The recent Hindi films outside EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT have find it tough going but regional films have managed to score. The Gujarati film LAALO - KRISHNA SADA SAHAAYATE is the biggest Gujarati BLOCKBUSTER ever and that's not all. It will easily be the biggest film in Gujarat this year and up there among the top films in Gujarat of all time.

The film collected 53 lakhs nett in week one, 35 lakhs nett in week two, 58 lakhs nett in week three, 11 crore nett in week four and this week will go over 20 crore nett settling in the 22 crore nett range. This gives the film an unbelievable 34.50 crore nett in five weeks. It is sure to be among the top four films in Gujarat of all time. PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE stands at 100 crore nett and BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and GADAR 2 stand at 65 crore apprx. If this film matches or improves its week five numbers in week six, it could do the unthinkable and challenge PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE in the state.

The Punjabi film industry has also seen a HIT film in IKK KUDI. It is the first HIT film this year and its come with super strong word of mouth. The film opened with only 9 lakhs nett in India but picked up for a first week total of 1.60 crore nett and second week looks to be heading for over 2 crore nett. There's no doubt that week three is going to hold strong as well.

The overseas market also saw a similar trajectory as day one was only $20k but after two weeks, the film will be standing at around $900k and still going strong. The film will have 12.50 crore worldwide after two weeks and eventually its turned out a good result for the 5 crore budget film.

These films have worked totally on content as can be seen by the trajectory and they connect with their respective audiences. The regional industry thinks local while the Hindi film industry have a problem as it does not think local but English. Until this does not change, the recovery will be tough unless that pre pandemic metro crowd comes back to theatres in numbers.

The films today need to be made for the Hindi belts but that skill set is not there at present as the crowd is very English be it directors or writers and actors. Basically regional makers think in their own languages and the Hindi film industry generally thinks in English and this will have to change for a better future.
