Of late, Amy Jackson has been extremely busy with her shoot schedule in the English capital. She’s working in an independent film called Boogieman and is very excited about it. One look at her Instagram handle, and one can see her partying in London with her gal pals. The actress is quite gung-ho about her role in the film as it’s rooted in humour. In a chat with After Hrs, the actress talks about her character in the film and the blast she had shooting for it...
You have been MIA again after Freaky Ali?
That’s because I have been doing an independent British film called Boogie Man. I have been shooting for it in London. I had a 60-day schedule and it’s all done now. It’s got a link to India and that’s why they cast me, which was great. It’s got a really cool script and my character is interesting. Plus, I was shooting on my home turf, so I was very happy.
While Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have been part of action films in the West, yours is a romcom right?
Yes, it’s a romcom and it has got a lot of funny moments and humour. There isn’t any action in the film. In 2.0, there’s different style of action. It’s not like kickboxing and karate like in Singh is Bliing. It’s varied — with aerial action and stunts. Boogie Man is very subdued compared to that.
Tell us about your role in the movie...
I am part of the family, the main actor’s confidante. I play Kush’s (Khanna) sister in the film. It’s not a period film, but in the movie he’s obsessed with the ’70s. It’s got all the elements of the ’70s, so the dancing is also a part of it. I would rather call it a British-Bollywood film because it’s got the comedy, romance, the family values like you see in the films here, and it’s got three songs as well. It’s more of a musical.
I’m not competing with Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra-Amy Jackson

Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have become global stars today. Both made impressive debuts in two different Hollywood films earlier this year. They made their presence felt on magazine covers, billboards and chat shows.
They sat on TFR (the front row) of fashion week for top designers and attended big events like the Met Gala. Now, it’s Amy Jackson’s time to do the same. Amy has just finished work on her Indo-English project Boogie Man. “It was lovely to shoot the film. My character has an Indian connection in the film,” she says.
International aspirations
Amy might take on more work on foreign land. She says, “I loved a few scripts when I was in Los Angeles. I have got my agency over there and I did a few castings, met some directors and producers. It’s a totally different ball game.”
Comparisons with DP-PC
Amy understands that she will be pitted against DP and PC. But she feels that wouldn’t be fair. Amy adds, “I am passionate about my acting. It’s not competition for me at all. I’m not competing with Deepika or Priyanka. I look up to them as inspiration. Priyanka has been in the industry for a lot longer than Deepika and me. Even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is someone, who I have always appreciated and respected. It motivates me more than feeling pressurised. It makes me want to a work hard to achieve my dreams and goals.”

Naach gaana may be unique to Hindi films, but with a Bollywood actress as part of their cast, makers of an Indo- British film couldn’t resist weaving a dance sequence into the narration. Amy Jackson, who had showed off some mean moves in a couple of songs of her 2015 film, Singh Is Bliing, will put her nimble toes to good use for Boogie Man.
Amy, who plays the love interest of the protagonist’s brother, says, “Bollywood dance is actually a genre across the globe. This sequence follows a theme of BeyoncĂ© meets Bollywood. It’s a sexy, exotic and powerful interpretation of Bollywood dance.”
International choreographer Leena Patel, who has collaborated with the likes of rapper will.i.am, trained the team for the song. Amy adds, “Bollywood dance is all about having fun in the moment. I practiced the steps for a few hours and picked up an intense three minute routine in minimal time.”
The song is currently being shot in London where an ornate set has been mounted at a suburban studio in London. Leena’s dancers, along with Amy, completed the shoot over a two-day schedule.

Don't be surprised if you happen to come across a chubby Amy Jackson in a month from now. The actress is giving up on her diet and workout regime to put on around five to 10 kgs for her next, Boogie Man.
Music video producer and filmmaker Andy Morahan, who offered the project to her at last year's Cannes Film Festival, insisted that Amy put on some weight for a 'fuller' look in keeping with her character, Nimisha.
A source says, "Amy just wrapped up Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0 and will start shooting for Boogie Man in London by mid-April. She had met a nutritionist during her recent visit to London for a fashion week."
The actress is a big foodie and was thrilled about letting go of a strict diet. "The extra pounds don't bother me at all. The only thing that worried me is that I do not put on weight easily. I have not done any of this before and am looking forward to it," she says.
The film traces the story of a British-Indian teen, Pavan, who struggles with his cultural heritage in modern-day London, falling for a white 20-something actress-model during a '70s-themed exhibition. He becomes obsessed with her, the fashion and music of a seemingly glamorous '70s era, while trying to keep his family's traditions intact. Amy will play girlfriend to Pavan's brother.
