JAGGA JASOOS followed the same pattern of last week with Saturday showing big growth but Sunday not really following up. This is because of the demographics of the audience where the target audience goes to theatres in limited numbers on Sunday evening leaving it with limited Sunday growth. The film grossed a little under 5.75 crore nett in its second weekend which is a drop 80% plus.
This total for the film is 48.75 crore nett and after two weeks the film should be at 51 crore nett and then possibly another 2-3 crore nett can be expected. The business of JAGGA JASOOS till date is as follows.
Week One - 43,12,00,000
Friday - 1,15,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Second Weekend - 5,65,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 48,77,00,000
The Hollywood release DUNKIRK did well over the first weekend especially in Mumbai and South. But again as its mainly metro business the growth was limited on Sunday. The film has only been released in English and so 11 crore nett is a good number but it remains to be seen if it can sustain. The first weekend business of DUNKIRK is as follows.
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday - 4,00,00,000
Sunday - 4,25,00,000
TOTAL - 11,25,00,000

JAGGA JASOOS fell further on day eight as it grossed in the 1.25 crore nett region and this takes its eight day business to around 45 crore nett. The film will show some growth over the weekend but with such a low day eight figure it does not really matter much.
The film has fared poorly across all circuits with Mumbai city performing best. The film will cross the 50 crore nett mark but fall short of the 55 crore nett mark. The collections of JAGGA JASOOS till date are as follows
Week One - 43,75,00,000
Friday (Second) - 1,25,00,000
TOTAL - 45,00,00,000
MOM has also fared poorly at the box office though it has been holding collections at low levels after the first week. The film grossed around 35-40 lakhs nett on its third Friday and is looking at lifetime business of a around 31-32 crore nett which is similar to KAHAANI which was off a similar genre.

JAGGA JASOOS had a poor first week as it collected 43.75 crore nett which is the seventh highest first week collection of the year. The film had a fair weekend for what the film was worth but the inevitable happened on Monday and basically the film crashed over the weekdays. The film is not a huge disaster like BOMBAY VELVET but is still a big flop.
The failure of the film is similar to MOHENJO DARO and even the lifetime business of the film will be similar though MOHENJO DARO did release with a clash against RUSTOM. Below are the top ten opening weeks of 2017. (All collections for Hindi language only)
1. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion - 1,46,67,00,000 (ALL TIME RECORD)
2. Tubelight - 1,02,57,00,000
3. Raees - 1,02,00,00,000
4. Jolly LLB 2 - 72,98,00,000
5. Badrinath Ki Dulhania - 71,77,00,000
6. Kaabil - 58,92,00,000
7. Jagga Jasoos - 43,75,00,000 apprx
8. Half Girlfriend - 42,96,00,000
9. Sachin - A Billion Dreams - 34,31,00,000
10. Naam Shabana - 26,45,00,000
The lifetime business of the film will be dependent on what sort of number it gets today (second Friday). There will be big growth on Saturday as its audience is mainly the Saturday audience but that will not help its cause anymore. The Overseas business over the first week is a little under $2 million though it missed around 25% business in Gulf as released a day late. The biggest issue with the film is not the story but how its told and actually this the problem with most Hindi films. The audience is game for new stories but as long as they are told in the traditional format they are used to. However Hindi filmmakers pick up stories from a foreign land and then also tell them in a foreign way.

JAGGA JASOOS had a major drop of around 55% on Monday which seals the fate of the film unless there is a some sort of miraculous recovery. The drop was universal and across the board. The smaller circuits were always going to drop and the metros would always find it tough without children and family audience on the weekdays. Its a film for the Saturday audience and will jump big again on Saturday but with the occupancy likely to go down further over the weekdays it won't have the screens in week two for the jump to matter. The business of JAGGA JASOOS for the first four days is as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000
Saturday - 11,00,00,000
Sunday - 12,50,00,000
Monday - 3,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 35,50,00,000
The first week will go to around 43 crore nett, maybe 44 crore nett if it holds up better tomorrow but with the flow of releases in the coming weeks its hardly going to add much after week one. HALF GIRLFRIEND grossed 52.29 crore nett and the film could surpass that but the next one on the list is HINDI MEDIUM at 63,03 crore nett and that seems a very tall order for JAGGA JASOOS. It will mean less business than NEERJA, DEAR ZINDAGI and KAPOOR & SONS which were the top three grossers but they mainly collected in the five metros of Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore.
The Sunday business was critical and it had to be up there towards 14 crore nett rather than 12.50 crore nett. It may just be a 1-1.50 crore nett but makes a huge difference to the trend and also signals the film fetching a wider audience. Its a tough ask for a film of this huge cost to survive on five cities but that is what the film will have to do as the core Hindi film audience has not come on Sunday which was its big chance for some sort of success.

JAGGA JASOOS had a decent weekend of 31.75 crore nett from the point of view what the promos offered but the film has been three years in the making and is well over budget and from this side the collections are low. The film is not a BOMBAY VELVET for two reasons, one is that theatrical is far better and secondly there is digital recovery now which was not there a year or so back. The film is niche and may be more than the regular urban film like DEAR ZINDAGI or NEERJA as this offers nothing little for the mature audience and is mainly for kids. The business of JAGGA JASOOS for the first weekend is as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 11,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 12,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 31,75,00,000 apprx
The film opened low on Friday but picked up well on Saturday which put in the running but Sunday was a downer as although there is around 20% growth, the growth had to come in centres like Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Bhopal etc and these places which are key to long term success for a big budget film but they did not show growth as they should on a Sunday.
The Sunday business was critical and it had to be up there towards 14 crore nett rather than 12.50 crore nett. JAGGA JASOOS showed very good growth of around 30% on its second day as it grossed 11 crore nett apprx. The film performed very well in all the metros and the release which is tight for a cast film but concentrated on big cities helped the collections rise as the film was not played on screens which would have dropped or been flat on day two due to the niche content. This is where a studio who releases their own film is a plus as if given to independent distributors the release is harder to control and this film could have been released on 2500 or 3000 screens instead of nearly 1800 screens. The business of JAGGA JASOOS for the first two days is as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 11,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 19,25,00,000 apprx
The Saturday business puts the film in the running after a low Friday but as the film does look mainly for children due to the treatment and that to for the metros, it could be that its getting extra boost on Saturday as urban centres do best on Saturday. The next two days will be all important for the film.

JAGGA JASOOS grossed 8.25-8.50 crore nett apprx on its first day which is a low figure for a film with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. The film did not show much of a pick up post the 6pm shows as the film despite being a content film which should grow is not for that adult evening audience. Hence it remained pretty much flat in the evenings. The film is mainly for children who watch English children channels and this should enable growth on Saturday and Sunday as the families and kids come out in metros but the film needed much wider appreciation to recover its huge costs.
The film was best in Mumbai city and Bangalore while the Hindi belt hardly collected. The film is not a BOMBAY VELVET as the film will get some sort of weekend audience but not being BOMBAY VELVET is hardly an achievement. The opening is the seventh best of the year but well short of a double digit opening which is a must when there is the presence of stars. Out of the big films the opening is better than KAABIL only. The opening is lower than ROY which featured Ranbir Kapoor in a guest role and managed a 9.39 crore nett opening. BARFI which had the same director opened to a similar figure to JAGGA JASOOS (8.18 crore nett).
The Hollywood release WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES fared poorly with around 2 crore nett coming on day one. The film was released on around 1000 screens and this a very poor return for the film.
