Soni Razdan felt guilty about breaking my parents marriage-Pooja Bhatt

‘SONI RAZDAN FELT GUILTY ABOUT BREAKING UP MY PARENTS 'MARRIAGE'

Actor Pooja Bhatt, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt from his first marriage, opens up on her heart-to-heart with stepmum
HINDUSTAN TIMES (May 29, 2026)

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s turbulent personal life made headlines in the 1970s and ’80s, including his extramarital affair with late actor Parveen Babi and later, his second marriage to actor Soni Razdan. Now, his eldest daughter from his first marriage to Kiran Bhatt, actor-producer Pooja Bhatt, has opened up on how Soni felt guilty about her relationship with Mahesh.

Recalling an old conversation with Soni in Coonoor, Pooja said on Vickey Lalwani’s podcast, “Soni had a heart-to-heart conversation with me… She said, ‘Pooja, I too feel so guilty, felt very guilty’. I told her with all of my heart, ‘Soni, you could not have broken up a relationship that was together. There is no space for anybody in a relationship that is solid unless there are crevices there or something was lacking, so somebody else could come and find that space’.”

Pooja revealed that she knew about Mahesh and Soni before her mother did. “He woke me up and said, ‘I have to let you know that I have met this lady and I am going to be moving out. It doesn’t mean that I love you any less, and I will always be there.’ I said agar woh mujhe nahin kahega to kisko kahega?” she said.

While Pooja said she did see her mother’s pain, she added that her parents “always maintained decorum and grace with each other”.

Mahesh and Kiran are parents to two children, Pooja and fitness trainer-actor Rahul Bhatt. Mahesh met Soni during the making of Saaransh (1984). They got married on April 20, 1986, and have two daughters, actor Alia Bhatt and author Shaheen Bhatt.

Before 3 Idiots sequel, Aamir Khan to develop One: The Story Of The Ultimate Myth adaptation with Mansoor Khan

Upala KBR (MID-DAY; May 7, 2026)

Surprise, excitement, scepticism, and what not! Fans had varied reactions when Aamir Khan, famous for his one-film-a-year approach, announced last week that he would shoot three movies in succession. Sure enough, the superstar’s date diary is full — he is expected to kick off the shoot of Rajkumar Hirani’s sequel to 3 Idiots (2009) in November, followed by the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic next year, and finally Mansoor Khan’s screen adaptation of his book, One: The Story Of The Ultimate Myth.

For now, the adaptation has Aamir’s undivided attention. Sources have told mid-day that the actor will soon begin developing the screenplay of One with his cousin and filmmaker Mansoor.

Written by Mansoor, the 147-page novel revolves around Abhay, a once-famous genetic engineer who is now hiding from a powerful establishment as he challenged its scientific paradigms. When he meets Sonal, a firebrand activist, by chance, he gains the confidence to fight for his beliefs.

A source reveals, “Aamir will step into the role of Abhay in the story. While he loved the themes and existential crises depicted in the book, from environmental degradation to sustainability, he felt that the screenplay could be a challenge, given how the plot and the two lead characters are written. This month, Aamir will head to Coonoor, where Mansoor lives. Together, they will develop the script.”

Most of May and June will be dedicated to the screenplay, after which Aamir will turn his attention to the promotions for his home production, the Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta-starrer period drama.

Mid-Day Exclusive: Check out Mrunal Thakur's look from Goa schedule in Nani 30

Nani 30: Mrunal Thakur's exclusive first look from her second Telugu film

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; June 29, 2023)

'Sita Ramam' (2022) brought much success to Mrunal Thakur. She hopes to be equally lucky with her second Telugu film, the working title of which is 'Nani 30'. Fronted by Telugu star Nani, the family drama went on floors in January in Hyderabad, followed by schedules in Mumbai and Goa. mid-day has now scooped exclusive pictures from its Goa shoot. In her first look from the movie, the leading lady is seen in a purple saree and ethnic jewellery, strolling on the beach.

A bit of digging revealed that the shoot was conducted earlier this month, near the Betalbatim Beach in south Goa.

A source tells us, “The makers wanted a picturesque beach against which they could shoot Mrunal’s introductory scene. To ensure a smooth filming experience, the local authorities cordoned off the beach. A team of 30 shot these portions in the first week of June. Costume designer Sheetal Sharma styled her for the film.”

After the Goa leg, the unit—led by debutant director Shouryuv—headed to Coonoor. “The team wrapped up the principal shoot in Coonoor last week. Now, only patchwork shoot is remaining.”

My character in Out Of Love 2 is neither a bechari nor a b*tch-Rasika Dugal

Reprising her part of Meera Kapoor in Out Of Love 2, Rasika Dugal discusses empathising with the role of a single mother
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; April 27, 2021)

Rasika Dugal, who has been on a golden run with her last few outings, most notably in Mirzapur 2, is ready to do the heavy-lifting in the second season of Out Of Love. If the first edition dealt with infidelity and heartbreak, including a wonderfully executed dinner-table scene in the season finale, the upcoming instalment will deep-dive into the anger and resentment that follow the crumbling of a marriage. As Purab Kohli reprises his role as the manipulative Akarsh who returns to Coonoor, Dugal’s Dr Meera Kapoor is a changed woman who will go to any lengths to shield herself from getting hurt all over.

When we get on a call with the actor, we begin by asking her how she approached Meera this time around. “I find second seasons more interesting. I had the opportunity to reimagine a character I thought I knew well. That’s the beauty of life — sometimes, a change is triggered [in us] by people’s surprising actions. Additionally, the rigour of being in a show where you are present in almost every frame over five episodes is enjoyable. I wanted to see if I can be interesting to an audience despite being present in every sequence,” she says.

Meera, though quiet and reserved, has been etched out as a woman with great emotional strength and resilience. For Dugal, it has been a journey of discovery to navigate the aftermath of a toxic marriage through her character. “She decided to stay back in a place where everyone around has disappointed her. For her, staying back was a sense of victory over Akarsh. This season starts off with her in a healthy space — as a great single mother and a respected doctor. But with her estranged spouse resurfacing, old wounds are reopened. Though she has moved on, she realises there were a lot of elements that needed closure.”

The Disney+Hotstar offering will indulge in a fair amount of mind games as the former spouses do “irrational, erratic and ugly things”. How does one play the character without their own sense of judgment prevailing? “[An actor] has to accept how [her character’s] rage has changed her. A character will never look like a vamp or a victim if the actor playing it doesn’t believe that. I don’t judge the characters I play, and I try to bring in my sensitivity to understand her way of being. It wasn’t difficult for me to understand what Meera and Akarsh are going through individually. I see Meera neither as a bechari nor a b*tch. She is maintaining her self-respect.”

Besides the creative lure of the story, the actor sheepishly admits that the hills of Coonoor were an important factor in her decision to do the series. “I am in love with that place. People never [acknowledge] that the location makes a huge difference in enhancing your work as an artiste. Every frame of that town is filled with beauty. Every time I return after shooting a season of Out of Love, I have withdrawal symptoms.”

The digital space seems to be healthy and competitive-Rasika Dugal

Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; January 17, 2021)

Rasika Dugal turns a year older today. The Delhi Crime actor admits that she is happy to celebrate, as long as other people plan her birthday! To ring in her special day this year, she will have an intimate brunch with family and close friends, and hopes “the years are making me more fearless rather than the other way round”.

Having wrapped up a 46-day-long shoot schedule of the second season of the web series Out Of Love in Ooty and Coonoor, Dugal says she could not have asked for more after the lockdown. “It was rigorous, but beautiful! The show is an emotionally and physically rigorous experience for me, because of the nature of the role and because I am in almost every frame. This is what an actor desires — the opportunity to live a part which demands something from you over a period of time. Shooting in the stunning beauty of the Nilgiris was a bonus. The hills were even more beautiful, this time around,” she reveals.

Workwise, 2021 is all about different seasons of the shows she is a part of. And Dugal is eager to reprise the characters. “I also look forward to sinking my teeth into some new roles. It looks like it’s going to be an interesting mix. But who knows! If there is anything I know for sure about this line of work, it is that things never end up being the way they seem in the beginning of the year,” she says.

Dugal is glad for the boom on the digital platform, which is a win-win for all, including creators and viewers. “The digital space seems to be a healthy, competitive space, at least so far. I’m happy that in this space, there is room for all sorts of stories and genres. For example, Mirzapur and Made In Heaven are two completely different shows in terms of genres, yet both have been watched widely. It is encouraging to know people want to tell different kinds of stories and audiences are seeking variety in content,” she adds.

Should I grab every opportunity I am getting now or take it slow and be choosy?-Rasika Dugal

Actor Rasika Dugal says at this stage of her career, she’s in two minds about how to move forward
Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; October 24, 2020)

Rasika Dugal has had a great career run for the last one-and-a-half years, especially thanks to her web shows Delhi Crime and Out of Love. She will soon by back on set shooting for Out Of Love 2 in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. While the actor is looking forward to working again, she admits there is some nervousness as well. “Today, everyone is exercising self-regulation and you don’t know exactly how serious people are about maintaining safety standards. The health situation hasn’t improved but we have to step out and work while taking all precautions,” she says.

Having judged the International Emmy awards, the actor was glad to come across content that she wouldn’t have otherwise. Ask her about the importance of international recognition in her career and she replies, “I don’t do these things expecting anything. As an actor, unexpected things lead to bigger surprises and more often that not, logical things don’t work out.”

She adds, “I have done a variety of work in the last year. Now, I don’t know how it will be going forward. Should I grab every opportunity I am getting now or take it slow and be choosy? As an actor, you also have to have experiences and preserve the quality of work. In a hectic life, we are unable to enjoy life as is.”

It's possible to love more than one person. You can't dictate monogamy-Rasika Dugal

Purab Kohli, Rasika Duggal and Tigmanshu Dhulia come clean on where they stand on cheating in marriage, the subject of their brand new web show
Aastha Atray Banan (MID-DAY; November 24, 2019)

"What excited me about Dr Meera, my character, was how she reacts when she finds out that her husband is cheating on her. It's quite surprising," says the toast of digital entertainment, Rasika Duggal about her new show, Out Of Love, that's streaming on Hotstar. "Of course, there is heartbreak, like there is when you get too attached to something, in this case, it's her marriage. I am also like that in person. I get over-involved, so it was easy for me to channel Dr Meera's pain."

Akarsh, played by the surprisingly brooding Purab Kohli, who we've seen mostly in upbeat roles, believes all's well with the relationship, physically and emotionally. "He just has a lot more love to give and he is giving it now to a new person. In the beginning, you might view him as the bad guy, but you understand him as the story carries on," Kohli thinks.

For director Tigmanshu Dhulia, the man behind realistic films like Paan Singh Tomar, the challenge was to create a non-judgmental story about a happening that is now commonplace. "It [infidelity] happens, it is prevalent. I think after 30, we all feel [like straying] at some point, even if just a desire. I haven't dealt with an emotional subject like this earlier, and I decided, let's make it a thriller, so that every kind of viewer enjoys it," he says about the story set in Coonoor, a hill station in Tamil Nadu.

It's an adult relationship subject, and more than relevant to discuss but that doesn't mean the choice of story isn't frowned upon. Duggal observes that although everyone seems to agree that cheating is rampant, the shame and embarrassment associated with it make it an awkward issue to chat about. "I think it's possible to love more than one person, or multiple people. It just is. You can't dictate [monogamy]," Duggal states emphatically, to which Kohli adds, "Of course, love can happen [outside of marriage]. We are all attracted to other people, but to act or not act on that love, is a choice that sort of says whether you are part of civilised society or not."

To talk of cheating would mean we would have to start at the beginning and debate the institution of marriage—one that could be losing traction in the modern world. Duggal, who is a queen at playing dark characters—and Meera is no different—laughs, "I believe in love, and I think people believe in it even more these days, but they don't need the validation that comes with marriage. Love, everyone wants."

Kohli, who has been married twice, says that because his parents divorced when he was 21, he knew that a respectable separation was a better choice than to let an unsuccessful marriage carry on. "My ex-wife and I decided that we couldn't do this anymore. We are still good friends." And despite this, he hasn't lost faith in marriage. "I did it again. This time, my partner, Lucy, and I were together for long, and even had a baby before we made it formal. By then, I knew I was ready for marriage, or what we call a connection with one person forever."

Dhulia, speaks as a man of experience when he says, "Marriage grounds you. It makes you a better person."

For now, the three want the audience to watch their show minus judgment, knowing that life is far from black and white. Duggal says, "I want them to recognise Meera's struggle, her pain, relate to and empathise with her. But while doing this, if they also relate to Akarsh, that would be great."

Rasika Dugal meets physicians to prep for her part in Tigmanshu Dhulia's web series, Dr Kapoor

Rasika Dugal: Crucial to be familiar with character's world
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; August 24, 2019)

Tigmanshu DhuliaThe shoot of Mirzapur 2 behind her, Rasika Dugal has plunged headlong into the universe of her next, Dr Kapoor. The actor has been stationed in Coonoor over the past few weeks, shooting for the Tigmanshu Dhulia-directed web series that sees her in the titular role. Given her love for method acting, it doesn't come as a surprise to know that Dugal underwent extensive prep for the show, which also stars Purab Kohli.

A source informs, "After honouring her Mirzapur 2 shoot, Rasika spent considerable time prepping for her physician role in the show. While she familiarised herself with the medical terms and technicalities of the profession, she also met physicians in order to get first-hand accounts from them."

The actor considers it imperative to fully understand one's character and their motive before reporting on the set. "As an actor, it is my job to prepare for the part that I am playing. Sometimes, I don't even know if any of the prep I do, will be put to use directly in the project. But it's crucial to familiarise yourself with the world that the character inhabits. Besides, I feel there is no fun in shooting without preparation," says Dugal, who recently enjoyed a successful outing in the digital space with Delhi Crime.

Shah Rukh Khan threatened to dance on top of the engine room-Farah Khan

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 4, 2015)

It's been 17 years since Shah Rukh Khan danced on top of a moving train in Dil Se.. and Chaiyya Chaiyya still gives one a high. The song's choreographer, Farah Khan, reveals that the reason they did that was because they didn't get permission to shoot at the Ooty railway station.

The authorities decided, at the nth hour, that they couldn't block the yard for a film shoot for five days and director Mani Ratnam called Farah to enquire if they could shoot on top of the train. "Without thinking I told him it was a fab idea, little realising what I was getting into," she admits.

Fortunately for Farah, a strike in Chennai meant unexpected breathing space for composer AR Rahman who was at his peak then. He finished this song for Dil Se.. and sent it across so Farah could rehearse her moves.

The feisty dance director had already told her 'hero', Shah Rukh Khan, that there would be no compromises because of the location. He would have to jump, prance, go down on his knees, do everything that would be expected of him at ground level. "Shah Rukh was game, promising that he'd kill it for any other actor. He was enthusiastic and super energetic, refusing to wear a safety harness and even threatening to dance on top of the engine room till I pointed out that the gushing steam would burn him. As it is, at the end of each day, we'd be covered in soot, with pieces of coal clogging our noses, ears and stuck to our hair," Farah reminisces.

The only problem was that SRK didn't have a dancing partner. Shilpa Shirodkar had said no, so also Shilpa Shetty who was scared of heights. Even a South Indian heroine whom Mani had approached had refused him. It was make-up wizard, Mickey Contractor, who suggested Malaika Arora's name to Farah when they were shooting for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

"I knew Malaika who was dating Arbaaz Khan. We'd hang out together but I didn't know she could dance. Mickey assured me that she could and three days before the shoot, she flew down to Ooty and we rehearsed in the banquet hall of Mithun's (Chakraborty) hotel, Monarch. But there was no time to practise on top of the train. On the first day it was hit-and-miss but by the second day, we were quite comfortable on the roof, drinking tea, eating breakfast, doing everything other than relieving ourselves," laughs Farah.

They wrapped up the song in four-and-a-half-days, travelling to and fro Ooty to Coonoor, from 7 am to 6 pm. The train would stop at Ooty station for five minutes during which they had to load everything and everyone. Later, it would stop again for the ritual of passing the keys. That apart, they were in motion through the day.

"If the train slowed, it got really jerky up on the roof. It had to run at a speed of 40 km per hour for it to be stable. It was a dangerous ride, with sheer drops on each side. When I'm asked what precautions I took, I say that I took extra dancers along in case some fell off. Fortunately, no one did," she says with a relieved chuckle, happily sharing her success with Rahman and Gulzar who gave her a fabulous song even though they had to constantly call up Javed Akhtar to ask what certain words meant.

Farah admits that when they were shooting it, she knew Chaiyya Chaiyya was something special and was disappointed when the film flopped. But despite the box-office failure, it went on to become a cult song and became Farah's calling card. She relived the experience years later by getting a train on stage for the Bombay Dreams cast to do a Chaiyya Chaiyya.

"A Swedish film, Dancer In The Dark, shot on top of a train too but with 72 cameras placed en route. We had a camera set on a crane on the roof and took 360 degrees shots with steady cams which had my assistant and me diving under a blanket as there was nowhere else to hide," she flashbacks.

For its novelty and the challenges it presented, Chaiyya Chaiyya tops Farah's list, more so when she learnt that after the film's release, some viewers would stray into the auditorium just before the song came on, dance to its beats, then walk out. "In the interiors, I'm told, that some theatre owners attached it to the end of the film so instead of a depressing human bomb explosion the film had a happy ending," she signs off.

Fawad Khan turns down one of the lead roles in a Sohail Khan film?

Fawad Khan and Sohail Khan
Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; June 24, 2015)

If industry sources are to be believed, Sohail Khan had recently approached Fawad Khan for one of the lead roles in his upcoming project. However, the Pakistani heartthrob is said to have politely turned down the offer.

A source close to the development says, “Fawad did not take it up as he did not like the script or the role offered to him. He has been approached by several Bollywood filmmakers, but wants to take it slow.” Sohail, however, refrained from sharing details of his apparent meeting with Fawad. “I am busy working on scripts, let’s see. I am clueless about this.”

The actor, who is currently shooting in Coonoor for Karan Johar’s Kapoor & Sons, is also said to have opted out of Anil Kapoor’s Battle For Bittora as it apparently involves certain intimate scenes. He had also refused to kiss Alia Bhatt in Kapoor & Sons. The actor was accompanied by his wife Sadaf when he was shooting in Coonoor for the film.

Says a source close to Fawad, “He is going through some scripts and will meet a few producers when he comes to Mumbai.”

Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt are inseparable in Coonoor?

Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra
Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; June 15, 2015)

For some time now, rumour mills have been abuzz about Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt’s relationship with the former apparently spending a lot of time at the latter’s place.

Now, if the latest on the matter to be believed, then, the duo, who is currently shooting in Coonoor for their upcoming film, Kapoor and Sons, is inseparable.

A source from the unit says, “In addition to spending time on and off the set, the two have been keeping a tab on each other’s daily diet and shooting schedule. They get along very well and are glued to each other.”

“Even when they were in Mumbai, Sidharth would pick up Alia and drop her to the shoot,” adds the source. Interestingly, the two feature as a newlywed couple in a soft drink advertisement.

Sidharth and Alia remained unavailable for comment.
