(Crisp) Movie Review: SUBEDAAR by FENIL SETA

Subedaar, which has released today on Amazon Prime Video, attempts to show Anil Kapoor in an action avatar after a long time. The film begins on an intriguing note and the first half passes with very few complaints. The way the protagonist bashes up the goon is clapworthy. The dusty small-town feel comes alive authentically as well. However, the film goes downhill and how, in the second half. Things happen at random, the villains are reduced to being losers and the script is riddled with loopholes. The finale doesn't give any high. The side track of the heroine seems forced and the way it's integrated into the main plot is not convincing at all. Anil Kapoor is needlessly uptight in some scenes, but overall, he's too good. Radhikka Madan and Mona Singh also do well but are let down by the writing. Aditya Rawal is terrific as the villain; an actor to watch out for. Saurabh Shukla and Faisal Malik (Softy) leave a huge mark. Kushboo Sundar is decent. All in all, Subedaar is a disappointment.
