THAMMA has scored well on its first day as it collects around 22.50 crore nett with excellent collections in Delhi/UP which is easily the outperforming area. The NCR area was always going to do well but UP has managed fantastic numbers also especially the bigger centres like Lucknow and Kanpur. The lesser numbers are in Maharashtra but that can be down to how Diwali has played out and collections could hold better there today.
The film has come out with good collections but a lot of this is driven by the big national holiday and if we take this out, then the fair value numbers would not look so good. Last year, BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3, which was a similar genre film, collected 33 crore nett and that was with a clash against a huge film like SINGHAM AGAIN. Here, THAMMA is the dominating film as the competition is a small film like EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT but then you get into this franchise thing.
BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 in its name screams out franchise of a hugely appreciated BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2 while here THAMMA is connected to films like STREE and MUNJYA. But it has a different name though it is said to be part of that world. The fact that its from this world and on top, a Diwali release is where the expectations arise but some of the audience may well be just seeing it as another film.
Eventually like KANTARA: A LEGEND – CHAPTER 1 released a couple of weeks back, the hype is not quite there for the film; Otherwise, it would have got a higher number especially on this day but take this universe hype and all that out then this is a solid number and the film can do very well from here if it has the merits. The holiday period will last seven days as even Monday will be a holiday in parts. So, it should rack up strong numbers till date.
Mumbai is the key circuit on Diwali and that should do better over the next few days though the film itself seems for the multiplexes in the northern belt. For this reason, Diwali release really helps as it would not put up the collections in this circuit outside Diwali.
