OPPENHEIMER did very well in its first as it collected 62 crore nett. Although there was a drop on Monday, the film recovered well over the weekdays and held steady. The film should again do very well this weekend driven by the bigger multiplexes.
The highest Hollywood grosser this year is FAST X till date at around 111 crore nett while MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING - PART ONE is closing in on the 100 crore nett mark. OPPENHEIMER has lower first week collections than these films but may eventually become the highest grossing Hollywood film this year. A lot depends on where the second weekend lands.
The collections of OPPENHEIMER over its first week is as follows.
Friday - 14,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx

Wednesday - 5,75,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 5,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 72,00,00,000 apprx
BARBIE has done reasonably well in week one with collections of 26 crore nett. The genre has very little potential in India so even getting this much collections becomes an achievement. This film is a huge BLOCKBUSTER in the North America and Europe but the BARBIE brand does not have the same value in India.
The collections of BARBIE till date are as follows.
Friday - 4.50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,00,00,000 apprx

The first week should finish at around 71-72 crore nett and then the weekend will determine its lifetime business. The weekends will continue to do well even other days see drops.

OPPENHEIMER had a good hold on Monday as it collected 7 crore nett. The collections on Monday were better than FAST X and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING - PART ONE although those films had longer extended weekends. Those films also had a wider reach with dubbed versions while here its just a Hindi version with limited collections.
The collections so far for the film are over 55 crore nett and the week should go over the 70 crore nett mark. The film should get over the 100 crore nett but as collections are mainly from the English version, it could see bigger drops in the longer run. The film is a HIT and may well emerge a SUPERHIT and the biggest from Hollywood this year.
The collections of OPPENHEIMER till date are as follows.
Friday - 14,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 17,00,000,000 apprx
Monday - 7,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 55,50,00,000 apprx
BARBIE saw a 50% drop on Monday and took its overall business to 19.50 crore nett. The first week is looking to close at around 24-25 crore nett which is a decent number for this film with not much of an audience in India and a limited release as well.
The collections of BARBIE till date are as follows.
Friday - 4.50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 19,50,00,000 apprx

The craze of BARBENHEIMER in the West also reached India as both OPPENHEIMER and BARBIE collected well especially the former. BARBIE also punched higher than its weight as far as the Indian market is concerned. The two films have combined a total of 65.75 crore nett (almost 80 crore GROSS box office) and 60 crore nett of that is in just the English language.
The Hindi film industry is into offering cheap and even free tickets while these two films have a combined average ticket price which is well over INR 300. Yet, it got the audience in huge numbers. Both films may be lopsided to the expensive multiplexes and that is why the ATP is high but it spells out the fact that ticket pricing is not an issue when the audience wants to come. When the audience does not want to come, it does not matter as they will not come no matter what is done.
OPPENHEIMER collected a huge 48.50 crore nett over the weekend and although the growth over the weekend was not huge, it does not matter much because of the opening it took and it was never going to jump 40-50% from the opening day. The film is already beaten the collections of all Nolan films in terms of lifetime collections including THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and BATMAN BEGINS.
The target is probably a 100 crore nett plus number although it should be higher with this initial weekend. But as its mainly collecting in English, it may be hard to go much above 100 crore nett.
The collections of OPPENHEIMER over its first weekend is as follows.
Friday - 14,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 17,00,000,000 apprx
TOTAL - 48,50,00,000 apprx
BARBIE also did well collecting 17.50 crore nett over three days on just 850 plus screens. The genre does not have much scope in India but some of that craze for the film in the West travelled to India as well. The film has easily outperformed OPPENHEIMER in the North America and Europe.
The collections of BARBIE over its first weekend is as follows.
Friday - 4.50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 17,25,00,000 apprx

OPPENHEIMER set the box office on fire with collections of 14.50 crore nett (updated) which is more than films like FAST X and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING - PART ONE which were both around the 12 crore nett mark. The film, driven by the brand value of director Christopher Nolan, has primarily collected in English.
The film did not release in Tamil or Telugu. There was a Hindi version but this has only accounted for 10% of the collections. The film scored big numbers in all the major centres across the country with the bigger metros leading the way. There is a big contribution from the South which is a huge plus for English films as compared to Hindi films. Mumbai city, which now struggles for Hindi films, was also outstanding for OPPENHEIMER.
The other Hollywood release, BARBIE, also scored very well with 4.25-4.50 crore nett on day one. This may not look a big number but the film was only released on 850 screens plus while OPPENHEIMER was 1900 screens. Its a very good number for the release and on top the genre is not strong in India and these type of films hardly get numbers in India. The BARBIE brand will have some takers though especially in the major metros.
It is pretty insane that around 18 crore nett collections have come from ENGLISH language in INDIA on the first day when both films released are not exactly in the genres which score best in the country.
The top ten openings for Hollywood in India post the pandemic are as follows.
1. Avatar: The Way Of Water - 39,87,00,000
2. Spider-Man: No Way Home - 32,67,00,000
3. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness - 28,74,00,000
4. Thor: Love And Thunder - 18,48,00,000
5. Oppenheimer - 14,50,00,000 apprx
6. Fast X - 12,21,00,000
7. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 11,93,00,000
8. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part One - 11,97,00,000
9. Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania - 8,51,00,000
10. Jurrasic World: Dominion - 8,22,00,000
