nett mark.

KESARI is now holding strongly as the second Monday saw a drop of less than 25% from the second Friday as it collected 3.25 crore nett. This takes the total of the film to 128 crore nett plus. The second week business of the film is crossing 30 crore nett.

The second week is lower than TOTAL DHAMAAL as that got the advantage of a holiday but the business tomorrow will tell how it compares with that film in week two. TOTAL DHAMAAL collected 3 crore nett on its second Tuesday. The film is on course to beat the lifetime collections of TOTAL DHAMAAL as it crosses 150 crore nett but a lot will depend on the third Friday when there are a couple of releases.

KESARI consolidated on its second Friday number with a good jump on Saturday to collect 6.50 crore nett and take its total to almost 117 crore nett. The film is a HIT with SUPER HIT business in Delhi/UP and East Punjab.

Despite being very good in North the film has stabilized in the other circuits. Places like Maharashtra, West Bengal and Nizam/Andhra which the under performers are doing decent business even in the second weekend. The second weekend so far is similar to TOTAL DHAMAAL though the week will not be as TOTAL DHAMAAL had the advantage of a holiday on Monday which meant huge collections on Sunday and Monday. KESARI had a good second weekend of 19 crore nett to take its ten day total to 125 crore nett. The film held well on Friday and the had solid growth over the weekend. The film will be the highest Akshay Kumar grosser by the end of the week if we take out 2.0 (Hindi) which was a film from the Tamil film industry. The growth last Sunday was muted for the film but this week the growth was there.

The big plus for the film is actually the business outside Delhi and Punjab as these were likely to do very well due to the local feel but you cant get 150 crore nett apprx from just these areas. It has to do business in other parts of the country which it has managed to do. The lifetime business of KESARI will be be very similar to TOTAL DHAMAAL.

KESARI had a good hold on the second Friday as it collected 4.25 crore nett to take its total to 110 crore nett. The film is doing well all over now with excellent business in Delhi/UP and East Punjab with Rajasthan and Bihar being next best. The film has held strongly at multiplexes all over while business in single circuits outside UP and Bihar is down

Mumbai circuit which was crucial for the film is steady and will eventually put up a pretty good number. If this circuit had done better then the film would have gone towards that 2.0 (Hindi) number but now it should do similar business to TOTAL DHAMAAL.

KESARI just needs to consolidate this good hold with good growth over the weekend which will lead to a good second week. It may not be to the level of TOTAL DHAMAAL as that had holidays in the second week but KESARI has a healthy lead from that film in the first week due to it being an extended first week.

KESARI had a good extended first week collecting 106 crore nett. The film had a strong opening weekend though the Sunday growth could have been more but it held steady over the weekdays and should have good collections over the next few weeks.

There was a drop in Maharashtra, South and West Bengal on Monday but that was because these areas are less receptive to films which have a heavy Punjabi feel but it had scored well over the extended weekend in these markets so the drop was always likely. The collections settled at a lower levels towards the end of the week and should put up healthy numbers in these markets as well where the reports were not so good.

The film has done very well in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, CI and Bihar, especially the first two, but that was sort of expected. The film will be a HIT as long as the second Friday does not see a big drop in collections.

The other film of the week, MARD KO DARD NAHIN HOTA, is a poor fare with business of around 2.15 crore nett in week one. It was a weird action film which just had no chance at the box office.

KESARI held up very well on Wednesday dropping just 7-8% from the previous day as it collected 6.50 crore nett to take its total to 100 crore nett apprx. Wednesday is the day where the other big releases this year so far had seen their biggest drops. There was hardly any drop in business at the major multiplexes while a little drop came from mass centres where the film was doing well. The film has the highest first week (7 Days) collections of 2019 till date.

The film mainly saw drops in collections where it is strong like Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Bihar and Rajasthan while Mumbai and South recorded similar collections to Wednesday. The film had a good weekend in Mumbai and South for a very Northern sardaar based film and then saw a drop on the weekdays but it could be stabilizing there now at a lower levels.

The Friday collections will tell where this film is going but if it trends like Wednesday over the next two days then the film will have a good long run.
