FAST & FURIOUS 8 had a fair second weekend of 11 crore nett. Although the drop is there the collections are still more than double of the new release NOOR. The total of the film stands at 77.50 crore nett after its second weekend and it should finish up at around 85 crore nett assuming the film manages to get a screening or two at multiplexes when BAAHUBALI 2 releases on Friday. It will leave it 12 crore nett behind its predecessor FAST & FURIOUS. The business of FAST & FURIOUS till date is as follows.
First Week - 66,47,00,000 (8 Days plus PP)
Second Weekend - 11,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 77,47,00,000
BEGUM JAAN had a big fall in the second weekend as collections were nearly 85% down from the previous weekend. The film is going to stay below 20 crore nett for lifetime business which is a poor result. The WORLDWIDE theatrical share will not even be 10 crore. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
First Week - 15,89,00,000
Second Weekend - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 17,64,00,000
Fast & Furious 8 collects 67.75 cr in 9 days+paid previews; Begum Jaan 15.65 cr in 8 days

FAST & FURIOUS 8 continued to lead at the box office with collections of 2.50 crore nett. This was double the business of the new Hindi release NOOR despite FAST & FURIOUS 8 being on its second Friday and that too after an extended first week. The hold is fair and it should cross 10 crore nett for its second weekend and the film will probably come out the fourth highest grossing film ever for Hollywood in India. The business of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date is as follows.
First Week - 65,25,00,000 (8 Days plus PP)
Second Week - 2,50,00,000 (Friday)
TOTAL - 67,75,00,000
BEGUM JAAN had a huge drop on day eight with collections being down close to 90%. There is no doubting the film is a big flop but the collections do look better this week considering what has happened to NOOR which is a similar film but is not even doing half the business of BEGUM JAAN. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
First Week - 15,25,00,000
Second Week - 40,00,000
TOTAL - 15,65,00,000
Begum Jaan collects 15.50 cr in Week 1; Fast & Furious 8 65.25 cr

BEGUM JAAN grossed a poor 15.50 crore nett in its first week. The film took a low first day even though it was a holiday and then the growth story is never going to be there coming off a holiday. The weekend remained dull and the weekdays saw very low collections. The film does not carry much hope for the second week despite competition not really being there. This may give it an outside chance to crawl to 20 crore nett but that will be it. There is hardly any revenue coming from Overseas and with this sort of of low theatrical revenue there is not much hope with television.
FAST & FURIOUS 8 is a SUPER HIT film as it grossed 65.25 crore nett in its extended first week of eight days plus paid previews. Even if we take the seven day business it is the third highest opening week ever for Hollywood after THE JUNGLE BOOK and FAST & FURIOUS 7. The weekdays are not great but not too bad also and it could be the film could still remain the dominant film despite being in its second week as the competition is pretty weak. The film should cross 80 crore nett at least but its run will probably be cut short by one of the most awaited films ever BAAHUBALI 2.

FAST & FURIOUS 8 is a SUPER HIT while BEGUM JAAN is a huge flop. This never used to happen before the 90's. It started to happen occasionally post the 90's but now is happening quite regularly where Hollywood easily trumps the Hindi releases.
FAST & FURIOUS 8 will not reach the level of FAST & FURIOUS 7 but may still get to around 85-88 crore nett which will be around 10% lower than its predecessor while BEGUM JAAN will struggle to reach even 20 crore nett for its lifetime business. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
Friday - 3,50,00,000
Saturday - 3,25,00,000
Sunday - 3,75,00,000
Monday - 1,45,00,000
Tuesday - 1,30,00,000
TOTAL - 13,25,00,000
FAST & FURIOUS 8 looks to be heading towards a 68 crore nett first week. The collections of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 5,50,00,000
Thursday - 9,25,00,000
Friday - 11,25,00,000
Saturday - 10,00,00,000
Sunday - 11,50,00,000
Monday - 5,00,00,000
Tuesday - 4,50,00,000
TOTAL - 57,00,00,000 apprx

FAST & FURIOUS 8 did very good business over its extended five days racking up around 47.50 crore nett. If we take the three day weekend its is the second highest opening ever for a Hollywood release in India behind FAST & FURIOUS 7. The film is a HIT and possibly SUPER HIT depending on how the weekdays hold but there is a negative - it has not matched the last film as far as the initial goes. That film had a four day weekend and if we take like for like be it three or four days the collections remain 4-5 crore nett less.
The collections in most markets across the world (China was an insane $190 million) have set records for the franchise but that has not happened in India. Even the extended 4 days plus paid previews has fallen a little short of the four day weekend of FAST & FURIOUS 7. The collections of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 5,50,00,000
Thursday - 9,25,00,000
Friday - 11,25,00,000
Saturday - 10,00,00,000
Sunday - 11,50,00,000
TOTAL - 47,50,00,000 apprx
----------------------------
FAST & FURIOUS 8 had a good hold on Monday as it grossed 5 crore nett which is a 55% drop from Friday but that was a holiday and on top the film has had an extended run which makes it a solid Monday. The real value drop is probably around 45%. The film now stands at around 52.50 crore nett and the week should be able to cross the 65 crore nett, This will be lower than FAST & FURIOUS 7 which was around 69 crore nett.
The film has done very well with the only problem being that it is unlikely the franchise is going to improve on the last one. The film did not release on as many digital theatres like the last one and this could be one of the reasons that the film will stay below FAST & FURIOUS 7. The collections of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 5,50,00,000
Thursday - 9,25,00,000
Friday - 11,25,00,000
Saturday - 10,00,00,000
Sunday - 11,50,00,000
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 52,50,00,000 apprx
Note - The film has been released as Fast & Furious 8 in India that why it is being reported with that title despite it being called Fate Of the Furious outside India. The title is probably there in India to make sure the franchise factor is noticed by the audience.

FAST & FURIOUS 8 has taken the fourth best opening day ever for a Hollywood release in India with its predecessor FAST & FURIOUS 7 at number one spot. There are three films that have crossed 10 crore nett and this probably would have been fourth if it did not have that half day release on Wednesday.
This brand has the highest opening, the fourth highest opening and FAST & FURIOUS 6 (2013) is also just out of the top ten in 12th place with a 5.96 crore first day. The top ten Hollywood opening days (first full day) are as follows.
1. Fast & Furious 7 (2015) - 12,03,00,000
2. The Avengers - Age Of Ultron (2015) - 10,96,00,000
3. The Jungle Book (2016) - 10,12,00,000
4. Fast & Furious 8 (2017) - 9,00,00,000 apprx
5. Captain America (2016) - 8,46,00,000
6. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) - 7,93,00,000
7. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) - 7,48,00,000
8. XXX: Return Of Xander Cage (2017) - 7,21,00,000
9. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - 6,77,00,000
10. Jurassic World (2016) - 6,23,00,000
Fast & Furious 8 collects 14.50 cr on Day 1+paid previews

FAST & FURIOUS 8 did good business on its paid previews with collections around 5.50 crore as per early estimates though the final number will depend on where the Telugu and Tamil versions end at. It was just a half day release but it has still managed to open better than all the Hindi films this year barring RAEES, JOLLY LLB 2, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA and KAABIL. No other Hindi film has managed to cross the 5 crore nett mark on day one. XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE also had paid previews earlier this year and it had grossed 2.23 crore nett but that was an evening release while this is afternoon.
FAST & FURIOUS is the biggest Hollywood brand in India if we go by collections of the previous films but its hard to judge FAST & FURIOUS 8 by its Wednesday collections as its not a complete release. Today will give a better idea where it stands and how it compares with biggest opening days for Hollywood in India. The last film had grossed 12 crore nett on day one but it was a holiday. That was the highest opening for a Hollywood release in India but that may be a bit too much too expect from FAST & FURIOUS 8 as it has probably consumed some of its first day audience in the paid previews.
The Hindi release BEGUM JAAN will open on Friday but that's unlikely to give much competition toFAST & FURIOUS 8.
--------------------------
FAST & FURIOUS 8 had a good first full day as it grossed 9 crore nett which takes its two day figures to 14.50 crore nett. The film was helped by evening shows being strong due to a holiday the next day and collections in Delhi city and Punjab being helped by the holiday for Vaisakhi. The film is doing well but it will be the next few days that will tell whether it can match up to the last film. It is a holiday today so collections should go up and then there is the weekend to come. What is sure is that the film will become the highest grossing Hollywood film in 2017 in India by the end of its extended first weekend. The collections of Fast & Furious 8 till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 5,50,00,000
Thursday - 9,00,00,000
TOTAL - 14,50,00,000
The film is generally doing well across the country but the dubbed versions over the first two days have not performed as well as FAST & FURIOUS 7 which could keep it short of that film. FAST & FURIOUS 7 was huge in Hindi grossing close to 40 crore nett and going by first two day occupancy for this one its going to be tough to match. Though it could also be that the awareness is less in smaller cities of a Wednesday release and it improves on the traditional first day Friday.
