AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER had another strong week as it collected 22 crore nett which takes the overall total to 361 crore nett and it should soon overtake the 367 crore nett of AVENGERS: ENDGAME. The collections in the South have come down due to a huge reduction in screen space but there will still be healthy contributions from Mumbai and Delhi NCR.

The fourth week collection is another record for Hollywood in India as it beats the 17 crore nett apprx of THE JUNGLE BOOK released in 2016. The GROSS collections of the film are already an all time record at 462 crore. This is $56 million and puts India in sixth place for international collections of the film after China, France, Germany, South Korea and United Kingdom.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER is heading to be the highest grossing Hollywood film in India as it picks up another 5.75 crore nett on the third Monday post the holiday period. This has taken the total business of the film to a huge 328 crore nett in seventeen days.

The third week of the film is heading towards business in the 56-58 crore nett range which is a number that no Hollywood film has even got close to in the third week. The film continues to run riot in the South as it has a collections of 166 crore nett from South India till date. The Nizam/Andhra figures is an insane 64 crore nett which is almost 20% of the all India business. The overall contribution from the South is over 50%. 

The film is looking to smash all records for Hollywood films and chase down the 367 crore nett figure of AVENGERS: ENDGAME. The film should go on to do around 375 crore nett from here unless the film starts to drop faster now that the holiday period is over.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER is holding well post the holiday period as 4.50 crore nett came on third Tuesday taking the cumulative number to 332 crore nett. There has been a drop on Monday and Tuesday as offices open up and the public returns to work but that will be done now and it should hold up better today (Wednesday).

The third week looks to be heading for 57 crore nett which breaks all records for Hollywood releases by distances. The drop in the third week will be only 42% while in the second week it was 46%. This is extraordinary trending at these levels though obviously helped by the holiday period. If the trending continues like this the film will go to 400 crore nett but that is unlikely as week four should have a bigger drop but with lack of competition you never know.

The film has collected 45 crore nett in Tamil Nadu so far and this will be another circuit where the film crosses 50 crore nett. AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER will have three circuits crossing 50 Crore nett (Nizam/Andhra, Mumbai and Tamil Nadu ) which is a first. AVENGERS: ENDGAME had two circuits crossing the 50 crore mark (Mumbai and Delhi/UP) with Mumbai going to 100 crore nett.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER saw another drop which is higher than normal on its third Wednesday as it consumed a lot of business over the holiday period and is now dropping a little but overall the collections still remain fantastic.

The weekend is also coming when it should do strong business again on Saturday and Sunday. This will be last weekend to put numbers up in South as the local big releases will be out next week. The second week will now end on 56-56.50 crore nett. It will mean the film ends the week close to 340 crore nett.

The film is slowing in Nizam/Andhra and with the big local releases to come its looking a 65-66 crore nett finish in the circuit and 30 crore nett higher than any other non South Indian film.

In terms of GROSS collections that has been done as it has crossed the GROSS numbers of AVENGERS: ENDGAME with the gross collections of the film standing at almost 450 crore. The best performing market comparatively continues to be Tamil Nadu but this will be till Tuesday only as the big releases there come on Wednesday and it is the battle of the two rival superstars of the state.

The collections of the film stand at 355 crore nett which is 12 crore nett less than AVENGERS: ENDGAME but the GROSS numbers stand at around 458 crore and that is more than AVENGERS: ENDGAME which was 437 croe GROSS.

The film should go on to beat the AVENGERS: ENDGAME number of 367 crore nett but it will depend on the Hindi circuits as contribution from South could drop down to 15-20% from the 50% at present.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER continued its phenomenal run with 9 crore nett on its third Friday taking it to 296 crore. It is on its way to beat the 367 crore nett of AVENGERS: ENDGAME which is the highest Hollywood grosser in India. If it crosses the 367 crore nett, it will be down to South India as it continues to record insane business down there.

Nizam/Andhra has seen collections slow but Tamil Nadu has taken over the mantle and the film may well reach 50 crore nett or at least very close. AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER smashed all records in South India from day one and continues to do so as it beat the numbers of AVENGERS: ENDGAME in all circuits. It had done Nizam/Andhra and Kerala some time back but now it has also crossed Mysore/Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The film has collected a huge 133 crore nett in South India till date (13 days) and this could go to around 160-170 crore nett in the final tally and this would be in a similar range to PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 as far as business in South India goes. PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 was around the 175 crore nett mark.

The film has really pushed the boundaries in Nizam/Andhra and because of that, it will end up doing 60-65% more than AVENGERS: ENDGAME does in South while in Hindi circuits, it will be around 35% less than Endgame. This also has a lot to do with AVATAR (2009) being far bigger in South than Hindi circuits especially the mass Hindi circuits which did not take to the 2009 film that well.

The GROSS collections of the film crossed 300 crore on Sunday and stand at 310 crore after its second weekend. In terms of international collections, India stands as the fourth best market after China, South Korea and France at the moment.

The film smashed opening day records in all four South circuits (Nizam/Andhra, Mysore/Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala). Nizam/Andhra and Kerala have already lifetime records also while Tamil Nadu and Mysore/Karnataka will also join. The film has now started to beat AVENGERS: ENDGAME game daily collections as that film collected a little under 19 crore nett on its second Saturday.

The growth was extraordinary all over though it was Mumbai leading the way where the film has almost touched the 40 crore nett mark. There was competition from a medium Telugu film with DHAMAKA which should be an opening day of around 6 crore nett and that is pretty good. The South had phenomenal collections over the weekend and so it looked like these markets will drop off more on the weekdays. But the trend has been strong strong though by Thursday the Hindi circuits were giving 55% of the business and Mumbai circuit and finally went ahead of Nizam/Andhra in terms of daily collections.

The story of the film is the extraordinary collections in Nizam/Andhra which are at 45 crore nett in the first week, that is, 10 crore more than AVENGERS: ENDGAME and there is more to come. The business on Friday should confirm that the film is a BLOCKBUSTER in India and it will have two holiday weekends to get to the 300 crore nett mark or close. It will not do the AVENGERS: ENDGAME business ias there is a huge difference in Hindi circuits and no matter how big South goes, it cannot cover the difference.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER was steady again on Wednesday as it collected 15 crore nett which takes it over 175 crore nett to 177.50 crore nett. The first week business of the film will be in the 190 crore nett range though the Hindi circuits will still be under 100 crore nett.

The film is all set to emerge a BLOCKBUSTER and the collections on the second Friday should confirm that. Even if Friday comes out a bit lower, it will not really matter as there will be the holiday weekend to make up lost ground.

Despite these huge results for the film, there is slight disappointment as to how the Hindi circuits have performed as a better performance would have taken it to another level. The AVENGERS: ENDGAME collections were never on in the Hindi circuits. But it should have beaten AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and at present it is struggling to do so though there are two holiday weekends to come.

The film is now established at the box office and will do well for sometime with Saturday and Sunday powering the collections of the film. The film is driven by the collections in the South India territories but Hindi circuits are also good. It's just that they don't match up to the collections in the South.  

Nizam/Andhra has now hit the 40 crore nett mark and it remains to be seen where this market ends up. It will be the best performing circuit as Mumbai does not look like catching up but it will be the second weekend which will determine where the film is going in Mumbai circuit. The film also crossed the 200 crore mark in terms of GROSS box office on Tuesday.

The business continues to be dominated by the southern circuits as they have higher collections than the Hindi circuits even on Monday. Nizam/Andhra continues its phenomenal run and in just four days has become the highest grosser outside South films beating AVENGERS: ENDGAME and BRAHMASTRA.

The film has dropped around 50% in Mumbai and Delhi/UP which is good though it could have been a little better. It is still good enough for a good run for a few weeks. The first week should go to around 185-190 crore nett but a lot depend on Nizam/Andhra. This circuit is still contributing almost 30% when the norm for Hollywood from this circuit is 10-12%. So the falls here will determine where the week goes.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER scored a superb first weekend as it collected 127.50 crore nett driven by huge business in South India and an extraordinary Nizam/Andhra. The collections in this circuit will be 30 crore nett plus in just three days and may well beat the lifetime record of AVENGERS: ENDGAME in just four days. The rest of South also seems to be heading for record numbers with good growth in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as well.

The business on Sunday was huge as mass belts in Hindi circuits jumped very well and there were very good gains in Nizam/Andhra and Tamil Nadu. The business on Sunday went up 15% which is very good for a Hollywood film especially with collections at these high levels. It is normally difficult for Hollywood films to make much gains on Sunday.

The business in Hindi circuits could have been better as the contribution looks to be coming under 50% for the weekend but the likes of Mumbai and Delhi/UP are likely to hold better in the long run. Due to the insane business in South India, the drop on Monday can be there as these markets are sure to drop which happens normally and here the collections are already at very high levels.

The film is a SUPER HIT which Monday should confirm and it may well become a BLOCKBUSTER depending on how it holds up on its second Friday.

Nizam/Andhra saw an insane first day and so there was a big drop but still collections came to around 8 crore nett with the circuit collecting a huge 19 crore nett in 2 days. the previous best for Hollywood on any day is 5.50 crore nett in the circuit.

The Hindi circuits saw good growth as collections were just under 18 crore nett on Friday but went to 21 crore nett on Saturday and this is despite limited 5% growth in the mass Hindi circuits. Mumbai circuit was best as collections jumped 30% plus on its second day with overall collections still less than Nizam/Andhra. But it will go higher at some point be it today or later on in the week.

The two day box office of the film is 80 crore nett plus and the weekend is heading for a huge total of around 125 crore nett as long as Nizam/Andhra does not see another drop today as collections still remain very high in the circuit. If the circuit drops then it could be a little less than 125 crore nett but that hardly makes a difference as its a huge weekend.

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER scored a fantastic first day with collection of 40 crore nett apprx driven by record breaking collections in all circuits of South India. The final collections are still to come but the records look there comfortably beating AVENGERS: ENDGAME in all the southern circuits.

The film has also done very well in Hindi circuits though its low in comparison to South but that was always likely as AVATAR (2009) was a mega BLOCKBUSTER in South and although it was also a huge BLOCKBUSTER in metros of Hindi circuits, the business was very average in smaller centres. In fact some of the mass circuits were so low that AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER may have beaten the lifetime collections of AVATAR (2009) in circuits like CI, Bihar and Assam in just one day. If not one day then it will be 1.5 days. So looking at it that way, these circuits are actually very big for the film.

The numbers are solid across Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab and Bengal but here the story was always about what happens from second day onward as the film is not an action extravaganza like the other big Hollywood openers. And to be competing with likes of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is good enough as the film will not be as heavily frontloaded like those films if the public is with the film.

The film will show growth on Saturday across all Hindi markets but with these huge numbers down South, there could be a drop there especially in Nizam/Andhra. So it remains to be seen how it plays out on day two as far as the all India number goes. The growth is crucial in Hindi circuits as to do the big numbers, the ratio has to go to 60% or more in the long run while on day one it is looking around 50%. 

The top five openings for Hollywood in India are as follows. These are the only five films to open above the 20 crore nett mark and its dominated by Marvel with AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER being the only film in the list outside the Marvel brand.
