BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 saw a big drop in collections as it collected 0.9-1 crore nett on its first Monday. The drop is 60% plus but its made to look more than it actually is as there was a 20% boost for this film on day one due to the day one partial holiday. 

The writing was on the wall on day one and the drop is pretty much as expected. BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 has total of 9 crore nett plus in four days and it may get to around 11.50 crore nett in its first week and that will be it for this film. 

SOORYAVANSHI has set the box office alight but the scenario for most remains the same as it was before the pandemic. The initials were a struggle and is still the case and its about that weekend trajectory for most of the films and BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 failed on that account. The film could have easily become a TV film and gone to digital but it came on theatres. So even despite the poor response it was at least a release for exhibitors for whom there is a lack of content at the moment.

Friday - 2,50,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 3,25,00,000 apprx

Monday - 95,00,000 apprx

BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 was unable to do much in the first three days as it recorded dull collections over the weekend of 8.25 crore nett. The film had a holiday in North India for Guru Nanak Jayanti on day one but was not really able to take benefit of that.

The film has scored best in North but collection should have been much better especially due to the first day holiday. NCR is the only place where some of the cinemas have recorded better collections than SOORYAVANSHI third weekend but still these collections are far lower than they should be.

The weekend of the film is lower than BUNTY AUR BABLI (2005) which was almost 8.75 crore nett on 475 screens. The plus came on Sunday but it was more for the industry as a film like this with little appeal still especially outside metros went up 30%. This shows families are coming out on Sunday and is a great sign for films which manage to cater for this audience.

Sunday - 3,25,00,000 apprx

BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 was flat on day two as the collections fell a little in North India but were up a little in the West, East and South. This is pretty much expected as it had around 40% collections from North India on day one and they were always going to be less on Saturday due to the first day holiday factor.

Films with Rani Mukerji in recent times have opened very well in West Bengal but this film was 65% less than the likes of HICHKI and MARDAANI 2 in West Bengal due to flavour of the film and the film being more of an ensemble rather than a Rani Mukerji film.

The film is not going anywhere and although good growth on Sunday will mean nothing for BUNTY AUR BABLI 2, it would be a good sign for the industry if this sort of film can also get a good jump on Sunday. Sunday has seen strong growth generally post the pandemic and if a rejected urban film can go 25-30% higher on a day dominated by the Hindi circuits, it would be great sign for the industry as a whole.

BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 could not do much at the box office as it collected 2.50-2.75 crore nett on its first day which probably would have been okay if these collections came before the release of SOORYAVANSHI. But now with the box office in good health, these collections are low.

The film benefited due to the Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday in the North and that is where collections are better by far. But even here, they should have been higher and it didn't as the film never really got a push in the evening.

The film is a sequel to BUNTY AUR BABLI which was released way back in 2005 and did very well but the franchise value 16 years later is unlikely to be much and on top its not the type of film that can probably go forward as a franchise. The 2005 film was driven by a mega blockbuster song picturised on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan but BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 does not have anything even close.

The first day collections of BUNTY AUR BABLI 2 are also in the same range range as BUNTY AUR BABLI but that was 2005 with 475 screens and here its 2021 and it has released on 1800 screens.

The collections of the film were behind SOORYAVANSHI in all markets except Delhi/UP and East Punjab. West Bengal is yet to come. But generally across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nizam/Andhra and Bihar, there were centres which were doing one third of SOORYAVANSHIfor BUNTY AUR BABLI 2.

The film has around 40% business coming from the North which makes meaningful growth tough for the film as these areas wont grow much. The other areas will have some growth but business is very low there.
