If trade buzz is to be believed, OMG is set to expand its universe with a third instalment — and this time, with a divine feminine twist. Sources tell us that the upcoming film is tentatively titled Oh My Goddess and will mark the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji. While neither the makers nor the actors have officially confirmed the development, insiders indicate that Rani is likely to play a Goddess in the film.

Interestingly, Akshay — who was a part of the earlier OMG films — is said to have a cameo appearance in the threequel. “The movie will have a goddess this time and change the narrative. The movie will be something absolutely different from the previous two. Akshay has a cameo and will mostly only shoot for a day or two,” a source adds.

The movie is expected to go on floors in April, with pre-production currently underway. The OMG franchise has previously explored faith, belief systems and religious institutions through satire and social commentary, and the new instalment is said to continue in a similar space, albeit from a refreshed perspective. Furthermore, the threequel will also have a new set of producers backing it, while Amit Rai, the director of the sequel, will return as the director. He remained unavailable for a comment. The prospect of Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji sharing screen space — even briefly — has already sparked curiosity within the industry.

The sequel of OMG featured Pankaj Tripathi as one of the leads.
