DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS continues to do reasonably well as it remained the top film in most Hindi film markets in its second week with collections of almost 21 crore nett in the first four days of the second week.

The film saw a huge jump in business on Saturday and has now maintained very well on the second Monday. The second week would notch up around 26-27 crore nett which is a 70% plus drop but its still a decent collection. The film is heading for a 135 crore nett plus lifetime total which is second best for Hollywood post the pandemic after SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.

The spectacular opening weekend has made the film a SUPER HIT at the box office in India. There maybe some Hollywood films putting up huge numbers but that 100 crore nett mark is still a big benchmark and next film to aim for it will be JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION next month.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS did reasonably well on its second Friday as it collected 3-3.25 crore nett. There is a huge fall from the first weekend but still there is a reasonable second week of over 20 crore nett on the cards.

The film is generally collecting better than JAYESHBHAI JORDAAR apart from the Hindi pockets like Gujarat, MP and UP but that is also because of JAYESHBHAI JORDAAR has much more showcasing in these parts. Actually showcasing is more across India for JAYESHBHAI JORDAAR. The second Friday also ensures that DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS will cruise past the 125 crore nett mark and maybe even end at around 135 crore nett

These numbers are coming for a film which does not have great reports. So these are very good numbers especially considering what is happening around it at the box office.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS has done very well in week one with collections of around 103 crore nett. The film had a fantastic weekend but did see a fall in collections over the weekdays. Yet, the collections were pretty decent on weekdays.

The second weekend should see reasonable collections as Saturday and Sunday do well again and it should comfortably cross the 125 crore nett mark. The film has done well across India but its Mumbai and Delhi/UP leading the way as the former crosses 25 crore nett and the latter is at 19 crore nett. The South saw a contribution of almost 31 crore nett with Mysore and Nizam/Andhra leading the way with 10 crore nett each.

The outperformance for the film probably came in West Bengal as that market did 5.75 crore nett which is a fantastic number. The numbers in other Eastern markets were also very good. It will end up becoming the sixth highest grossing Hollywood film of all time in India after AVENGERS: ENDGAME, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, THE JUNGLE BOOK and THE LION KING.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS showed a further drop on Tuesday but the daily collections are still healthy with a 6 crore nett plus figure. This takes the film to almost 93 crore nett in five days and a comfortable 100 crore nett plus first week.

Despite the falling collections, the film is on course to become the sixth highest grossing Hollywood film of all time in India after AVENGERS: ENDGAME, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, THE JUNGLE BOOK and THE LION KING. All these films went over the 150 crore nett mark while DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS may have to settle to for around 125 crore nett depending on where the second Friday collections fall.

This 125 crore nett will be a fantastic number as Doctor Strange is not really an established superhero in India as the first film clocked up just 25 crore nett in 2016.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS had a drop in collections on Monday but due to the strong opening weekend, the film has still done very well. The drop in business was always likely as the film did not jump on Sunday. The film collected 7.50 crore nett on Monday taking its total to 86.50 crore nett.

The first week should comfortably top the 100 crore nett mark though how far it gets depends on the daily drops till Thursday. There may well be drops but it still should be able to do some decent business over the second weekend.  

The film has over 70% of its all India business coming from Hindi circuits which is a higher ratio than all the Hollywood films which have done well in India since the pandemic be it GODZILLA VS. KONG, THE BATMAN or SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. Basically its the normal divide between South and other markets now which was not the case before.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS had a big first weekend with collections around 78 crore nett plus. The trend was not too good as Sunday saw a drop in collections with mass centres failing to go up on Sunday. Hollywood films do not show much growth on Sunday anyway as the big cities slow on Sunday evening and generally Hollywood as a high ratio of business coming from these areas. 

Here with DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS it was the normal slowness on Sunday evening but mass pockets did not push from Saturday and stayed in the similar range as Sunday. Still these places have done very well over the first three days and the film is a HIT irrespective of what happens from here. 

There is going to be drop on Monday but the job is done with such a big weekend already in the bag. The reports of the film were average and that reflected on the Sunday collections of the film. But the plus here is that it got through Saturday as there was a chance of a bigger drop. The early opening of advance may have helped Saturday as there was a higher than normal advance for a Saturday before release. The final Sunday collections will fall in the 24-25 crore nett range

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS had an excellent second day of around 26 crore nett taking its two day total to 54 crore nett plus. There is a drop on day two in mass pockets but overall collections remain excellent.

It will the highest three day weekend for Hollywood post the pandemic as SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME had a Thursday release which lead to a bigger drop on day two. The collections on the first day were pretty much similar to SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME in the Hindi circuits with some circuits scoring higher numbers.

The shortfall came in the South especially Nizam/Andhra and Tamil Nadu. The former was 3.25 crore nett against the 5 crore nett of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and the latter was 2.1 crore nett against the 3.50 crore nett of the Tom Holland-starrer. Mumbai was better than SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME with 6.85 crore nett as against the 6.50 crore nett of SPIDER-MAN.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS has had an excellent first day as it collects around 27-28 crore nett which is around 15% less than the numbers put up by SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME in December. The collections of DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS are likely to edge past SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME in some of Hindi circuits despite all India being less. 

The main shortfall as against SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME is in the South but that film was phenomenal in South. Here South is also fantastic but ratios are more similar to pre pandemic times and the out performance in the South is not as much as it has been post the pandemic. The opening in India is the fourth best for Hollywood after AVENGERS: ENDGAME, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

The reports of the film are average but it did not stop the audience coming as there was urgency. The film had record ticket rates but that also did not deter moviegoers. There will be fireworks in December with AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER as the ticket rates will be pushed higher than this and occupancy will also be better and it will be mad mad opening day. The fact that higher rates do not keep the audience away and huge numbers keep on coming means they will only go more higher for event films. This can be damaging to footfalls as higher the rate then footfalls likely to be less but its all about the weekend number whichever way that comes. 

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS has scored big because of the Marvel brand and because its a film for the cinemas. The last DOCTOR STRANGE film in 2016 opened to 2.61 crore nett and finished at 25 crore nett and this has beaten that in one day flat. Doctor Strange is not a huge superhero as Spider-Man in India which makes these opening day numbers look even better and getting so close to SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME is a huge result especially as reports not as strong as that film.
