Jugni singer files complaint; alleges Jacqueline Fernandez's controversial clip is AI-manipulated

HINDUSTAN TIMES (August 3, 2026)
Singer Sonu Thukral has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit over an allegedly AI-manipulated clip from his recently released song Jugni, featuring actor Jacqueline Fernandez.
The track, sung by Thukral and B Praak, was released on July 15. It soon courted controversy after a clip purportedly showing Fernandez suffering a “nip slip” during a dance sequence began circulating online. Several users questioned how the shot had made it to the final video. The makers subsequently blurred the disputed portion, even as versions of the clip continued to circulate on social media.
Thukral has now claimed that the clip being widely shared online was altered using artificial intelligence. Sharing a photograph of himself with a police officer and holding a copy of the complaint, he wrote, “I have filed a police complaint regarding my song Jugni. The clip has also been edited using AI, and the AI-generated version of the clip is being circulated further. I will talk about it publicly soon.”
The singer’s allegation has shifted the conversation from the content of the music video to the misuse of AI to create and circulate manipulated footage. Social media users have called for an investigation to identify those behind the alleged edit.
Until the time of going to press, Fernandez and the other people associated with the song had not issued an official statement.

Notices were sent to actor Rhea Chakraborty, comedian Bharti Singh, and her husband, scriptwriter-TV host Haarsh Limbachiyaa, by the Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with a Rs. 500-crore app-based fraud, officials said.
The police on Thursday claimed to have busted a scam involving HiBox, a mobile app that allegedly lured people into investing money through it with the promise of high returns. A few social media influencers and YouTubers, including Elvish Yadav, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, as well as Amit and Dilraj Singh Rawat, allegedly promoted it.
The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police has sent Rhea, Bharti and Haarsh notices to join the probe next week, reported PTI. On Friday, Abhishek, Elvish, Lakshay and Purav were summoned by the police, but they did not join the investigations.
Police have received over 500 complaints alleging that many social media influencers and YouTubers promoted HiBox, which was launched in February this year. Over 30,000 people invested money in it. The main accused, Sivaram (30), a Chennai resident, has already been arrested. We reached out to Rhea’s team and Bharti, but received no response till the time of going to press.

He was active on Instagram and his last post was a birthday wish for his father on April 22. The post read, ‘Very divine birthday father (sic).’
We spoke to Gurucharan’s friend Raju Banchan, a Mumbai-based businessman who said, “We have known each other since 2008. After he went back to Delhi, we were not in touch. But two months ago, we spoke and he sounded fine and said he was planning to come to Mumbai soon. I read a report that said he was unwell…I don’t think that is true.”

I am a victim of the conspiracy, not a conspirator, Nora Fatehi tells Economic Offences Wing

BOMBAY TIMES (September 17, 2022)
Nora Fatehi was questioned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police on Thursday, for more than four hours in connection with the Rs. 200 crores money laundering case involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Nora claimed in front of the EOW that she was a “victim of the conspiracy and not a conspirator”. She also showed them screenshots of her chats with Sukesh.
The police told Nora about Sukesh’s claim that Nora had insisted on a BMW 5 Series Car for attending a “charity event” in Chennai, a claim which Nora denied stating that she was gifted the car instead as a “token of love and generosity”.
In the event, Nora said she was offered a BMW car and a participation fee in the event, but that she refused to take that gift, however, she told (the organizers) that it should be given to her brother-in-law Mehboob alias Bobby. Special CP – Crime, Delhi Police, Ravinder Yadav said that Fatehi’s brother-in-law got a BMW from Chandrasekhar in 2021.
On being asked about who paid for her travel and other expenses, she took the name of Leena Paul. Pinky Irani had apparently introduced Nora to Sukesh.
Nora was also asked whether she had met Leena and Pinky at the event and if she had received any gifts from them. Nora answered that Leena met her at an event and gifted her a Gucci bag and an iPhone.
Nora also claimed that she received a call from Shekhar alias Sukesh after this, and she gave Mehboob/Bobby’s number to him for future dealings. When asked, when exactly she found Sukesh suspicious, Nora answered that when she started receiving calls and texts regularly from Sukesh, and when he started luring her with gifts, she understood his intentions and broke all relations with him and his managers.
On Wednesday, EOW had also grilled Jacqueline for eight hours at its office in connection with the case. EOW has recovered a super bike, costing around Rs. 8 lakhs from Prashant who is the manager of Fernandez. This bike was gifted by Sukesh to Prashant.

HINDUSTAN TIMES (September 17, 2022)
Actor Nora Fatehi appeared before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Delhi, on Thursday, where she was questioned for more than five hours in connection with conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s Rs. 200-crores money laundering case. Actor Jacqueline Fernandez was questioned, too.
“Nora was questioned earlier too, but there were a few unanswered things. The main reason is the common link between her and Fernandez. Both actresses were introduced to Sukesh by Pinky Irani (his aide),” a police officer was quoted as saying.
According to sources, Fatehi, 30, claimed that she is a victim of conspiracy, not a conspirator. She showed screenshots of her conversations with the conman and also provided details of her visit to a charity event in Tamil Nadu, for which she allegedly demanded for a BMW car. The actor said that she was gifted the car as a “token of love and generosity”, which she refused to accept at first.
Earlier, speaking to ANI, Ravinder Yadav, special commissioner of police, EOW, said, “There is more trouble for Jacqueline, as she did not cut ties with Sukesh even after knowing his criminal antecedents. But Nora did disconnect herself once she suspected that something was fishy.”
Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi’s legal woes continue

HINDUSTAN TIMES (September 16, 2022)
On Wednesday, actor Jacqueline Fernandez was questioned by the office of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police for over eight hours in connection with a Rs. 200-crore money laundering case linked to jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. And on Thursday, actor Nora Fatehi was questioned regarding the same case, as new chats of her with Chandrashekhar discussing cars emerged online.
Fernandez reached the EOW office around 11am along with her lawyer to join the investigation. According to reports, she was given a questionnaire with at least 100 questions inquiring about her relationship with Chandrashekhar and the gifts she received from him.
Mumbai-based Pinky Irani, who allegedly introduced Fernandez to Chandrashekhar, was also called, and according to ANI, Fernandez and Irani engaged in a war of words during the questioning.
While Irani accused Fernandez of accepting gifts from Chandrashekhar, despite knowing that he was behind bars on charges of cheating people of Rs. 200 crore, Fernandez accused Irani of lying. She said she had no idea about Chandrashekhar’s background. Both of them reportedly abused each other, after which police had to intervene. In February this year, the Patiala House Court granted bail to Irani, who was arrested on December 9, 2021, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with regards to this case.
It’s not over for Fernandez, as many reports indicate that she has been asked to stay back in Delhi as she might be called again to help further the investigation.
Meanwhile, while defending herself, Fernandez questioned why her colleague Fatehi was being treated differently. One report states that when asked if she associated with Chandrashekhar for money, Fernandez insisted that she wasn’t a gold digger by revealing her fee for one film, which is Rs. 7 crores.

We are not ‘Simmba’ or ‘Singham’. We are normal human beings, we don’t have antennas, says Nirbhaya case officer on Delhi Crime

December 16, 2020, was the eighth anniversary of the Nirbhaya incident. Chhaya Sharma, on whom Shefali Shah’s Vartika Chaturvedi was modelled in Delhi Crime – speaks about the show, police portrayal on screen, what has changed in the country post Nirbhaya and more
Niharika Lal (BOMBAY TIMES; December 18, 2020)
Delhi Crime, based on the investigations that went into the brutal gang rape of Nirbhaya on December 16, 2012, leading to her subsequent death, won the best drama series at the 48th International Emmy Awards, last month.
Ever since the series has been released, Chhaya Sharma – former DCP South Delhi, who led the special investigation team that cracked the case and on whom the character of Shefali Shah’s Vartika Chaturvedi is based —has been getting calls from curious people from across the world, who have many questions for the police officer. One caller even wanted to know “if she’s for real”, while another wanted to hear just how she sounds. Yesterday — the eighth anniversary of the Nirbhaya incident — Sharma, currently posted as Director, Central Vigilance Commission in Delhi, spoke to us about the show, Delhi Crime and more.
Chhaya Sharma was not very keen on meeting (the writer-director Richie Mehta) for the show, but it was her former boss, former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who convinced her.
She says, “I was initially not very keen. When I spoke to Richie for the first time, he was quite excited about the project and was ready to come to Mizoram (where she was posted then). But I told him that we’ll meet in Delhi when I’m there. Incidentally, the next time when I went to Delhi, he was there and when I met him, I found that he meant business, and he was quite serious about the project.”
Sharma says that she wasn’t initially convinced “that many would believe that it’s a positive police story of how the police detected and investigated a sensational case. However, Richie was open and was willing to tell the story from a different perspective.”
She adds, “Most of the people working on films or documentaries about the police system aren’t aware how police departments actually work and that’s why I used to tell Richie that he should go to police stations, just sit and observe how things work. I think he went to all the spots and police stations. In fact, he even went to meet doctors and visited the hospital.”
‘IT IS VERY IRRITATING TO SEE A CHARACTER IN WRONG POLICE UNIFORM’
Sharma had seen the unedited versions of Delhi Crime. She says, “Stories on police officials should be shown as how they are in real life, which is almost never the case in films. We are not ‘Simmba’ or ‘Singham’. We are not larger than life. We are not super humans. We are normal human beings, we don’t have antennas. Whatever detective skills we have, we acquire it (while working). And with due credit to Richie, he has shown the investigation right. I was also very happy that he chose Shefali for the role because she is an actor whose work I have followed,” adding, “Richie told me, ‘I chose Shefali because your eyes are similar’ (laughs).”
Not just Richie and Shefali, who sought her inputs, the costume team members of the show also used to send her photos of the police uniforms to check if they got them right. She says, “I told them that it’s the police uniform, be careful. It is very irritating to see a sub-inspector in a DIG’s uniform and a DIG in a sub-inspector’s uniform.”
‘I TOLD RICHIE TO TELL THE ACTUAL STORY’
Richie had interviewed every member of the Special Investigation Team, from the former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who was also a consultant for Delhi Crime, to the sub-inspectors and constables. Sharma says, “He took my version, my ACP’s version, my inspector and sub-inspectors’ versions, and then he came with the first draft. He asked me if I wanted to have a look at it, but I was busy with my work. So I broadly told him that you have got all the versions, now tell the story as it is. I told him that this is a positive story and it should be told as such.”
Shar ma adds, “I was answerable to the victim’s family and the court. I’m not interested whether the story is told or not, but I didn’t want it to be something that it is not. Whatever is presented in a series or a movie creates a perception in the minds of the public. And it is very difficult to tell them, ‘see, it is not like that’.”
‘DELHI CRIME GOT THE ATTENTION IT DESERVED’
Sharma is happy with the way the show has been made. She says, “I was happy to note the way in which our efforts and hard work were highlighted in the series. A lot of respect was shown in the scenes related to the victim. The challenges and travails of some of our smaller teams in the fields were well captured. Some character amalgamations were done for cinematic purposes, but the efforts put in the telling the story – in its nearly original form, yet keeping all sensitivity on track – was amazing. It was a job done well.”
Talking about the characters, Sharma says, “Denzil Smith (who played Shefali’s husband in the show) never met my husband, but he played his role superbly because Richie had done his research well. Adil Hussain was superb in displaying the suave and competent Delhi CP Neeraj Kumar. Rajesh Tailang and Jaya Bhattacharya did equal justice to their characters. Most actors who spoke to me had based their work on Richie’s research and that’s why we can see an equation between characters in the series.” Richie did a careful study of the case and characters for over five years, Sharma adds.

Batla House director Nikkhil Advani on maintaining a balanced view of the controversial 2008 encounter
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; July 8, 2019)
Well before he greenlit Batla House, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani knew that the challenge would lie in depicting the controversial 2008 police encounter without bias. The director reveals that the team dedicated four years to research before taking the John Abraham-starrer on floors.Besides studying the different conspiracy theories that emerged around the encounter that was planned by Delhi Police Special Cell DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Advani and writer Ritesh Shah also pored over the proceedings of the judicial enquiry that was set up to probe allegations of a fake encounter.
Advani says, "Ritesh had done a lot of the research. When my team jumped in, we started to create the timeline and get the various perspectives to be ironed out. We read the detailed accounts from both the Delhi Police and the boys' [suspected terrorists] sides and carefully considered what we were going to add to the narrative." The director asserts that it was imperative to showcase both sides of the encounter. "There is a huge responsibility to balance the drama and at the same time, tell the facts as they unfolded."
While gathering information on police encounters can be difficult, Advani says they were fortunate to find abundant material on the incident. "We have stuck to facts that were available in public domain."

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; May 24, 2018)
Apart from her next big screen venture, Nandita Das' Manto, Rasika Dugal is also awaiting the release of her upcoming web offering, tentatively titled Delhi Police, which will see her slip into the role of an IPS officer for the first time.
Talking about the eight-part crime drama series, based on high profile criminal cases, Dugal says, "I play an IPS officer who has only recently completed a year-long training in Delhi. So, I met several IPS officers as part of preparation. I spent time with them to understand the processes underway in police stations, how they train for a parade or simply hang out. It is easy to relate to people once they start talking. Stories about their training and desire to do something for people and the country made for many long conversations." The actor also took time to understand the different official ranks in the system, and those that are specific to the Delhi Police. "There were so many details about the uniform itself, and about the different ways in which they salute each other."
Shot from January to April earlier this year, the show was helmed by Canadian director Richie Mehta, and has been produced by Golden Karavan and Ivanhoe Pictures. Rasika Dugal admits she's known Mehta for a while after having met him at a film festival in 2013. "We bumped into each other later when he was on a recce for this project. I was shooting for another venture at the same location. He tells me that it occurred to him then that I would fit the part." The show, also featuring Shefali Shah, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang is based on investigations of the cases in concern.

MID-DAY (April 3, 2018)
The Delhi Traffic Police has roped in Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan to spread awareness about road safety through a series of videos. The actors, who were in the capital for the shoot of their upcoming film, Sui Dhaaga, shot at Chandni Chowk and Shankar Market amid tight security.
A senior traffic police officer reportedly said, “We wanted to do an event with them to promote safe driving but they were on a tight schedule. We have recorded their video messages. They will be uploaded on our Twitter handle.”
In a video message that was shared yesterday on the Traffic Police’s handle, Sharma is seen while driving. “Delhi Police does a lot for our safety. Your life is important for you, and your loved ones. You should drive safely and, while riding a motorcycle, you should always wear a helmet,” the actor said in the message. Dhawan’s video message is likely to be uploaded today.
Interestingly, the actor’s association with the project comes after he was previously chided by the Mumbai traffic police on Twitter after mid-day published a photo of the actor taking a selfie with a fan in the middle of a busy street.
