Delhi Police files FIR, begins probe in deepfake video case of Rashmika Mandanna

On Friday, the Delhi Police Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit registered a case of forgery in the case of the AI-based deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna. An FIR has been registered under IPC Sections 465 (Punishment for forgery) and 469 (Forgery for the purpose of harming reputation), along with Sections 66 and 66E of the IT Act.
On Friday, the Delhi Commission of Women issued a notice to the police to take cognizance of the video, following which the case was registered. Delhi Police officials say that they have started the investigation and are in the process of determining the source of the video. TNN
DCW NOTICE TO DELHI POLICE
Seeking details of the action take, DCW told the police in a notice, “The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance on media reports of a deepfake video of an Indian actress Rashmika Mandana circulating widely on several social media platforms. Reportedly, the actress has also raised her concerns in the matter and has stated that someone has illegally morphed her picture in the video. The Commission has learnt that till date no arrests have been made in the case. This is a very serious matter.”
