Primate tells the tale of an ape who suddenly goes on a killing spree and attacks the family that adopted him and also their friends. It is just 90 minutes long and once the attacks begin, the film goes on another level. The goings-on are nail-biting. In horror films, it’s common to hear viewers gasp, sometimes loudly, at sudden shocks. That hadn’t happened in a long time for me, and experiencing it with this film, that too in a full-house show, added to the fun and madness. On the flipside, the first 10-15 minutes are just okay. Also, a few action scenes are very gory. Though it is required, the action team has also needlessly pushed the envelope in a few scenes, maybe because such content is in trend. Johnny Sequoyah (Lucy) plays the lead role with panache. Jessica Alexander (Hannah) leaves a mark due to her characterization and performance. Victoria Wyant (Kate), Gia Hunter (Erin) and Benjamin Cheng (Nick) are decent. Troy Kotsur (Adam), who’s a deaf person in real life, is quite good. All in all, Primate is worth watching, especially in a packed hall in cinemas. Please note: The trailer has given away a lot of important scenes. Please watch only 1 minute of the trailer, or don’t watch it at all.
