Haq is inspired by the landmark Shah Bano case. Though many may have heard about the case, they might not know the nitty-gritties of it. Haq does the needful and in doing so, it serves as an eye-opener. The first half is shorter and very impactful. The film loses steam in the beginning of the second half. This is also where it gets episodic. Thankfully, it picks up well in the last 20 minutes. The dialogues are another highlight; several of them are clapworthy. Yami Gautam is on a roll. After Article 370 and Dhoom Dhaam, here's yet another award-worthy performance from the talented performer. Easily her most accomplished act to date. Emraan Hashmi is the negative lead and yet, he doesn't play the role like a typical villain. This enhances the impact of his performance. Vartika Singh (Saira) is a great find. Danish Husain (Shazia's father), Sheeba Chadha (Bela Jain) and Aseem Hattangady (Faraaz Ansari) leave a huge mark. Others who do well are Aparna Ghoshal (Rukhsat; Abbas's mother), Rahul Mittra (R N Tripathi; sessions court judge), Vijay Vikram Singh (High court judge), Anang Desai (Supreme Court Chief Justice H N Vashist) and Danish Iqbal (Liaqat; rude neighbour). All in all, Haq is worth watching.
