The craze of BARBENHEIMER in the West also reached India as both OPPENHEIMER and BARBIE collected well especially the former. BARBIE also punched higher than its weight as far as the Indian market is concerned. The two films have combined a total of 65.75 crore nett (almost 80 crore GROSS box office) and 60 crore nett of that is in just the English language.

The Hindi film industry is into offering cheap and even free tickets while these two films have a combined average ticket price which is well over INR 300. Yet, it got the audience in huge numbers. Both films may be lopsided to the expensive multiplexes and that is why the ATP is high but it spells out the fact that ticket pricing is not an issue when the audience wants to come. When the audience does not want to come, it does not matter as they will not come no matter what is done.

OPPENHEIMER collected a huge 48.50 crore nett over the weekend and although the growth over the weekend was not huge, it does not matter much because of the opening it took and it was never going to jump 40-50% from the opening day. The film is already beaten the collections of all Nolan films in terms of lifetime collections including THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and BATMAN BEGINS.

The target is probably a 100 crore nett plus number although it should be higher with this initial weekend. But as its mainly collecting in English, it may be hard to go much above 100 crore nett.

Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 17,00,000,000 apprx

BARBIE also did well collecting 17.50 crore nett over three days on just 850 plus screens. The genre does not have much scope in India but some of that craze for the film in the West travelled to India as well. The film has easily outperformed OPPENHEIMER in the North America and Europe.
