THE KERALA STORY 2: GOES BEYOND GETS A LATE FRIDAY RELEASE AND STAYS AFLOAT
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is having a good run at the box office. Last Thursday, the possibility of it releasing on February 27, as scheduled, was 50-50. Thankfully, the issues got cleared by Friday afternoon. The theatres were on standby and the content was delivered to them. As soon as they got the go-ahead, they released the film. Shows began on Friday from 6:00 pm onwards. It took a while for the word to spread and hence, on day 1, it was able to collect just Rs. 60 lakhs.
On Saturday, which was its first full-fledged day, the film earned Rs. 4.25 crores. The earnings dropped to Rs. 4.15 crores, possibly due to the match. The next three days, it got the benefit of Holi. While it collected Rs. 2 crores on Monday, it earned Rs. 3.25 crores on Tuesday, while on Wednesday, the collections were Rs. 2.75 crores. Thus, in six days, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond collected Rs. 17 crores.
On Thursday, its collections are expected to be Rs. 1.75 or 2 crores. This way, the film’s first week earnings will be around Rs. 19 crores. It faces no competition for the next two weeks and will remain in cinemas until the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge on March 19.
The first part, The Kerala Story, collected a huge Rs. 220.84 crores and the second installment might struggle to even reach the Rs. 30 crore mark. It now remains to be seen how it fares in the next few days. The collections will again be affected on Sunday due to the final T20 match. Nevertheless, it's made at limited costs and would be an average fare at best for the makers and not a flop.
