EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT has scored an excellent first day with collections in the 9.50 crore nett range which is in the same range as a bigger film like SUNNY SANSKARI KI TULSI KUMARI and better than many bigger star cast films this year. This film could have got an even higher number but the bigger film THAMMA was dominating screens space with it getting three times the shows of EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT. The occupancy of EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT was generally better than THAMMA due to the lesser showcasing.
This initial of the film has done the job and is sure to succeed as long there is no surprises and big falls which should not happen because of the period. The film could even emerge a surprise HIT if the collections hold up well enough. The film is a little lower in Maharashtra and South but the rest of the country has seen excellent collections. A circuit like East Punjab has hit 90 lakhs which is outstanding for a film like this. The eastern side is also excellent with Bihar going to 40 lakhs and West Bengal will probably finish at 50 lakhs.
Delhi/UP is 2.50 crore and this could have been even better if it had got more single screens as it could have collected better than THAMMA in these or worst case at least the same. The fair value collections of the film without Diwali would be around 5-5.50 crore nett for this film. Even those collections would have been good.
The Diwali release has insured success for the film even though its a clash with a bigger film. EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT has again shown the importance of music which has got a strong initial to almost insure a winner itself on day one.
